bl.php?text=Introduction&fontsize=25&bg=990000

Bolts blasted into the vile defenders; they fell back in disarray unable to withstand the mighty onslaught of the Emperor’s finest. Behold them, resplendent in their glory as they surge forward, ready to bring the light and truth of the Imperium to those foolish to withstand it. Master Malachi the Just, protégé of the Grandmaster leads the attack, determined to exact vengeance for all his slain brethren, onwards he urges, forward in the name of the Emperor, the Lion and Caliban, onwards, into the crucible of war, forwards, forwards, forwards unto victory!

Who can withstand these mighty warriors, these Knights clad in armour of Black and Red, the mighty Astartes of the Emperor, his Angels of Death. Their foes fall back, defeated and slain, all for the pride of their leaders, the foolishness of those who would use them to withstand the might and truth of the Imperium.

See now, Malachi, raising high the banner of the Imperium, the Aquila rising high above the shattered ruins of the defences that once defied the will of the Emperor. Now Serennis has been brought into the fold, now they will serve the Emperor and humanity once more.

- Extract from the Chronicle of Remembrancer Wulfnorth Godwinson, c.M30

The XVIII Chapter of the I Legion, the Dark Angels, was formed upon the hallowed soil of Terra herself upon the order of the Emperor. Formed under the auspice of Chapter-Master Eliphas, a native of the region of Hellene the Chapter soon rose to become one of the foremost Chapters in the Legion. Eliphas was known for his tactical acumen and his vindication in the Emperor’s holy Crusade and, as such, his Chapter saw more action separated from the Legion proper, some have rumoured that this was also due to a split between Chapter-Master Eliphas and Chapter-Master Astelan of the I Chapter.

When the Legion was reunited with the Lion on that most glorious day upon Caliban, so it was that the Chapter was not present. It was on the blood soaked fields of Callix V that the Order would suffer their highest number of casualties yet. Almost the entire chapter perished against the Techno Empire of Callix, yet they refused to be denied and finally destroyed the Empire, assimilating what was left into the Imperium. Arriving at Caliban they were greeted personally by Lion el’Jonson, whereupon he declared Eliphas to be the Grandmaster of the XVIII Chapter and presented him with a new Chapter of Calibanite Marines to train, guide and lead into the stars. In amongst these Marines were two warriors, brothers in arms, natural leaders and firm friends. These were Malachi and Raul who would go on to be two of the mightiest Calibanites to serve in the XXVIII Chapter. But we shall cover more on these in another entry. It was from Caliban, then, that the newly re-formed Chapter would embark on the next stage of the Great Crusade along the side of their Primarch, father and liege-lord, fighting every step of the way in the name of the Emperor.

- Extract from the prologue of The History of the Angels of Caliban written by Grand-Master Elijah, c.142 M32

The History of the Angels of Caliban stretches a long way back into the past of the Imperium, all the way to the start of the Imperium itself. My Chronicle will attempt to delve into this mist of history and bring to the fore the secrets of this Chapter when it was only known as the XVIII Chapter of the I Legion. To the time of such heroes as Grand-Master Malachi, Brother-Sergeant Kade, Master Bohemond and Grand-Master Eliphas. In order to do this, I have sought far and wide for the Chronicles and vid-picts taken by Wulfnorth Godwinson, my ancestor, who was the remembrancer attached to them. I do this work by the order of Grand-Master Bohemond III of the Chapter.

So I can tell that you have read some of the current Horus Heresy books.

So is your intent to push out Bolter Porn.

Or are you able to develop the personality dynamics of your named characters, and DIY Chapter???

All Unforgiven are in want of information of their brethren. We are scattered among the stars, tell us of your accomplishments and how the Dark Angels can

celebrate your DIY Chapters existence...

We want to know the strength and weaknesses. What were the moments of decision. Who were those deserving mention on the wall? And who failed the the battles???

We don't want much, are you able to give?

This is actually going to be a log of my pre-heresy army that I am building (based on the Tempus Fugitives document) but, instead of just building an army and showing it off, I wanted to do something a little more ambitious.

I intend to develop the background of each Astartes in the army, and some that will be modeled but not be in the army (Eliphas is one), as well as giving some extracts of stories about the XVIII Chapter fighting in the Great Crusade and Horus Heresy itself, not enough to warrant being a 'short' story.

For info on the chapter in the 41st Millenium, then follow the link to the WIP IA that is in my siggy (IA: Angels of Caliban). This is, purely, about it in the HH/GC era. And yes, I have read 'some' of the HH books B)

You will probably only hear, at least from the rembrancers POV, of the success of the Imperial forces, but there may be some references to major defeats in there, and quotes from Xenos/human forces they encounter.

Like I said, its an ambitious work. it will have plenty of models (around 30) and some armour, with fluff for each one thrown in. Then, once that is done, I may continue with it further.

I like, Brother-Sergeant Bohemond! ^_^

A couple of things I noted:

Arriving at Caliban they were greeted personally by Lion el’Jonson, whereupon he declared him to be the Grandmaster of the XVIII Chapter and presented him with a new Chapter of Calibanite Marines to train, guide and lead into the stars.

Too many pronouns and they don't all agree: "they were greeted", then "declared him" - I'm assuming that the him is Eliphas, but you may want to say this specifically instead of "him," because that particular paragraph doesn't actually address Eliphas in any other way than this line.

mightiest Calibanites to serve in the XXVIII Legion

I'm assuming this should be the XVIII Chapter, not the "XXVIII Legion"

Other than that, I think it is very cool that your army log will take this form, and I am looking forward to the pre-Heresy Dark Angels goodies! Awesome idea!

yes, you are correct, lol, they are not the Salamanders ^_^

and thanks! Ive started work on the first 5 marines, though I also have 5 more bikers to build and paint, as well as 2 essays for my courses, lol. Hopefully the first Astartes will be up by the end of the week, if not, then probably early next week.

  • 10 months later...

Sooo this has been on the back burner for months...

Mainly because I have been lazy, also because I cannot afford HH goodies meaning that impulse for this project has stalled currently. However, recently, I decided I needed a long term project to work on and I unearthed various battle-brothers I had already made and painted as Astartes of the Legion.

So, to kickstart me working on this, I have this little extract about Brother Thaddeus, who I shall post picture of when I get to a camera and get home.

-------------------------------------------

She ran through the war-torn streets weaving past lumps of rubble and wrecked cars. She ran as one filled with terror, fearful of what came behind, as she ran she sobbed as she remembered what had happened. She caught her foot in something, it twisted and she fell with pain shooting up through her leg that was so intense that it made her moan. Struggling up she fell back again, ‘damn it,’ she thought, ‘broken’. Biting her lip to hold back more moans of pain she heard the crunch of ceramite on rubble.

Entering her vision with slow, deliberate steps came a grinning skull atop a giant of a man clad in midnight blue armour.

“Hush, child” he said as he reached for her with one armoured hand, “the more you struggle, the longer this will last.”

Despite her terror she spat at him, filled with defiance and hate. Chuckling the Midnight-warrior dragged her out across the rubble relishing as he saw the broken ankle and her blood that dripped from her cuts and scrapes. Seizing her by her hair he hauled her up ignoring her gasps of pain, in his right hand he held a long, wicked looking knife.

She gritted her teeth knowing what was coming next; fear clouded her mind as she remembered what this giant’s brothers had done to her mother, her father, her brothers and sisters. She remembered their screams, their pain, and she knew it would be shared by her.

As she waited the warrior suddenly grunted and stumbled, dropping her and spinning round with surprising acrobatic grace for someone of his bulk. But he was not fast enough she watched in fascination as his head exploded from a bolt of brilliant blue-white plasma. As she watched a Black-clad figure knelt next to her and removed his helmet.

“I am Brother Thaddeus of the Dark Angels Legion” said the brown haired noble face that smiled down at her, “I am your salvation” he told her as he scooped her up. As she lay in his arms she passed out.

Brother Thaddeus, c.M30 Antharax Campaign

http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8100/8560052999_633b970c80_z.jpg

A rather obscure pict-capture of Brother Thaddeus of the 1st 'Tactical' Squad, 3rd Company, XVIII Order, I Legion. Thaddeus was a member of this squad for roughlly seventy years, throughout the latter Crusade Era and the entire Horus Heresy before moving to the First Company in 0.023 M31 where he would remain until his death.

His list of battle honours stretches throughout the years of the Great Crusade, the Heresy and the Scouring.

Known Awards:

Shield of Caliban: Awarded for courage and bravery under fire during the Antharax Campaign.

Imperial Laurel: Granted to Brother Thaddeus for his actions during the Thramas Crusade upon Cyg IV where he protected his brothers and civilians from further abuse by Night Lords and in the process lost his right arm. This award is not shown in this pict-capture.

Notable Campaigns:

Subjugation of Sarosh (M.30)

Fall of Vauxhalt (0.957 M.30)

Antharax Campaign (0.976 M.30)

Demarsos V (0.977 M.30)

The Kylen Crusade (0.988-0.993 M.30)

Thramas Crusade (0.005 - 0.008 M.31)

Storming of Dedares IX (0.31 M.31)

 - Gwalchavad Godwinson, Chapter XXVII 'Heroes of the XVIII', Paragraph 423 'Brother Thaddeus'

Brother Thaddeus was one of the most pleasant Astartes one could get a chance to talk to throughout the Crusade years and especially after the start of the Heresy when most Astartes became wary to speak to a remembrancer. Probably one of the more conscientiousness Dark Angels, Thaddeus was one for whom service to the Imperium, especially the people, transcended their role as mere Warriors. During the Thramas Crusade Thaddeus grew especially angry with Night Lord atrocities and would often be seen at the forefront of the fray striving to save innocent civilian lives, or, if he could not, to exact vengeance. In this way he lost his right arm in the closing months of the Thramas Crusade while struggling to hold of the Night Lords from slaughtering any more civilians and in order to protect his brothers, Bezek and Ryloth. For this action he was awarded the Imperial Laurel.
