The Revelators Space Marines Chapter

Origins

With the turmoil surrounding the start of what would later become known as the Age of Apostasy in the early part of M35 the enemies of the Imperium began to take advantage of the weakened Imperium. Ork raiders, free from the constant vigilance of an Imperium now focussed internally began to strike out from their various empires. Bands of Traitors revelled in bloody chaos across several Imperial Sectors. To combat this rising unrest the High Lords of Terra declared a new founding of the Adeptus Astartes. Born from this founding, the Eighteenth Founding, was a Chapter whom would become known as the Revelators. Born from the gene-seed of Roboute Guilliman with a command being drawn from the Ultramarines themselves the Revelators were sent to join the already growing Crusade against rebellious planets on the border of Segmentum Ultima.

During their early years of the conflict they operated alongside a large detachment of the Frateris Templars, the military arm of the Ecclesiarchy in the days before the Age of Apostasy. Working alongside such fanatically devout soldiers whose power in some aspects rivalled that even of the Imperial Guard the Revelators quickly succeeded in suppressing the worlds they were sent to conquer. The addition of the Frateris Templars to the Revelators quickly became a standard force, with the Revelators smashing apart defence lines and the breach being flooded by the Templars. This union was to last until the outset of the Age of Apostasy in the early part of M36.

With the problems besetting the Imperium growing worse by the hour and as the public executions and burnings became more and more frequent the Revelators were one of many Chapters whom sought to distance themselves from the political upheaval. This was not to the approval of the Frateris Templars commander whom was working with them. He insisted the Chapter, not only continue to assist in the purging of rebellious worlds, but that they should openly declare loyalty to Goge Vandire. When the Revelators Chapter Master refused the Templars turned on the Chapter, attacking their fleet in space and attempting to board their craft. It soon turned into a bloody ship to ship battle with the Revelators eventually breaking contact and fleeing into the warp. With the increased turbulence in the Warp and the ship damaged from their fight when the Revelators emerged they found themselves no where near their intended destination and instead were cut off in a small section of space known as The Oscan Rift. It was there they took shelter until the warp storms that had cut the sub-sector off. When they emerged they found a changed Imperium. The Age of Apostasy was over, with Vandire dead and the Frateris Templars disbanded. Having been able to rebuild and strengthen during their time in the Rift they resumed their crusade, working to bring the light of the Emperor and the rule of the Imperium to those worlds fallen from His sight.

Home World

When the Revelators arrived in the Oscan Rift in mid M36 they arrived at the world of Sarno. Once a thriving world loyal to the Imperium when the Revelators arrived Sarno was little more then a half frozen ruin shrouded in permanent dusk. The sun that Sarno orbited was dying, producing little heat and almost no light strong enough to reach the planet. Because of this Sarno’s Hive Cities were all abandoned, leaving vast frozen ruins, with the planet’s few remaining people fleeing into underground cave networks or even the once vast cities network of sewers and cellars. It is here that they eke out an almost tribal existence, coming to the planets survace only to engage in combat over the planets scarce remaining resourses. These groups of survivors are united into various ‘city states’ banding around powerful leaders and each has their won territory within the underground networks of the planet.

It was here, during their entrapment in the Rift, that the Revelators based themselves, establishing a small fortress on the planet. They recruited many of the ‘city states’ suitable youth and eventually, even when the warp storms abated, came to call Sarno their home. Over the years since then they have spread their influence to the other worlds of the Sarno Rift. The planets of Cumae, Nola and Stabiae all eventually swore fealty to the Revelators and they are now regarded as the masters of the Rift.

Although it is here in the Rift that they draw their recruits the Revelators true home is still their mighty battle barge the Vigilant Fury. Gifted to them by the Ultramarines upon their founding it has been repaired and upgraded many times since. The mighty vessel is home to most of the Chapters facilities, such as their armory and Chapter Chapel. Where ever the Chapter goes on Crusade the Vigilant Fury often follows, giving the Chapter vast support in terms of space borne fire power as well as easily accessible reinforcements and supplies.

Combat Doctrine

Being true sons of Guilliman the Revelators fight as per the doctrines of the Codex Astarets, the great and holy tome laid down by their forefathers and tested and tried over countless millennia of wars and strife. They differ little from the Primarchs teachings and place great trust in the tactics given within. They have only one major divergence from this tome. At some time in the Chapter’s past, although it is unsure when, the Chapter gained a distrust for the standard drop pod tactics used by other Astartes. Instead they have moved to prefer the more reliable and over whelming fire power of the Thunderhawk instead. Although not as sudden and unstoppable assault as one would normally obtain from the use of drop pods the Chapter has refine the use of the gunship so that tactically there is little difference in result.

Organization

The Revelators follow the standard organisation of all Codex adherent Chapters with each company falling into the role of Battle or Reserve Companies.

Beliefs

The Revelators hold to an unusual belief system amongst Astartes. Believed to be a direct consequence of their early actions alongside the fanatacly devout Frateris Templars the Revelators hold a greater reverence for the Emperor then normal Astartes. Although, like any true astartes, they do not worship him as a god they do believe he is a divine entity. Indeed that he is the divine messenger of a far greater power yet to come. In turn they also revere all the primarchs, seeing them as nearly divine teachers and heroes as well. For them all whom have fought and died in the Emperor’s name are worthy of reverence. As such brother swill often inscribe the name of fallen brothers onto armour, weapons or even ammunition, so that they can be inspired by their brothers’ deeds. The Chapters Chaplain will bless their weapons and armour before battle and to use a weapon that hasn’t been thusly anointed is seen as a sin and a brother must do penance for such an act. Over the Chapters long years many are the brothers whom have thrown themselves at the enemy as penance for using an unanointed weapon.

These beliefs have, on several occasions, brought them into conflict with both their brother astartes and the Imperium at large. They have, however, always simply removed themselves from any conflict. Preferring to face the dishonour of retreat then fight against those loyal to the same cause again.

Gene-seed

Founded with the gene-seed of the Ultramarines the Revelators gene-stock is still as pure as their forefathers. Although the rejection rate is high amongst the natives of Sarno, particularly with those of psychic talent, this is seen as a problem with the recruits and not the gene-seed itself.

Battle-cry

Insert snappy Battle cry here.

Okay so its been a while since I did this... Here is the first, very rough and scrappy outline of my latest Chapter, the Revelators. It need LOTS of work and polish. I wrote this in one morning so yeah, please excuse the mistakes and poor quality.

Its so sad when three pages in word turns out so small here...

I find it quite good all-in-all. Some quite nice ideas and it flows pretty well I find. Sure, it's still a draft and needs fattening up a bit, but it's still quite good.

I'd like to pick up on the recruit's bodies rejecting the implants/gene-seed: why did you include this? Are you going to develop it some more?

I ask this because I think it's a very nice quirk that adds character to the Chapter, but as it is now, it's lacking some more details and explanation. And I'd love to see how the Chapter deals with this problem. Is that why they have four recruitment planets? Or is there something else that they changed to compensate for the unusually slow recruitment rate?

Anyhow, I'll be watching this with interest

Well the idea of the homeworld and poor recruit acceptance was actually loosely based on Pompeii. A world basically frozen in time. This evolved to a dying sun freezing the world onto a necron C'tan eating the sun mostly and thus the homeworld people being kinda screwed up. But the Gene-seed flaw idea was just a last minute thought. Now that I think about it, however, I think I need to expand on it more and fluff it out, otherwise they end up as a slightly different Ultramarines.

EDIT: and YAY! Someone commented!
