Pre-heresy Ultrasmurfs

Recommended Posts

Well I've tried the whole WiP before and it failed horribly; mainly to a short attention span but I'll try again.

Always fancied doing an Ultrasmurf army but was never sure about it as i have masses of unfinished Salamanders sitting in boxes but I though :) it; why not.

Its also a perfect excuse to get some of the tastey bits Forge World have been so kind as to produce recently.

I originally wanted to be really strict with Aquillas and other symbolism but I'd already assembled the first 5 marines before i realized that there is an aquilla on the belt buckles so that's that.

onto the pictures, I've got the first 5 men of my tactical squad assembled and the other 5 are on order ATM;

Excuse the shoddy pictures, only have my crappy phone camera to take them.

As far as colours I did a test 3/4 of a marine after buying some of the new paints and I was plesently surprised

I'm also trying to decide whether to add some kinda of paint chipping/minor battle damage. Should hopefully get some paint on the new recruits in the next couple of days.

C&C much appreciated

That's a really nice blue you have there. Keep going fella, also on one of the marines holding a combat knife the blade looks very out of line from the actual handle of the blade and the marines hand direction, but that's all.

Thanks for the replies, and regarding the sergeant he was only going to be a test model to see how the new paints pulled off blue and white.

But after seeing the love I may have to find him a set of MK IV legs. the aquilla's I can live with, they seem to be on all the bits FW produce recently.

Actually did some painting today, not a lot but its a start. Got the blue to a standard i'm pleased with then made a start on a few of the details.

Still early days but I'm happy to of actually made a start rather than them just sitting on my desk for 6 months slowly being buried by other mini's.

C&C appreciated

Thanks for the feedback guys, I was hoping to get some more done today and then my mate showed up with Rock Band 3.... bye bye day.

@interkino- Yea, used the new ultramarines painting guide/chart colours except from the drybrush; just couldn't get on with it. I recommend the new paints, seem to make everything that little bit easier. I'm holding out on KNF for a rainy day, so when I start to get a bit fed up or sidetracked I'm sure reading it will draw me back into the Ultra's.

Should hopefully get a bit done tomorrow

think, just today I purchased my first color of new range for my BA (layer wild rider red) and for once I had a positive feedback from GW, it's really a good product.

In short,I think as you :)

Ah ah ah...good thinking about KNF... :) a "rain therapy"

Just realised I've forgotten to highlight the black on the bolter, but does the black look alright or should i go for the classic Ultramarine red weapons?

I also started on the second marine, not a lot just basecoated and washed the blue. The wash wasnt completely dry when I took the picture

C&C appreciated as always

stuff looks good, that test model really pops B)

maybe try the red bolters...they always look good in a deep rich red,(although i will understand if keep the *cough* easy black :P ) the older armor is always fun to work on.

one thing though...clean under those nails :)

Progressing well. Liking the gold trim as well. As for the bolter, I'd stick with the artwork from the Heresy. In the Know no Fear artwork, they have blue bolters. But that might be too much blue now that I think about it.

Red is always a favourite as is black. Try it on a test bolter and see what looks better?
