Fitting fuselage onto FW Chaos flyers

Recommended Posts

A question to fellow Chaos invaders. I have a pair of Hell Blades and a Hell Talon, and upper part of the fuselage goes as separate piece. And while Hell Blade is quite small and that gap is not that critical, Hell Talon is actually quite big and that gap is clearly visible, plus border of upper part of a fuselage is a bit dented. Do you fill that gap at all, and if yes - what filler are you using? I've tried both liquid GS and normal GS, no luck. I am not really sure if I should try Filla-Glu Wiking Powda, because if it will not work either - I will not be able to remove it afterwards. If you're using GS/liquid GS to fill it - please share your experience.

Without some pictures, it's a little tricky to see just what the issue is. But I think I can visualize the issue.

That said, you may be able to heat the part and bend/warp it back into place if the piece is thin enough. People have had luck with directing a hair-dryer where you want softening. To take it to the next level you can dip the part in boiling water.

After it's warmed you should be able to gently press/bend deformities back into place. Once cooled it will keep the new shape.

If you're forced to use gap filler of some sort, you have a few options. The surface of a cast resin piece can be very slick, and might even have mould release still on it. Either could prevent greenstuff from sticking. Try a wash followed by a light buffing with very fine sandpaper to give the surface a bit more texture for the greenstuff to stick to. If that won't do it, you can even go as far as drilling a small hole where you want the greenstuff patch to be. That will give the greenstuff an actual hole to fill and hold onto.

Also, remember to keep your tools very slick with water/spit/oil, and you can even add it to the surface of the greenstuff as you work to ensure it wants to stick to the model, and not pull off with your tools.

Hope that's some help.

Without seeing it it's hard to give you exact direction on how to proceed like Subtle Discord already pointed out.

If you find things are still a bit out of wack after atempting to correct the "dents" with a bit of heat and bending there is a product called Squadron Putty that scale modelers use that is desinged for filling in gaps and such.

If you can put up some pictures and I'm sure you'll get the answers you need.
