OBEL WGBL on thunderwolf

so i got a pack of the new thunder wolves , and have been thinking of ways to use them ( I never had the models , so never paid much attention to the unit b4 )

one option that came to mind was to equip a wolf lord on one and attach him to a scout unit and have him OBEL , it would be expensive but devastating , an 18" attack range from the back of the opponents board would be a scary thing. turns out this won't work as WL can't take saga of the hunter which is what would make this whole thing work but a WGBL can take saga of the hunter which should work . my thought was to give him a plasma pistol , and a frost axe , that would give him 6 s6 attacks on the charge , break him away from the scout unit in the movement phase , so they can attack something else . The orcs can do something similar when they take snikrot , they can attach a warboss on a bike to the squad and effectively OBEL with the squad then break the warboss away as they enter the board and attack 2 units .

we could attack up to 4 WGBL on TW to a scout squad and hit up to 5 targets with one unit . it would require some finesse but would cause alot of havoc .

am i correct on this ? or am i missing something

would this work ? or just be a huge point sink ?

Saga of the Hunter states "infantry only". Taking a thunderwolf, per the entry on TWM on pg. 62, causes your model to become a 'cavalry' type unit, making them no longer considered 'infantry' and thus unable to take Saga of the Hunter. Same applies to Jump packs and Bikes.

Barring Special/Named characters, you can't have duplicates of any Saga in your army list. So you're allowed maximum one character with Saga of the Hunter.

And as mentioned, characters with a Thunderwolf mount may only join units of Fenrisian Wolves and Thunderwolf Cavalry.

The only thing that can OBEL with scouts are models in Power Armor.

Also, an IC can't detach from a unit the turn they enter play using special deployment options such as Deep Strike and Outflank.

"Q: If an Independent Character is joined to a unit that is outflanking, when can he leave the unit? (p94)

A: If an independent character is arriving from reserve together with a unit, whether it is outflanking or not, he cannot leave the unit during the turn it arrives. He can, of course, leave it as normal from the following turn." - BRB FAQ
