Stormhawk81
Thid really only affects multiple wound toughness 3 models, but does a plasma pistol over heating instantly kill an imperial guard officer if he fails his armour save or does he he just take a single wound. I have been under tne assumption for a long time that it was just an automatic wound with no strength, but my opponent earlier today insisted in was at str 7. Chapter Master Ignis Domus
No. The Rulebook simple says it's a wound, not an instant death wound, not a strength 7 wound, not an AP 2 wound, so it's simply a normal wound, as 40k is a permissive ruleset, so unless it says something happens, nothing happens. Jacinda
S- AP- It has no strength, no AP and allows any and all armor or invulnerable saves. Your opponent was wrong. The plasma weapon did not cause the wound. "Gets Hot!" caused the wound. In fluff terms, the model was burned by the coils outside the weapon, not by the projectile fired by the weapon. In RL terms, if you fire a pistol 4 or 5 times and then grab the barrel it will hurt because the barrel is hot. But it will not hurt near as bad as being shot. Arikel
The Feel No Pain special rule can also be used against a gets hot wound if you fail your regular save. Edit: That is partly why quad plasma command squads are sexy.
