Hey guys,

This weekend I took the following list to a 1850 Tournament:

Draigo

Librarian with Stave and 2x powers (Might of Titans and Sanctuary)

(2x) 10 man Paladins

Full Wound Allocations

4x Psycannons

1x Banner

2x Halberd

2x Sword

2x Falchions

2x Hammers

1x MC Halberd

My first match up was against Chaos Space Marines. His list was (from what I remember)

1x Terminator Lord

1x Daemon Prince w/Wings

1x Terminator Squad with Heavy Flamer

1x Chosen Squad

2x Berserkers in Rhinos

1x Raptor Squad

1x Possessed Land Raider (Godhammer pattern)

1x Soul Grinder

The objectives for the mission:

Deployment: Pitched Battle

Primary: Capture and Control on (3) Objectives

Secondary: Control Most Table Quarters

Tertiary: Have more FA and Heavy standing than your opponent

Bonus:

Primary: Control all three objectives

Secondary: Control all (4) Table Quarters

Tertiary: Have FA or Heavy standing and destroy your opponents

Special Rules:

Variable Gravity: At the start of each game turn roll a D6. On a 1-2 gravity is high. Lose 1 (to a minimum of 1) from all Move through Cover rolls, Jump Infantry lose d3 movement. 3-4 is Normal and 5-6 is low and opposite of 1-2

He won to deploy more objectives than me. He placed one far to the left behind a large building, about 12" from his deployment zone. I placed my sole objective far to the right of the board, about 6" from my deployment edge (within one turn move for my paladins) and he placed the third one about 13" from the right side objective in the middle of the board in terrain.

I deployed Draigo and his squad to one side, and the Librarian to the other. He deployed spread out. LRC providing cover to the Daemon Prince (facing perpendicular to my deployment zone) A Rhino with berserkers in the middle, and the other Rhino, Raptors and Chosen to the left across from My Librarian. Soul grinder is near the middle as well, I assume he's hoping to utilize that Large Template to his advantage.

Turn 1 - High Gravity

I move my Librarian Squad up a whopping 3" due to gravity, climbing up a rocky cliff face attempting to get on top of the building. Draigo and his squad move up and take up a fortified position on top of a hill, within range of his deployment zone. (4) Psycannons unload onto his Land Raider and immobilize it Turn 1, leaving him with a Las Cannon that can't see me. I have no assaults

Opponent moves the Raptors up, moves the chosen up and both the Rhinos come into position to claim the two objectives he placed. Daemon Prince moves towards the Librarian unit from behind the Land Raider. Soul Grinder tries to template Draigo and his bunched up Paladins on the hill, but scatters badly. Las Cannon on the God Hammer fails to bypass Draigo's Shield with it's one shot. Nothing else can shoot.

Turn 2, High Gravity again

Librarian and his squad get 4" closer and stake out to the very edge of the building with 2-3 still on the cliffs. Draigo sits tight, having a good target in range and not wanting to force an assault yet. Librarian can see his Chosen now and unload, taking down three. They flee towards his board edge from losing 25%. Draigo unloads on the Rhino that is camped on the objective near the middle and rips it apart. Killing 2 Berserkers in the explosion. They fail their Leadership and are pinned in the crater.

Chosen Rally. Soul grinder stands still. Daemon Prince moves over to behind the Raptors, who come within range of the objective. Rhino hasn't moved from the objective on the left. Berserkers in the crater stand up but can't move.

Turn 3, Low Gravity (woot!)

Librarian and his squad get their full 6" and claim the roof of the large building. Draigo and his squad take advantage and jump off the hill 4" and move into a good LoS position on the Berserkers. 10/11 members of the squad can see the Daemon Prince and I unload into him, causing him to take 3/4 wounds. Draigo unloads on the Berserkers and kills half of them (Damned fearless!!).

Opponent jumps the Raptors and the Prince to the edge of my building. Soul Grinder scatters horribly again. Unloading with his Multi-Meltas (3 hits, 2 wounds) and I fail my save on a Sword Storm Bolter guy (First model loss!) and pass on another guy (forget which one). He declares his assault. I start with the Powers. I Might of Titans and Sancturary my squad. They singly destroy both assaulting units without taking a wound. I Consolidate 6" and move over to a good firing position on his (now unguarded) Rhino.

*AT THIS POINT MY OPPONENT WANTED TO CONCEED THE MATCH. AT THE ADVICE OF THE TOURNAMENT ORGANIZER HE DID NOT, BUT HE HAD GIVEN UP.

Turn 4, Normal Gravity

Librarian and his squad jump down from the roof and land around his first objective. Draigo and his squad move into a position to bait his Terminators out of the vehicle. They unload on the last Berserker and explode him Siezing their rear-armor advantage, I find the Librarian unloading on the Rhino and causing it to wreck. The Librarian and his squad go (Hammerhand, Might, Hammerhand) as they assault and rip apart the berserkers, passing all the 2+ saves I needed to make. I consolidate towards the Soul Grinder, needing it out of that table quarter.

Opponent moves his Chosen into assault position intending to fire upon me, which he does. Terminators come out and attempt to hurt me. The Soul Grinder moves towards my Librarian unit. It's weapon scatters horribly again. Shooting is ineffective from him. He Assaults my Librarian and I again get Sancturary and Might off before combat. The Librarian and his team do nothing against the Grinder, but the hammer guy rips off both his CC weapons. The Librarian (His target with the Grinder) makes all his 2++ saves (THANK YOU STAVE!) I wipe the Chosen off the board. We consolidate towards the grinder. I take (1) wound and wipe out the Terminators on the other side with Draigo.

Turn 5, High Gravity

Draigo and his squad fall back, finishing off the Berserkers with Shooting. The Librarian and his squad explode the Grinder in a mass of gore.

Opponent doesn't have anything left on the table at this point other than the immobilized Land Raider, who can't get past Draigos Shield again (He's sunk one wound with it the whole game).

Turn 6, low Gravity

I use the Left side paladins at full strength to move and then run into position to claim both objectives. Draigo detaches and runs into a different table quarter (I was hovering near mid-field the whole game). The Librarian detaches and runs toward the last table quarter (Making it barely!!!!) and the remaining members of his squad unload on the back side of the Land Raider and wreck it. Leaving him without a unit standing.

-------------------------------------

Scoring gave me 22 points to his 1. I successfully claimed the Primary and Bonus, the Secondary and Bonus, and we tied on the Tertiary because I didn't take a heavy or FA slot and blew his off the table. I lost a total of (2) models and I had (4-5 terminators with one wound on the table. I really almost felt bad for this guy. He never stood a chance and didn't have any fun. :( )

Game Two:

I played a guy I know, who is super awesome and a really good sport. This was the one matchup at the tournament that I didn't want to face, but I faced him at the one game where there was almost (0) chance of him winning.

I don't know D. Eldar so I can't really give a good list. I know he had 25+ Dark Lances and lots and lots of vehicles.

Mission Objectives:

Deployment: Pitched Battle

Primary: Kill Points (:D :D :D :D)

Secondary: All Area Terrain is an Objective, control the most (Not getting this one!!)

Tertiary: Control the most terrain that isn't in a deployment zone

Bonus:

Primary: Have 3x the KP as your opponent (LOLOLOLOL)

Secondary: Control 2x as many objectives as your opponent (crappy for me, this isn't happening)

Tertiary: Control ALL the terrain that isn't in a deployment zone.

Special Rules: At the start of each game turn, roll a D6, on a 1-2 a Sand Storm has blown in and Night Fighting Rules are in effect. Vehicles must roll a D6 before moving, and on a (1) they cannot move.

He won the roll off and deployed and went first. I was unable to sieze the initiative.

He deploys strongly to one side behind a large piece of Terrain.

Turn 1: SAND STORM :D :D :D

He has (3) vehicles that cannot move this turn. He moves up to a firing position and gives me some easy LoS this turn. He brings to bear all his lances but even with Acute Senses he only fires a few and fails to wound or I make my Cover/Invuln saves (phew)

I move forward, and with my good rolls I get range for all my Psycannons and rip apart two of his Raiders (The 3x Lance bastards)

Turn 2: SAND STORM :D :D :D

He has another (2) vehicles that cannot move, and again doesn't do much. Draigo takes a wound on one side and I lose one model to a failed lance save from the other Raider. The Librarians Squad loses the other SB/Sword guy (I don't need the 4++ in CC against this army)

I continue my slow slog forward, and rip apart his last Raider with Draigos unit. The Librarian comes forward and unloads onto the transport carrying the mobile lances (Blasters I think he said)

Turn 3: No Sand Storm :(

He forgets to move the right side this turn before happily trying to lance my Draigo Unit. This costs me another Wound on Draigo. The Blasters on the right side do have LoS and fire, and despite the 4+ Cover save for only being able to see one model, I lose two guys to the blasters.

Librarian moves up and blows apart his blasters (all but one fails his Save). Draigo takes out another transport and most of the contents fail their saves and flee with 2 bodies left.

Turn 4: Sand Storm :D :D :D

He tank shocks the (4) remaining vehicles into Draigos unit, and fails to cause them to flee. He attempts to fire, but doesn't do much of anything.

I blow up a transport and assault the contents and the other vehicles. Damned needing (6)s to hit, and not realizing his tactic here cost me the Kill Points. I am used to playing Deathwing and being Fearless, so the ATSKNF thing hurt me. Will get there in a second. I failed to kill his chicks in one round of CC due to 4+ dodgy bitch saves. My Librarian and his squad move up and blew up another Vehicle.

Turn 5: Sand Storm again :D :D :D

He tank shocks into my Librarian Unit and they fail on an 11. Draigo finishes his combat.

I look at the table and the position of the vehicles, and, due to me having to leave before round three, I opt to let him score as many points as possible. I stop activly blowing his stuff up.

Turn 6: No Sand Storm.

He moves to claim points for Secondary and Tertiary. Continues his escort of my Librarian and Paladins.

I choose not to try to blow him off the Tertiary Points objective. He has been a good sport and is a very good guy to play against.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

We ended the game with me taking Primary and Bonus points for a total of 13. He took Secondary and bonus and Tertiary and bonus for 12 points. I won by 1 point.

Had I played in the last round I would have played against the most Veteren Player there. And he didn't want to play me and my list anyways (He brought Codex: SM with (5) Dreadnoughts) I would have eaten him seeing the table and what not, but that is fine. He went on to win anyways.

All in all I have found Draigowing to be an amazingly hard list to play against. I will be bringing them back. Most of the people there are good sports, but my first matchup kind of hurt.

Hope it's useful for anyone.

Best,

Paul

T_o manly tear.

That Sandstorm business really screwed with the Dark Eldar player. If he was able to bring all his lances to bear, that match could have gone very differently.

He Assaults my Librarian and I again get Sancturary and Might off before combat. The Librarian and his team do nothing against the Grinder, but the hammer guy rips off both his CC weapons.

Note that you can't use Might of Titan (or Quicksilver) in the opponent's Assault phase.

Draigo and pal's is certainly strong, though they do have a hard time at multiple objective games. A smart opponent will slow you down, and I almost always take a shunting DK along to help provide some speed to this rather slow force, and a slightly cheaper scoring unit (260 points).

An alternative is to deep strike in, though deep striking 5 pallies in can be rather scary, as it's a big chunk of your force.

I'm glad you had fun, I love my Draigowing, though I don't use a librarian anymore due to his power level (add shrouding and you can get a 3+ cover save quite easily, giving your squad storm shields vs most shooting, as there are very few ap 1-2 flamer weapons).

The dark eldar guy with 25 lanced should have wiped the floor with you and then you could only take down 2 flyers a turn if he slipped up dancing at range from you.

He has 36" guns that instakill pallies, you have 24" guns on 6" walking guys. He has the speed to run away all game and shoot you for 4 turns then flat out move onto objectives for more points. That wonky rule really screwed him over on this one with the sandstorms.

Not that you didn't do well, but your opponents did not know how to handle draigowing very well it seems and more random rules can be fun but they mess up any competative fair playing field. Enjoy fighting an IG army with a couple of S10 ap2 blasts, or a 25 dark lance DE army with a good player and no free night fight.. You'd be surpised how fast you guys drop then :)

Missest issue with draigowing like this is you can kill 2 things a turn max, 4 if combat squaded. That will hurt versus strong MSU armies.

Krewl,

You're not telling me anything that I don't know. Trust me, I was elated to get to face him, as I got 2/3 in my favor.

1) Kill Points

2) Free Night Fight/Limited Movement

3) Very little terrain and bad deployment zone for me (Not in my favor)

Like I said, I BARELY won, and had his rolls not been so piss-poor he would have wiped the floor with me. He is also a wonderful guy to play against, so we took it all in stride.
