Can someone tell me how to paint the diamond shaped gems?

I've never found a good way to paint the diamond shaped gems that are all over the Space Wolves models. Has anyone seen a tutorial? I'm stumped.

 

I can paint the eldar style oval gems but the technique doesn't transfer over the diamond shape.

 

Any help appreciated!

You may try painting it a solid color, with a fairly light highlight on the higher ridges. Afterwards, brush on some gloss varnish to make it shiny.

I would paint it like I have seen some paint frost blades like in this video

Obviously without the airbrush though unless you have some mad skillz
