Battlerep - 1000points against TAU

Well, my opponent turned up with TAU :)

 

2x Devilfish

2x Hammerheads

3x Crisis Suits (2 with plasma rifles, 1 with Missile Pod, all with burst cannons)

2x 12man Fire

Lots of gundrones.

We rolled for Spearhead, objectives (5). He rolled for cover (2D6), rolling 6. We placed 3 each, I put a bastion on the left hand side, a ruin on the right, and another ruin near the back. I placed one of my objectives in the back ruin, and another 8" from the ruin on the right. He placed 2 objectives near the back of the board, and one in the middle in small wood (cover). My 3 servoskulls are dotted around for max DS potential.

 

TAU picked the high corner, and loaded it with 2 Hammerheads and a Devilfish. Just infront were Fire Warriors contesting one objective. RIght on the edge of this deployment line he placed the 3 crisis guys, and a devilfish with the other 12man squad in.

 

I deployed Coteaz and the DCA squad in the Chimera, the purg squad in LOF of 2 crisis and a devilfish, supported by the Psyriflemen. I held the 10man SS in reserve. The psykers and acolytes sat 8" away from the righthand objective. in a nice bit of 4+ cover.

 

TAU went first.

 

Turn 1

TAU - Targeted my dread, shaking it, and took 2 men out of the Purg squad. My chimera took some shots, and lost the turret heavy bolter.

GN/INQ - Moved the Chimera 12", behind a large building. Fortitude bought the dread back, fired all ACs into the devilfish with his 12man squad, wrecking it. 12man

squad popped out, and took everything the Purg squad could give them, only losing 4 men (spectacular cover saves from the wrecked devilfish). Psykers scattered 1",

hitting 3 of the 12man firewarrior squad, all dead.

 

Turn 2

TAU - Almost no movement, Crisis suits advancing through the wood in the middle to hold the centre objective. Firing removed a further 2 models from the Purg squad,

taking me down to 3 psycannons left. LD passed OK. Dread took some concentrated fire, and poor rolls from him meant everything failled to pen. Single glance rolled

a 2, so did nothing.

GK/INQ - rolled a 6 for reserves, SS DS with 2" scatter (thankyou servoskulls). Moved the chimera 12", up behind the bastion on the right. Dread advanced to get a

better look at the side armour of the Hammerheads. Purg squad sat still. Shooting involved the dread getting weapon destroyed on one of the hammerheads, the remaining purg squad members dropping one crisis suit. Psykers scattered again, hitting 2 firewarriors and a glance on the devilfish. Missed the warriors, immobilised the devilfish. Ran the SS (4") toward his objective and the immobilised devilfish near it.

 

Turn 3

TAU - Again, very little movement. Gundrones from wrecked devilfish moved through cover to within 8" of my psykers. 2 remaining Crisis found hard cover. Hammerhead moved to get cover from the dread. He dropped a template on the 10man SS, killing 2. Purg squad was getting serious heat, saved all but one, leaving 2 remaining guys. Chimera got immobilised.

GK/INQ - SS headed towards immobilised Devilfish. Dread moved slightly for better LOF. Psykers broke cover and moved within 3" of nearby objective. DCAs and Coteaz jumped out of the Chimera. Dread destoyed the main weapon on immobilised Hammerhead. Purg squad cleaned another Crisis. Psykers missed completely. SS engaged the immobilised Devilfish, lost 2 to the stupid armour they have. Hammerhands enabled, Justicar with MC NDH auto penned 3 times, wrecked it. DCAs ran for the middle objective.

 

Quick look round the table showed me holding 1 objective, within 8" of 2 others. TAU holding 2.

 

Turn 4

TAU - reshuffle of what he had left, gaining cover for firewarriors from wrecked vehicles. Hammerhead moved towards centre objective. SS dropped to 4men, failed LD and started running. Psykers took 4 wounds, Dread shaken again. Last crisis suit assaulted the purg, losing.

GK/INQ - DCAs moved to hold centre objective, Dread shook off his woes, moved towards TAU back objective. Dread removed the other large weapon from the hammerhead, purg squad finished off the remaining firewarriors on that side. Psykers had no target. SS still running (damned gundrone chasing them)

 

Turn 5

TAU - moved the remaining devilfish to contest the centre obective, but exposed its rear to my 2 remaing purg pyscannons... Gundrones made a dash for my 2 objectives. Shooting did nothing

GK/INQ - No movement. Guess what, 8 psycannon shots from Purg squad, 7 hits, 3 pens, 2 glancing = BOOM. Psykers and Acolytes killed the gundrone on there objective, SB from Chimera killed the other one that was forcing my SS off the board and holding the other objective. Coteaz rolled a 4 and killed 4 firewarriors with his iron pigeon.

 

TAU player rolled a 6 to carry on, looked around and conceeded he didn't have a prayer. GK win.

 

Interesting chat after when we realised the dread and purg squad pretty much did 80% of the damage. He wasn't expecting me to be putting 16 S7 shots and 4 S8 shots out, and thought his 2 AV12 hammerheads would be fairly safe, not expecting that much AV at 1000pints from a Greyknight army. He also expected me to charge him a bit more. Aside from 2 or 3 appaling dice rolls from him, dice didn't play a huge part in the game.
