TheEntireMac
Hey gents, I was just wondering if the GW brushes are worth the money or is there a better brand i need to keep an eye out for. Any advice/links would be helpful, thanks Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/250488-brushes/ Share on other sites

Jacinda
Stop by your local Hobby Lobby type store and get Winsor & Newton, Loew-Cornell or even Master Touch brushes. They will have a larger variety of better quality brushes at about the same cost. I use long script liners from Loew-Cornell and love them. L♥ve them! Tanhausen
Da Vinci is a great brand. They go for 1-2 Euro in my area...and they are solid brushes :) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/250488-brushes/#findComment-3037082 Share on other sites
Brother Richard
I have found Loew-Cornell and Master Touch to be well worth the extra cost. Not really pleased with the durability of the GW stock. A few of my brushes I have had for several years. The other word of advice is to have several of each size.. rusty1109
A vote for Windsor Newton from me, love them! Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/250488-brushes/#findComment-3037414 Share on other sites
WingsOfTheFalcon
I'd advocate anything but GW brushes, the last three I've bought (Detail, Fine Detail, Detail) have all split and forked within a week or so of use. I now will only buy Windsor & Newton or other brushes from art stores. TheEntireMac
What about the Eavy Metal brushes from GW? Or are they just normal GW brushes with Eavy Metal slapped on the side to up the price? Aqui
What about the Eavy Metal brushes from GW? Or are they just normal GW brushes with Eavy Metal slapped on the side to up the price? I never knew there was such a thing? :D I've recently bought a few Humbrol brushes myself as the Hobby craft store near me didn't have any decent stock of Winsor and Newton ;) (the few that were left had split/bent bristles, and the only other brushes they had were artificial ones than Sable hair that I prefer to use....) Mind you, it was Easter Half term and I suppose they hadn't had time to restock. I haven't used them yet, but if they're any good, I'll post here how I found them. When I last did any serious amount of painting I used to use 0, 00, 000 and 1 size brushes. When I get paid at the end of the month, I might have to have a look at their (Winsor and Newton) site and cost up how much to get them sent directly from them (I might put in a bulk buy if it's cost effective enough). If there are any better brushes than them, I'd like to know as I'm more than prepared to pay a little more for a decent brush B) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/250488-brushes/#findComment-3041068 Share on other sites
MajorKhaos
What about the Eavy Metal brushes from GW? Or are they just normal GW brushes with Eavy Metal slapped on the side to up the price? I thought they were just expensive rebranded W&N S7's ? Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/250488-brushes/#findComment-3041107 Share on other sites

MajorKhaos
Series 7, I'm sure will get the vote of many. Here's a pic of a Citadel Standard brush against a W&N Series 7, DaVinci Maestro Series 10 and a Raphael 8402/4 for comparisons. MajorKhaos
You can buy four W&N S7 brushes for the price of that (sizes 2,1,0, and 000) ~ $40. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/250488-brushes/#findComment-3041823 Share on other sites

TheEntireMac
Ok cool, is it better to buy of the W&N Website or try to find a local hobby store that carries them? Does anyone know the wait time for mailing? Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/250488-brushes/#findComment-3042636 Share on other sites
