Biohazard, Post 3 - WIP Star Phantoms

Worked on a test white earlier. The paint started to dry out a little so looks a little rough in spots but overall Im pretty happy with it. :)

If not to late i would like to join in this, I would be interested in poping out afew Marines Errant for the cause. I have some extra forge world goodies laying around doing nothing at the moment. Would give me a nice change of pace from painting other things. :D

First thing I thought when looking out this guy "Don't...turn...around...." ;)

The white looks good. Is that with the new paints?

Yeah hes screwed lol. This guy was done over a black primer, rakarth flesh base, 50/50 rakarth/skull white then a wash of asurmen blue then a 60/40 white/flesh mix then pretty much pure skull white. I got the recipe form 1000heathens over on the 17 gamers thread.

It's a really nice white. Interesting recipe too. Thanks! <_<

You might want to consider a different approach. I used desert yellow (army primer) and then after that was dry I sprayed skull white over the top but did not use as a heavy a covering so that the covered (and so shaded sections) retained a darker colour. I then washed with Gryphonne Sepia (I think) and then drybrushed with bleached bone and then highlight with skull white to get the following effect:

Obviously you might want to add white to the bleached bone before highlighting to get a whiter tone but thought I would add this is as it really is a very lazy process and doesn't look too bad when finished.

Mordenthex,Mr Malevolent. I would just start building guys, I think Emprors Immortal has limited internet access at the moment but the first post says its pretty casual as long as you sign up and finish at least a 5 man unit by the end of the month. If Im talking out of turn here guys just let me know and i will tuck tail. :jaw:

Yes pipe down you, :P

Since Emperors Immortals has clearly met with an unfortunate accident, brutally cutting off his head whilst shaving no doubt. I hereby decree that I have now taken over. Mwaa haa haa.

On a less serious note, Biohazard has got the right idea, it's all fairly laid back in here, the more the merrier. How else did Robin Hoods men become merry (if it wasn't alcohol related). So just post away as and when you like. As long as you complete a unit of some description each month there will be no more accidents.

Cheers

I would just start building guys.

That was exactly my plan haha. But seriously thanks for letting me know about this, I really need the push to get a full army painted. I should have a full Assault squad together tonight and hopefully get some pics taken if I'm lucky.

The yellow ones in charge?.....We're all doomed..................

Well..ok then. I wasn't thinking to far ahead. But im rather sure i could pump out a 5 man squad by the end of this month easy enough and another next month for sure. After that, Summer holidays makes paint time a little fuzzy at best. Hopefully post up some goodies soon enough. :P

Mr.Malevolent, Post #1 - First Lamenters Assault Squad WIP

So here is the first 5 man Assault Marine squad.
Really hoping this keeps me motivated to stick with these guys.
Hope you like em so far.

And yes the Veteran Sergeant is using a hand flamer.
I've learned to quite love these little buggers since Adepticon.
I could have used at least a few and have learnt my lesson to take them.
Hope you like!

Ok so first 5 marines WIP. It feels nice to paint something not red or black again. :)

Im using Metallic for the Blue. So far im happy with the results, I may highlight alittle more to bring it out.

After I finish these I think i will make a Captain Anton Narvaez which the rules for are great considering his low points cost.

Mr Malevolent, the Assault Squad is looking good so far. Look forward to paint. :)

Mordenthex, I like the metallic blue you have going. How did you achieve that?

Biohazard, Post 4 - WIP Star Phantoms

Paint in progress, Ill hopefully get a chance to finishe these off today. I may change the yellow chest eagle to more of a bone colour though.

Below are 3 different Metallics that i use a lot on my models. First is Bronze second Gold and then Silver. I do not know if you can find these at a local art store but feel free to try. The silver is not like GW silver It can freely mix with any basic color i have tried so far and turn it from normal lets say "blood red" to Metallic blood red. In this way I can make pretty much any metallic color i want as long as i have A: the base color and B: mix in my silver. The ratio I normally try to use is 50:50 If you wish to make the color alittle lighter you can even add a spot of white to the color to lighten it with out any negative effects. I love this stuff. The only down side is that by itself it is a rather weak pigment. I think it is only made of pure silver dust, no pigment added. Requires more than 2 coats at least if used alone and have a much longer drying time than GW and Vallejo. They are very thick and require diluting or risk gobbing up your fine detail. The colors are much brighter and reflective though. Also i got these in china, i really don't know if they are available in other countries. They probably have lead in them........... :D

Marines Errant Metallic Blue:

1.base coat Mordian blue.

2 Black wash.

3 Large highlight Mordian blue/Silver 50:50,

4 Blue wash,

5 Highlight top Surface area's Enchanted Blue/Silver 50:50

I currently have no idea what color to use to really make these guys bling, The black bolters is just not cutting it and i do not want red bolters. Maybe i will give them yellow stripes or something. Any idea's would be welcomed.

If you can find em get em and try it, they should be dirt cheap. I think i only paid roughly 3$ US each. B)

@ MordentHex, really liking the metallic blue against the white, certainly gives them a bit more texture than usual.

@ Biohazard, keep the eagles yellow, gives a bit more colour against the white rather than having white and off white

Can I join the thread? I'll post my next things in here instead of the looking for RS players thread, makes a bit more sense.

If so I just finished this conversion and paint job the other day:

Redscorps - Contribution 1 - Red Scorpions Praetorian

gallery_56414_7248_190400.jpg

That can be my contribution for the minute, I am working on a Tac squad (5), Speeder and Attack Bike at the moment and should have them ready to go soon as well.

PJ with the Astral Claws, we should battle, you have red dirt on your guys as well so it would look mint!
