Teleportman
Helo there, I've been wanting to continue my love for converting little plastic/metal figures for years but never gor around to it. Then I saw Greyall's incredible work and decided it was high time I started using all the bits I've been hoarding over the years and do what I like: converting. I really like trying to make drawings reality because sometimes the official versions fall short. I started these years ago for Hordes / Warmachine Now, since looking at Greyall's raptors I had to return to converting. My idea is to actually finish what I start and to make as many as possible. Here are a few WIP: http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7264/6947161790_4593c2d95a_b.jpg http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7206/6947170536_50929b680e_b.jpg http://farm6.staticflickr.com/5464/6947162124_3c9414c76f_b.jpg The Tzeench lord is the one that has had more work done. Some details more and he'll be going to the paint table. http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7064/6946994492_5fec356fcc_c.jpg http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7064/6947005760_9d3a6d81af_c.jpg I really like the larger than life proportions of this drawing. This is actually the second version. The first failed to get the perspective. This one is still early. http://farm6.staticflickr.com/5031/7093061119_2dfacf8c0a_c.jpg http://farm6.staticflickr.com/5470/7093084925_d970ea883d_c.jpg Now this Fallen is very early. Need to actually make the head and hood (that is just clay). I think I got the overall pose. http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7083/6946996270_4baed4d81f_c.jpg Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/251051-for-the-art-of-it/ Share on other sites
ZAChos
These look pretty sweet. Love the art, and seeing them turned into models makes me a happy being. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/251051-for-the-art-of-it/#findComment-3043238 Share on other sites
Olis
Looks like you've put quite some work in, that Tzeentch Lord looks very interesting. Just warning you, though, those two Warmachine models are against forum rules so it's best you spirit them away before a mod does. :) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/251051-for-the-art-of-it/#findComment-3043266 Share on other sites

fivepointedstar
I Lol'd so hard at seeing your quick edit job. The rules are only power armored related minitures. So eventhou they are converted the are not PA style. Your Greyall creations are perfectly fine. BTW but the Mods might get out the meltagun with the Horde/ Privateer Press mini's Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/251051-for-the-art-of-it/#findComment-3043321 Share on other sites

Lexington
Incredible. I wasn't really familiar with Greyall's work before this thread, but you do an amazing job of bringing it into the 3D realm. Andrew J
Amazing work so far. They follow the art incredibly well. Now you really need to finish those up so you can get on the other 40 or so left! hehe Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/251051-for-the-art-of-it/#findComment-3043409 Share on other sites

Teleportman
Thanks for the kind words guys :P . I plan on finishing Scciroc tomorrow. Any details I don't sculp by then I'll try to freehand. Color scheme is going to be based on this Adrian Smith drawing: http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7074/6947133544_9538f62307.jpg Started using it years ago for my TS and want to return to them too. http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7195/7091748659_5535b7f50a_z.jpg http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7275/6945679888_003fc4b806_z.jpg http://farm6.staticflickr.com/5340/7091748179_578c8a2983_z.jpg Seeing the artwork again i see that I went too blue instead of purpleish. My brother painted a sample rubric and then I think I couldn't match his. Oh well, already have a full squat like that and icy blue still looks close to normal TS scheme while not being a TS scheme. OMG, my babies! Teleportman came and took my babies...and I'm loving it. That Scciroc is so awesome, thank you, brother. A thousand times. Dude, thanks to you I finally stopped my days of "right-click-save-for-future-inspiration-and-not-do-squat". Lachdannan
Wow, this is going to be good. Great artwork inspires great modelling so I look forward to this. ephrael
Are you planning on taking commissions on these figures? I would love to own a miniature of Greyall's Ultramarine and would be interested in having you make him for me. Teleportman
Scciroc has been delayed a bit. Just some gaps I want to fill with greestuff… if the damn package with it finally arrives . Running short on brown stuff and I want to use that for details. Adrian Smith art is going to get some love too. Here is a very early WIP Horus from Smith’s famous duel piece. If anybody wondered how big an Oblitorator would be standing up, there you go (quite big... but quite dangerous to cut :D). You can also see a true scale SW based on the Crimson Fist drawing: http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8154/7104276501_69d6be8e2d_z.jpg http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7182/6958203032_71b2ce4f9d_z.jpg The SW is inspired by and not a real 3D version, but there are things that could have been better. http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7064/6958205526_37faf2560d_z.jpg http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8027/7104275377_6e694c8a9f_z.jpg http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7140/6958205204_2377e816a8_z.jpg http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7113/6958199406_b7b6658dd8_z.jpg The shoulder pads are not big enough and for some reason I made the feet big. That’s what happens when you try to sculpt from memory instead of having the picture in front :D . BTW, anybody know who is the artist? Are you planning on taking commissions on these figures? I would love to own a miniature of Greyall's Ultramarine and would be interested in having you make him for me. Well, I was not planning on making the Ultra but I guess I would be willing to take commissions if it’s worth the time it takes to make them. Greyall
The artist is Karl Kopinski, I think. Hell of a job, mate, tremendous conversions. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/251051-for-the-art-of-it/#findComment-3045616 Share on other sites
Rune Priest Ridcully
Those are really nice, especially your terminators, makes me want to start mine again from scratch as the headress have failed utterly. If you don't mind me asking, how did you do them on yours, especially the guy in the back of the group shot who has what looks like a greenstuff cast of the 2nd edition Thousand son helmet. Teleportman
@Rune Priest Ridcully: good eye there; yep, the big one uses a cloned head piece of the 2nd edition TS. That Termi sorcerer lord has been my special project… for about 4 YEARS. http://farm6.staticflickr.com/5192/7091746595_3b8d6312b4_m.jpg This is the third time I work on him. It’s been very difficult choosing how to pose him and what arms to use. First was with green stuff, two years ago was when I discovered the true scale marines (from the huge stockpile of bits I have started) and now it’s getting hit by the dynamic hammer to finish it soon. Just need to actually stick the parts and correct some details. http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7106/7108857993_b3d652b855_z.jpg http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7069/7108855203_23cd8c83e0_z.jpg http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7118/7108856087_77bdeb3879_z.jpg http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7108/6962783720_8b44b223fc_z.jpg Only thing I don’t know now is weather to at a bird in the arm or in the shoulders or have him hold books instead of having the spell hand (I quite like it from the fast bluetacked version). As for the other termis, I used Green stuff to make the head pieces. I initially was going to make them in two stages to give them the TS headdress form. Since they also looked Egyptian-y with just the first part and since I liked how they looked I just detailed them and left them be. Some of the lines are just painted while the big ones are actually cut pieces. http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8011/6961788328_77d7777e02_z.jpg http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8002/7107859605_ba3aba9b2d_z.jpg http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7104/6961780566_c6d78c3ec1_z.jpg I have pics of the WIPs, I just don’t remember where. I post them one I find them. The other lord (who will be downgraded to veteran when I finish the other ord) was made when the Grey knights came out. Din’t have the dremel back then so I cut it in half using a pocked knife… took me two days to do (good thing I did it while at work :o ) http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7252/7091750399_eabc0d952e_z.jpg http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7252/6945681484_d9714639e2_z.jpg @Greyall: Damn, I had many works of him attributed to Smith in my head! Specially those were there are no human faces. Turns out some of the pieces I remember most are Kopinski’s. Really like how he does the lower leg armor for the marines. And that Crimson Fist is just gorgeous, even if the perspective is really forced. Wish he dit more marines in those epic proportions. Greyall
I keep confusing Dainton, Boyd and Kopinski's artwork (sometimes Adrian Smith, too) every now and then, and I'm always looking at 40K art...shame on me... While I have an instinctive dislike of blue and green together, that just vanishes when I see the quality of those conversions. And it must be a lot of fun to do those.
