Returning to Warhammer with some Qs

Hey wolves of the B&C!

I frequented the forum a while back but dropped the hobby when I went to uni. Well just finished my second year and have been enticed back  and despite my friends telling me to collect a new army, I can’t resist returning to the wolves!

All that remains from my initial force are a set of 10-15 magnetised terminators and the Gamesday Wolf Priest. Im pretty sure everything else has gone.

I managed to pick up an unbuilt army set off GumTree including:

Space Wolves Battleforce

Njal Stormcaller

SW Terminators

SW Pack

SM Devastators

And a bunch of tools and paints to get me started, a healthy start to an army id say!

I go back home later this week, so I might start posting WIPs and stuff soon as I build my army :woot:

So im a little rusty on game things and had some questions :)

1. Jaws of the World Wolf – if a model is touched from a unit, is it that specific model who will be removed or does the opponent choose which model

2. Can I have a WGPL with cyclone missile launcher lead a Long Fang pack? “For every 5 models in the squad 1 WG may choose....” So how does this apply to Pack Leaders? Are they a 1 man squad and thus every pack leader can take a terminator heavy weapon? Or with this same reasoning can they never take heavy weapons because their “squad” never numbers 5? OR can the WGPL take heavy weapons if there are 4 other WG who don’t?

3. Does Wolf Priests Oath of War combine at all with Saga of the Beastslayer? Doesnt seem too much point getting the saga if not

Jaws removes the specific model touched that failed its I check.

Yes, you can have a WGTDA with CML leader a Long Fang pack (or any other eligible pack). For every five Wof Guard in the pack when you are making the list, one in TDA may take a Terminator Heavy Weapon. The Wolf Guard models all belong to the Wolf Guard Pack, until those that are tasks as WGPLs at the start of the game are reassigned to other packs. They are, in all ways, members of the pack to which they are assigned. Including being Troops if attached to a Grey Hunter Pack or Heavy Support if attached to a Long Fang pack.

3. Does Wolf Priests Oath of War combine at all with Saga of the Beastslayer? Doesnt seem too much point getting the saga if not

Sure. In as much as the IC will be able to re-roll to-hits against Walkers, MCs, and T5 models as well as units of whichever Type you select for his unit with Oath of War.

And welcome back.

People have read what you are asking here wrongly. So I'll clarify:

The Long Fangs have a Pack Leader who is part of their squad. He has the ability to allow his Long Fang Unit to split fire at 2 separate targets if he is not firing anything that shooting phase. He only has the options listed in his entry so he can get a variety of special weapons or special close combat weapons, no heavy weapons as they are not listed. He isn't a Wolf Guard in that sense.

Wolf Guard can be assigned as "Pack Leaders" but in the case of the long fangs they do not super-cede the existing Long Fang Pack leader. All they do is attach to that unit. The Wolf Guard doesn't get the pack leader abilities or equipment options only the options listed in the Wolf Guard entry which is in the Elites section, not the Heavy Support section of the Force Organisation Chart.

The Wolf Guard entry allows 1 in every 5 WG brought to be upgraded to carry a Heavy Weapon (HF,AssCan/CML) if he is also wearing TDA (Terminator Armour - Tactical Dreadnought Armour to be precise). This WG can be attached to the Long Fang unit, but that's all the effect he will have on the Long Fangs. he becomes part of the unit so when the Long Fangs Pack Leader doesn't fire the Wolf Guard attachment can fire at a target different to the Long Fangs or split with the Long fangs however you choose to split the whole units' firepower (but you can't fire the CML at both targets, as per the Fire Control rules, the model declares which of the two targets he'll fire at and fires at that one).

Hopefully this clarifies the point for you. :P

As a point of reference, it is usually a bad idea to put the CML WG in with the LF's because you are putting all your support eggs in one basket and also taking away the effectiveness of the CML WG. the CML is a mobile missile support platform, whereas the Long Fangs are static fire support platforms. Attach the CML to a Grey Hunter unit (5 will do) that sits and scores home objectives whilst also providing missile support that can move and fire. You now have 3 targets you can shoot at between the LF's and the GH's instead of 2 if attached to the LF's.

im afraid they actually understood me correctly :P

this is a good point though, i did run the WGPL with CML with a 6 man Long Fang Squad with 5 ML, the 7 ML shots per turn was great, but perhaps you are right about wasting the mobility. I mainly run my infantry in rhinos though so no use there but it could work in a drop pod - but then I lose 1+ turns of shooting.

Thanks for clearing the Qs up guys had 2 games games against a GK Paladin army, and scraped though pinching both right at the end. Found in the second larger game that spamming his 10 Paladin + Draigo squad with JotWW was really quite effective :P As a result of that game I do have some more questions

1. Nullifying psychic powers - if 2 Rune Priests are in range can i attempt to nullify it twice? (if i fail the first) seems only logical that i can?

2. Immobilised walkers - for purposes of assault and shooting can an immobilised walker turn/pivot? do you still always assault the front armour

3. If a bastion has 1 entrance, and an enemy vehicle parks in front of it (or any vehicle gets immobilised/wrecked in front of it) is that entrance now inaccessible and anyone inside is trapped and those on the outside are unable to get in?

4. If Njal is in a vehicle e.g. rhino do oponents count as being in line of sight?

5. Howling Cyclone - do fearless units still need to take the morale check? (or anyone else who can normally pass them)

6. Am i the only one who feels cheated with Njal and Ulrik only having 2 wounds?! especially for the points they cost, similarly priced characters usually have 3 if not 4 wounds.

No see the C:SW FAQ they modified so you coundn't

2. Immobilised walkers - for purposes of assault and shooting can an immobilised walker turn/pivot? do you still always assault the front armour
Models hitting a walkers in close combat always roll penetration aganst its front armour
3. If a bastion has 1 entrance, and an enemy vehicle parks in front of it (or any vehicle gets immobilised/wrecked in front of it) is that entrance now inaccessible and anyone inside is trapped and those on the outside are unable to get in?

If the vehicle covers all the 2" area that would block the access point...... you could shoot the building

4. If Njal is in a vehicle e.g. rhino do oponents count as being in line of sight?

for shooting Njal can draw line of sight from firing point . He cant draw LOS to use his lord of tempests See FAQ

5. Howling Cyclone - do fearless units still need to take the morale check? (or anyone else who can normally pass them)

No they automatically pass if IIrc

6. Am i the only one who feels cheated with Njal and Ulrik only having 2 wounds?! especially for the points they cost, similarly priced characters usually have 3 if not 4 wounds.

NO you not the only one in second ed Njal could take Mephiston on in CC
