SteelBrigade92
I played against tau for the first time yesterday and I was hoping to get some good advice for how to get into close combat as soon as possible with crisis suits. I am playing logan wing with 7 drop pods but I didnt have drop pods in my list that game yesterday Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/251195-help-against-tau-crisis-suits/ Share on other sites
Toasterfree
you need to be mobile to get to them first. so if you have pods you will be in their face. the other thing you need is threats for him to shoot out so that he doesnt just smash your terms faces in. crisis can put out tons of plasma shots which has a tendency to melt armor. the bad thing about terms, you may wipe out the entire squad in assault which will just allow you to be shot to pieces in the next turn. your best chance of survival is to shoot them to death IMHO Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/251195-help-against-tau-crisis-suits/#findComment-3045096 Share on other sites
Wolf Priest Haelaeif
I hate to say this, being a Tau player myself, but the most effective thing against Tau suits isn't close combat, it is massed missile fire. S8 will instant kill the 2-wound-models and ap3 will circumvent their save. And since no-one gets quality missile launchers as cheaply as the wolves, your Tau opponent will probably soon hate you. My opponet kept moving them back and was afraid my terms would assualt them. I thought they sucked at close combat. nurglez
They do suck in close combat, however a krak rocket will instantly kill a crisis suit. So use massed missiles at range. It's hard to close with crisis suits cos of their move in the assault phase, out range them and kill them with overwhelming fire power :D Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/251195-help-against-tau-crisis-suits/#findComment-3045145 Share on other sites
Spacefrisian
Add some Spacewolf scout units, this will make them have 2 options. 1. try to avoid the scouts and move forward. 2. stay put and have the scouts get into assult on the turn they arrive. Both of them puts the Tau where they dont have much use for their big guns. Both of them puts the Tau where they dont have much use for their big guns. A Tau player worth his money will still be able to play a mobile game. He can move forward far enough not to be attacked by the scouts and move back the moment they are committed and kill them with either massed fire or his counter-attack units. He will move forward during the first one or two turns anyway to get the most out of his plasma rifles. So yes, they will inconvenience him and force him to make choices. But they will not stop him from plasma-ing terminators to death the moment they poke their heads out of cover. It sounds silly at first, but against Tau, shooting will win you the day more easily than CC, because you can start destroying his important units from turn one. He won't be able to hide all his suits unless you feature a really terrain-heavy board. In that case, you should be able to get into CC easier, though. Multiple units with rocket launchers - maybe a few CML on the WG, one or two units of LF, a Typhoon speeder - will make it even harder for him to hide from your weapons. Grey Mage
Yep, take those CMLs- since your playing loganwing eh?- and target his suits with those. Sure, some will bounce off a 4++ here and there, but overall its the best way to kill them. My local tau players absolutely hate missiles. Lascannons are pretty handy too- broadsides can really ruin a mechanized players day.
