i think i found me a compromise that will work for wanting to play both...

the reason why i asked about the guard...they are purifiers (tee) that are really wolf guard.

would just use a unit of purifiers with swords to represent a GK unit being dispatched with the wolves. (its ghey i know and i may not be able to make it work but it sounds fun)

I would consider spittng one the larger squards in two and putting them a razorback

200 9 Grey Hunters (melta, Standard, MotW) Rhino

200 9 Grey Hunters (melta, Standard, MotW) Rhino

200 9 Grey Hunters (melta, Standard, MotW) Rhino

200 9 Grey Hunters (melta, Standard, MotW) Rhino

200 9 Grey Hunters (melta, Standard, MotW) Rhino

110 Rune Priest (Chooser of the Slain)

110 Rune Priest (Chooser of the Slain, bolter)

70 Land Speeder (multi-melta, Heavy Flamer)

70 Land Speeder (multi-melta, Heavy Flamer)

100 5 scouts (melta, Motw)

100 5 scouts (melta, Motw)

190 6 Long Fangs (5 Plasmacannons)

140 6 Long Fangs (5 Missile Launchers)

109 3 Wolf Guard (2 Powerfists, 1 Powerweapon)

that's what I'd field...

i know people here swear by the standard, but thats 10 points to me that is useful somewhere else so thats +50 points.

Yes, but consider this, you get to re-roll every '1' in the entire Assault Phase, that makes more of your Attacks hit, more of your Hits Wound, and more of your Armour Saves pass. It also might give you more MotW Attacks. It might give you a little boost with 5 or more different actions that occur in that phase. Each 10-point Standard can easily make a 50 point difference in the game by helping you kill more of your opponent's models, while preserving more of yours.

If there ever was a "no-brainer" choice in any codex in Warhammer 40K, it is the Wolf Standard. There is zero drawback to it, and zero reason not to take one on every Grey Hunter pack. The 10 points is nothing - they'd be worth it if they cost 25 points.
