Red Dragons

I've played around with the idea of playing loyalist many times but I think I might just give this a go for once. After reading more and more about the Salamanders I'd really like to play a list like them but make my own this time. I'm thinking kind and protecting of mortals (like their proginators) but instead of dark skinned more pale? Maybe a bit like the Black Dragons. May do a test model tonight and if that turns out well some fluff later. An actual IA article for me will probably take a-lot longer though. I'd like some advice on a paint scheme though. I'd like to do it red but I'm not sure about secondary colors. Gold or black seem to make the most promising candidates but gold seems too much like a BA successor. Any advice?

Arise! My long dead thread!

Hey guys, so I'm finally going loyalist this weekend. Starting with this DIY chapter I thought up forever ago. So right now I'm trying to think of what I should work on first. I usually try to design a list that I can work towards painting and modeling. Might get some scouts first but wanted to get some feedback from you folks. I'd like them to be a mid to close range shooty/assault army. Do you think it'd be possible with the current C:SM? I'd also like to use either a Kantor, Lysander or Vulkan counts as for the HQ, if that helps at all. ;)

While I can't speak a word as to what's viable 'competitively' I think you're on the right track. I'd start with some scouts and maybe devastators too. It'll be nice to see these guys in color.

I'd suggest that you go to the Tactica Astartes section of the forum for any game-centered questions rather than asking them here. I have nothing against tactical discussion, but the Liber is for developping the fluff of your Chapter, not its army list :D

Yes, of course Ludovic is right. Now if you were to wonder as to the fluff foundation of your Chapter's combat doctrine and what they might use to be close to mid-range combined arms specialists, then I might suggest that they make use of scouts and devastators as fire support to help those units that are slower than the scouts but faster than the devs have some more maneuverability. ;)

But truly, if you want to start with the list building, the Tactica Forums will be far better equipped to help you out than we.

Thanks Ludo and Messor, guess I assumed it was like Chaos Ascendant because we discussed everything there. I would like to get a basis for their fluff figured out though so I'll know what I want to include in my lists. What about.....heavy use of plasma and melta? So it'd pay homage to their heritage but also somewhat different while also allowing for mid-range armsfire.

I like the close combat mid-close range bit but I don't want to be just Salamanders in red/green. Any suggestions for how to fluffily make them different? Additionally, do you think using the Salamander symbol but with different colors would be alright or too similar? The lizard head is draconic enough I think.

We should make a specific thread for dragon-themed chapters to share inspiration. =)

Now that would be nice to see happen.

OT: might also look cool to do all dark green with red helm, and power pack.

I just happen to know of a blog about this topic... check the sig below to a wonderful place of dragon related chapters.

I think I'm going to go with Ecritter's scheme. What setup would you suggest for the dev heavy weapon?

Ah, another dragon amongst us :D As to your question, well, to me, dragon theme says it all. Multi-Meltas and Plasma Cannons as much as you can afford. Style before purpose ;)

Now if only the blogs would work :D You need to remind me about that once full board functionality is achieved again ;)
