War Angel
For those of you who remove them, how long does it take you, I'm finding myself spending a few hours removing them from a squad. An I going about this wrong? Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/251555-question-in-regards-to-removing-mold-lines/ Share on other sites
Myxx
it takes me about 10-15 minutes per infantry model, more obviously for dreads and the like... Death Guard Trooper
Sounds maybe a little excessive but not insane. I have three different hobby files I use, round, flat and triangle. With those I tend to get them pretty good. I use the dremel with a sanding pad for crazy areas I may want to hit but I take off a little more that mold lines with that most the time. Brother Argent
Sadly no... It is by far one of the most annoying and repetitious tasks in the hobby. Crazy Eight
I spend on average a minute per model removing mild lines with a scalpel and small files but not hours on just 1 squad and I'm very thorough Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/251555-question-in-regards-to-removing-mold-lines/#findComment-3049854 Share on other sites
War Angel
Should I be doing this after assembly? Myxx
I do it after assembly but before priming. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/251555-question-in-regards-to-removing-mold-lines/#findComment-3049860 Share on other sites
Kierdale
Personally I do it before assembly. It's easier to get my blade/file to all the mould lines, while if I did it afterwards it might be difficult to get the tool to some lines (which might still be visible. Under-arms, etc). War Angel
I just finished the legs, about an hour and 20 minutes Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/251555-question-in-regards-to-removing-mold-lines/#findComment-3049875 Share on other sites
Death Guard Trooper
I definalty do mine beforehand. Once they are together for me its too late to reach some areas I wanted to hit. Subtle Discord
Personally, I don't pay attention to how long it takes. It's done when it's done. I hate mould lines, and am compelled to remove them, so I do. Â But, I'm a bit of a masochist and can get a little caught up in the details. Sometimes that means more time than many people would spend, but I think the results are worth it. I have to live with the end result after all, so I don't want to think "would have / should have / could have", when I look at a model. Excessus
I do mine before assembly with a knife, takes a minute or something to clean up a model. You get better at it as the time goes... DarkMark
Something like an hour or two for a marine, vehicles loads more. I use the brain dead time to think about how I'd like the paint job to go. Dorns Padawan
Mould lines are a real pain in the ass but I find painting a bigger one :P . I use a scalpel to scrape away the mould lines though on odd occasion I need to get the GS out to correct gouges as I have been a bit over zealous (must be the BT player in me :P ). For the real nasty parts I use a selection of needle files to get the job done. I don't tend to count how long it takes me but it don't take me too long. I always take the mould lines off as soon as I have removed the piece from the sprue.
