The Shadow Guard
Well, in the wake of the LPC 2012 victory, it appears to me that we do have a large number of capable painters in this forum as we can all see from the continuing threads. There are some absolutely phenomenal painters and modellers too. While it is always a joy to drool over such masterpieces, sometimes these may be quite daunting to the new comer, or even those of us with only a passing ability. I thought it might be time to show off our worst efforts, or atleast our earliest efforts,.... so I invite any of you who are brave enough to heed the call! SHOW US YOUR FIRST EVER Dark Angel Model... or your WORST PAINTED ONE! I shall start off with the 40K Second edition single plastic ten man tactical squad box set which sucked me in this this morass of a hobby! ;) Painted in December 1997 while I was in Taunton, Somerset, England. No shading, no highlights, no blending..just staright single colours. Unfortunately the missile launcher got seconded to my nephews Blood Angels army and had his armour painted red.... he's now lost to the red thirst! http://www.fortressoftheunforgiven.com/First_DA_Squad.jpg Below is one of my first characters and my very first and extremely proud conversion. Can you spot the conversion? http://www.fortressoftheunforgiven.com/First_Conversion.jpg The conversion was simmply to cut the left arm at the elbow, pin it and rotate it to avoid the straight up/down elbows the 2nd ed plastic arms had..... I was very proud!! :D SG Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/250808-everyone-starts-somewhere/ Share on other sites
elmo
Mine was a squad of termies but it was fairly recently (2 years ago) but here is the Sgt. http://i814.photobucket.com/albums/zz66/jonbrooks_photo/Dark%20Angels/IMGP3863.jpg The colours are basic with little highlighting and the inking is too heavy - the expression is of extreme constipation :D Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/250808-everyone-starts-somewhere/#findComment-3039966 Share on other sites
Aegnor
Lol, Shadow Guard. I have a stack of those 2nd Ed marines for the bulk of my Tac squads, and sadly for me, your paint job in the pics you put up are better in some way than how I'm able to paint my rank and file now. :D Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/250808-everyone-starts-somewhere/#findComment-3039970 Share on other sites
Candleshoes
My first Dark Angel painted, back when the 4th ed codex first dropped in early 2007. shabbadoo
Bah, youngn's! :P Here's something really old: circa 1987 RTB01 awesomeness, baby! ;) http://www.warseer.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=49333&d=1229422200http://www.warseer.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=49334&d=1229422200http://www.warseer.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=49335&d=1229422200http://www.warseer.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=49336&d=1229422200 Lung shot and arm shot, he's still putting down the xenos and the heretic! B) That's my first ever painted Dark Angel from back when Dark Angels really meant DARK Angels. For those non-greybeards, the right shoulder pad shows the old style sword & wings Chapter icon in red, with the oddball blue/yellow/red symbol denoting "commander", and the black/white symbol below that denoting armament "bolter". I still remember how I made the muzzle flare (tightly twist up some cotton swab material, glue it into the drilled-out barrel, saturate it with pva glue, let it dry, and paint it). Ah, yes. 20 RTB01 Marines for $20. Gotta miss that sort of value. Gillyfish
My first? Hmm, not sure I have a picture of him as I repainted some of them. It's probably a plastic RTB101 marine [rummages around]. Aha! Found a few photos! Here we go... some of these have more recent models included for comparative purposes: http://i119.photobucket.com/albums/o126/Gillyfish2010/DSCF2153.jpg http://i119.photobucket.com/albums/o126/Gillyfish2010/DSCF2072.jpg http://i119.photobucket.com/albums/o126/Gillyfish2010/DSCF2071.jpg Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/250808-everyone-starts-somewhere/#findComment-3040627 Share on other sites

Bryan Blaire
This is an awesome topic, Shadow Guard! Sadly I no longer have my old snap-together 2nd Edition Marines, they were all co-opted by brothers or given away when the new shiny plastics came along, but I present for laughter and hilarity the Bling Dark Angels! Straight colors, the only attempt at highlighting or depth is with dry brushing. Terminator squad (last guy was another assault cannon, so no longer usable in a five-man Deathwing squad - he's been busted up for parts): Veterans in robes (yes, I tried to paint them as if they'd been wading through blood or something): Couple of Assault Squad members (Ooh, look! Edgy young adult blood and gore): Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/250808-everyone-starts-somewhere/#findComment-3042525 Share on other sites
