vonny
I figure I post it here, as the rules discussions forum is for 40k as far as I know last weekend I played a few games of space hulk (3rd edition) and finally got beyond mission 2. Had loads of fun. After that I figured I re-read the faq I read first... I think it's already some years ago. There I realized I had cheated - unjamming a weapon on overwatch can not be done the instant it jams. As one can only spend command points in reaction to an action by a genestealer seen by said marine, it can only unjam when the genestealer moves, and then fire when the genestealer moves yet again, gaining an extra square as opposed to how I used to play it. This got me to thinking on more things - as it says overwatch fire is done in reaction to an action by a genestealer seen by a marine, but the firing is done after the action is completed. Does this mean genestealers can safely traverse a hallway? I made an image to help make my point. The marine is the red blob, looking to the left. Genestealer is purple blob. Genestealer makes a move action, but is still out of LOS for the marine, so no overwatch triggered. Genestealer moves into square marked 1. Genestealer makes a move action, overwatch is triggered, genestealer moves into square marked 2, is out of LOS, and thus the overwatch fire isn't resolved. (as an aside, does this mean the marine doesn't fire, or that it just automatically misses? As this could still cost assaultcannon ammo and cause jams) And this brings me to the next question, a question that actually we were both unsure on during the game - When a marine stands on overwatch behind another marine, and that other marine gets close assaulted by a genestealer and dies - opening up vision to the genestealer - can the marine actually fire on the genestealer in reaction to the succesful close assault action? Then, one last question. I didn't re-read the rules last weekend and my brother did, and I went by my brother's judgement on this one - when one rolls double 6's for a bolter on overwatch, it jams. Does it also still kill the genestealer? Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/250927-space-hulk-queries/ Share on other sites
bystrom
The way I've played it, which was a while ago (so I can't quote rules from where I am ATM), is that 1) As you've said, you resolve the overwatch at the end of the genestealer action, therefore you can only shoot once when a genestealer enters a corridor. As the marine only shoots once, he only uses one shot for an assault cannon, gets only a kill on a 6+, cannot unjam when the genestealer moves into square 2 etc. 2) Yes, as the action is resolved 'after' the the genestealer killed the marine. 3) As you've rolled at least one 6, you've killed the genestealer, and at the same time, as you've rolled double, you've jammed. The same is true for rolling double 5's for sustained fire. I'll reiterate the fact that I can't quote any rules, so hopefully I'll get a confirmation (or someone will correct me for remembering a rule off the top of my head, after having read it over a year ago).
