new Imperial Primer vs conventional spray primer

So I bought the new brush-on Imperial Primer from GW and applied it to a bolter bit and noticed it has a more matte finish to it than say Chaos Black. Do you guys think it would be wise to start using this primer or stick with the spray primers (I use black duplicolor sandable). I did the scratch test days after I applied the imperial primer and it held up pretty well.

I use a brush-on primer "mix" I learned from a painter years ago. I mix black craft paint (Delta Ceramcoat) in a 1:1 ratio with Folk Art Glass and Tile Medium, then thin with water as needed. It's essentially making brush-on primer for a fraction of the price of Reaper or GW's brush-ons.

I can also airbrush the mix when I want to.

I have used spray cans in the past, and was never happy with the result. Too much on one section of a model, too little on the other. Too thick of a spray obliterates details (the brush-on stuff I use shrinks to the detial, kind of like Gesso).

I do use spray primers for terrain, because it's harder to screw that up, and less important to retain fine detail. Some brands of primer are a little slick, though.

Generally speaking, the less slick a primer is, the less "tooth" it has. More tooth means it holds paint better.
