Basing problems

Recommended Posts

Hey Guys, i'm new around here. Now as the tittle might suggest i have a somewhat of a problem on my hands, after recently started on collecting an ork army i have run into the situation where i cant make up my mind as to how to base the army.

I've been going back and forth between ash waste bases or something more orthodox like ice or snow bases, and seeing that my first batch of boy's are about the be completed in terms of painting, i would really like some sugestions on what basing terrian to go with.

In my experience the majority of tables are green or at least partly green. Then it depends on what you like.

For example:

green base colour, green flock and/or grass/static grass, then put some snow elements to cover bits of it.

brown base colour, dirt / rock elements with maybe a few little grassy patches

brown base colour, dirty / sand patches with yellowed grass and rock/pebble scatters

Just have a look at natural settings. Usually you won't see snow in desert etc.

I'd suggest either:

a. As others have said, go with whatever will fit in with your (usual) gaming terrain. Where do you usually play? At the local GW or FLGS? Look at what gaming boards they have and base your miniatures to fit one of those.

b. go with a theme and colour scheme that will either contrast or compliment your miniatures. For example Blood Angels on desert terrain looks great. As your army is an ork one (bear in mind this is a power armour forum. You might get more advice on an Ork-centric one) I'd suggest bases which are not green, unless you're doing a Blood Axe army and everyone will be camouflaged...in which case I'd suggest forest/jungle terrain and really go for it. <_<
