Fire Badgers

Recommended Posts

This is just a test model, hence why I put it in the WIP section. If I like how this is going it will expand into an army!

Not much to say really. I've been trying to think a new scheme for a while and this one kind of... evolved whilst painting. Any criticism is welcomed, there's a few bits I don't like but generally I think it's a workable scheme.

(Sorry if the colour's a bit washed out... I can never get my camera to do it properly)

In addition I've got some (also Very WIP) fluff written up.

Fire Badgers Liber Astartes

Thanks for looking!

Is this chapter from the world of Somerset? The badge to me looks like a chocolate cake at a 45 degree angle with cream on top and on fire. Not being mean, it is just what I saw the moment I looked at it

I had a dig around on the net and came across this image, which I think you could adapt the head from to make a really nice chapter icon:

Badger Heraldry

If you didn't fancy doing it as freehand, you could always get it printed onto transfer paper.

Just a suggestion!

Alternatively, I think the icon from the Astral Claws would work quite nicely too (Link)

Hmm... maybe I ought to re think it then  Attack of the burning chocolate cakes!

Any ideas? I'm a bit stuck.

Hold on there. Why not have the name "Fire Badgers" be the "Low Gothic" name for them? This page has a fair few names for Badger (Celtic/Slavic/Latin/etc) Perhaps, you could find an "Official/High Gothic" name for them. As others have said, they can be vicious little buggers that just have an "unfortunate" name.

For example, my DIY Chapter (which is an official GW one that has little in the way of fluff) the Rainbow Warriors are known in "High Gothic" as Legio Spectra.

Arctonyx Fuego (Fire Badgers), might be a good one (or not) ^_^ If I think of anything else, I'll post it here ;)

Edit: Good finds WotF ^_^

@WotF: Thanks for that. Not sure if my painting is quite up to that standard but I can try (I don't really like transfers, I can never get them to settle right).

Some other ideas of mine;

Badger Claw on fire.

WotF's badger head... on fire

A flame shape, but rendered in black and white.

@Aquilanus Legio Spectra sounds... awesome! Can't believe the poor buttmonkey (they got omitted from the new codex  )of the Marines has such a great High Gothic name. How does Meles Fuego sound? I can't imagine the Badgers themselves using it, but having all other space marine chapters refer to them as that out of shame.

 I nearly posted that, but didn't want to hijack your thread.

Legio Spectra isn't something GW came up with, a Brother (Heru2012) on these forums came up with the name and I ran with it ^_^

Meles Fuego sounds good, especially as Meles sounds like Melée (or disorganised close combat), a good double meaning, to me at least ;)

Just to clarify, I do like the name Fire Badgers. It's just good to hear other options, and get chances to use gratuitous latin. Legio Spectra still sounds awesome.

Symbol ideas. I like 2 and 5, but I don't think I'd be able to reproduce them consistently. 6 and 7 would be easier to do. Sorry it's not scanned, can't get to the scanner.

Love it. We are the Bravo Badgers back in the unit so im a fan. Wings mentioned doing transfer sheets for your badges which is the route I have to take with my Death Guard becuase my freehand is lame. Anyway here is an idea for you either way.

Think it would look pretty slick but again, up to your tastes of course.

I wouldn't be too quick to Latinize a name. High Gothic isn't Latin, so it isn't even technically correct to do it, lol. Honestly a bad name for a chapter is a bad name for a chapter, whether it's in English or in Latin. I'm not calling Fire Badgers a bad name, by the way. I'm just saying that if you want to change it, making it Fire Badgers in Latin will really be no different, lol.

You could always use the tried and true method of DIY chapter naming and make small scraps of paper with the words Iron, Angels, Eagles, Knights, Sons, Dragons, Silver, Black, Dark, Death, Fire, Wolves, Fists, Hawks, Lords, Blood, Swords, Storm, White, Emperor, Warriors, Fury, Imperial, Red, Disciples, Ravens, and Marines into a hat, shake it up, and pick two out randomly. ;)

My sincerest apologies. Glad people like the name though. Seems to be a bit like Marmite.

Anyway, small update. First, the a converted KV-20 Bulk Transporter ("Warbox")
