Matching Paint: Tamiya Spray TS-21 Gold

Recommended Posts

For example, Tamiya's AS-21 Bare Metal Silver matches up perfectly with GW's Mithril Silver (now Runefang Steel). Is there a GW match to TS-21 Gold? I do have Vallejo's Glorious Gold and it's too yellow, although mixing a bit of Mithril Silver gets it about right (but who wants to mix a fresh palette of color to fix errors every time?)

Maybe it'll match Burnished Gold (apparently Auric Armor Gold)?

EDIT: So, GW went and redid the paint line, eh? We haven't carried ti for a while, and I paint less often these days, so that was a shock.

I am able to mix silver and get it to the right shade (as noted above)... I was just hoping for the convenience of a pre-existing color that matched without my needing to mix. Alas, no such luck (I've been hunting on the internet ever since I posted this). I'll just have to not make any painting mistakes. :P

You don't expect me to read back the whole thread when replying to the last message, do you?

In that case I'm afraid I can't help you — largely because I've never used any gold-coloured paints from Tamiya, so I have no idea which colours match them.

Fair point, checking the original post for info is way overrated, IMO. ;)

EDIT: I can do some mixes of the two and give you a pic of the outcomes if you want?

Sounds good! Any help is good help at this point. <_<

Are you two seriously proposing that one of you takes a photograph of something painted with TS-21, a metallic paint, after which the other mixes paints to match the photo — probably as displayed on a computer screen?

I hope neither of you expects this to be even close to accurate ;)

So, I am running Magic: the Gathering Pre Releases all weekend, and plum forgot to take that picture. I'll try and remember tomorrow (I don't own a camera phone or a camera, but he's got one of those fancy smartphone-to-email deals.)

Aha, here we are! Now, it occurs to me, that the color matching might be more successful if I try to match the washed color of the gold (more coppery) than the unwashed gold. Anyways, here's a picture (I did not have an unwashed marine for comparison =/ ). Incidentally, his blobbiness is not only due to the phone's refusal to focus anywhere but the base, but also the dozen layers of paint on this guy.
