Hi everone

 

I just return from my travels from Nottingham, where I was down that Warhammer World to take part in the Throne of Skulls event. 2010 up to last year I use my Space Wolves, which saw many great games, saga & honour to them. But for this year, I went for a brand new version of my Iron Warriors. Many reason really, my Iron Warriors have been collected for ten years, my first tournament Conflict Scotland was around this time in 2002 so again ten year & also all the new hobby supply & models making it even better now to make some cool converted armies.

 

For the Iron Warriors I took my 2008/2009 list but I change my Plasma guns in the Chaos units for Melta guns which help a lot more to be honsty & fit in better with my play style (I like Mech army & general going into combat a lot)

As the Black Templars fleet was being destroyed & the planet Prometheus was being bombarded by the Iron Warriors fleet, the only warning was the fire from the sky. Then the Iron Warriors struck, launching their Dreadclaw Assault Pods.

 

Prometheus was a world that was liberated by the Iron Warriors during the great crusade. The Imperial turned it into a Forge World to help supply the Imperial armies during the great crusade Since then, that time of the great crusade has became myth & legend as a millennium passed. Now a Black Templar Crusade Force is stationed there, re-supplying for a crusade they planned to launch to the east of the Imperial border against a Xenos threat.

 

Abhorred Riddick’s ultimate aim was to take Prometheus back, the planet that his battle brothers had fought & bled for during the Great Crusade & got little credit for. By right the planet Prometheus was theirs & Riddick would make the Imperial pay. He would slaughter those Templars who dared to insult him by setting foot on the planet.

After slaughtering a unit of Black Templar Space Marines, Abhorred Riddick was drawn to his old memories.

 

Warsmith Abhorred Riddick had led the 5th Grand Company since the Great Crusade, when gods walked among men & humanity was being reunited after the darkness of “old night”. The Iron Warriors along with the other Space Marine legions were hailed as heroes, until the Emperor betrayed them. The Iron Warriors along with seven other Space Marine legions took sides with Horus Lupercal & pledged their loyalty to the Chaos. This led to the Horus Heresy, where brother would fight brother.

Since then, the Iron Warriors 5th Grand Company have fought in many wars & campaigns against the Imperial, other chaos legions & Xenos races. They fought along with their Primarch Perturabo during the Iron Cage. Throughout the 10th Black Crusade along with other Iron Warrior Grand Companies, the 5th Grand Company helped attack the Iron Hands Chapter on Medusa, the Iron Hands own home world. During the 13th Black Crusade the 5th Grand Company fought on the very ground of Cadian. There they honoured the chaos gods by building a great fortification on Kasr Sonnen.

 

After the 13th Black Crusade, Abhorred Riddick led an attack on Belarius sector. In that sector world by world fell, from Sellon II to the mighty Forge Worlds of Delaphis. The mightiest of the Imperial armies were sent forth in the form of a Blood Angels Space Marine Strike Force, an Imperial Guards of the Hannigain 22nd Airborne & a detachment of the Sisters of Battle Order. In the concluding days Abhorred Riddick laid siege to the final Imperial out post, “Adeptus Mechanicus Forges”, a mighty Forge Fortress on Delaphis. There the Iron Warriors destroyed that once strong Imperial Fort to the ground, slaughtering all within the walls.

 

Warsmith Abhorred Riddick’s attention was drawn back into the battle as his vox went. Iron Squad - Iupatus Proeliator voxed that the Black Templars had launched a counter attack. Abhorred Riddick smiled. He’d always respected & admired the abilities of “the cult”, they were virtually unstoppable & a single cult member had the same amount of fire power as a single Tactical squad of Space Marines. Fate had seen fit to infect them with a warp born tech virus that had melded their flesh & armour into one & turned them into machines of Chaos. Abhorred Riddick gave the order to unleash the Obliterators!!!

 

Fri saw me travel down to Nottingham from up here in Scotland. So once I reach into Nottingham I'd book into my hotel & then go over to Warhammer World to try get a few practise games & to met up with people I knew from past Throne of Skulls events or local tournament up here.

 

My first practise game would be against Andy who I fought last year that Throne of Skulls April round 3 when he use his nids. But for this year he chosen to go with a brand new army being the Space Wolves, with the release of the Thunder Wolves models.

 

Thunder & Iron

Andy list - Thunder Wolf HQ, Wolf Guard Battle leader?, Rune Priest, 3x Grey Hunter units in transport, 2x 3 Thunder Wolves units.

 

After I got myself some food. It was time to give Andy a practise game for the weekend ahead & to let a few people see how my new Iron Warriors force turn out.

 

My aim against Andy force was to support each unit so they'd be able to counter attack/fill in any gaps as I never really fought a Thunder Wolf army before. I have one planned for my own Space Wolves force in the near future, but never fought them yet on the gaming table & was unsure what to exspect.

 

That first I mange to get my Iron Warriors to take a few wounds off them with my Bolt Pistol, which Andy commented happen a bit when he had practise games with the list. Yet he mange to make his Inv saves vs my Terminators Combi Plasma when they deep strike down.

While that was happing, my Obliterators where taken down his tanks

 

By mid game, Andy break off the Thunder Wolf Lord to go solo & it ended up that this lone model took a good bit of my army out. I belive he killed a Obliterator, a unit of Chaos Marines, my Warsmith, another unit of Marines & a Obliterators. All of this with out lossing a single wound.

 

In the end Andy won as he slaughter a good part of my army & held onto one object & contesting with another with his Lord.

I've never really fought much against the new Grey Knights, I think I had about four games in total. This being the fourth time I fought them since the codex was release just last year.

 

I let Nurglez go first & set up first. This just allowed me to see where the 10 Paladin unit would set up but also with this being object base mission, in the hope I could get last min object or contest before the game was over.

 

Nurglez kept his Dreadknight in reserve, which came on turn 2? Useing it teleport running up the right side of my flank. Killing two single Obliterators & a unit of 10 Chaos Space Marines. I mange to take down the Dreadknight but it was not until the last turn with my unit of 4x Chaos Terminators deep strike down on the last turn.

Like wise I mange to wipe out the 5 Paladin unit from shooting & close combat. But Nurglez slaughter my own force from those combat or the great fire power that the Grey Knight can fire out.

 

In the end I think I just had my unit of Terminators that arrive late. While Nurglez held two objects with his 10 Paladin unit.

 

Was a great game & learnt a lot. As said I rarely fought Grey Knights & even the once I fought they all been diffrent army list wise which is great & what I like about the current codex since Orks with the freedom of army list picking/unit.

After two great practise games. I went into Bugman bar with a few friends to get a drink & was hope food was still being serive to find out they stop that 8pm :( So called it a day & went back to my hotel for a earily night, to get ready for the weekend.

Game 1 - Storm of Iron

Oppent - James

Army - Imperial Guards

List - Command in transport, 3x veterans in transport, 1x Vendetta, 2x Leman Russ, Hellhound (the Hellhound version with Melta gun?) & a Guard tank with 4x Missile (sorry can not rememeber the name right now, bare in mind I am type this after come back from Nottingham/Train a mere few hour ago)

 

Mission - Kill Points, Pitch Battle.

Loss

 

So it was the start of the Throne of Skulls weekend & round 1 would see me vs James. I fought a few of James friends from other events from last year ToS July, April & 40k double. It wired last year in July ToS I fought James friend Chris on round 1 as well :D

Also it was wired, when me & Andy where sign in for the event on the Fri, when we both took out what table we'd be on, I got table 13, while Andy for 14 :(

 

James had brought his Imperial Guard force along for the event & I alway enjoy battle Guards. Last year I belive ever ToS I fought a Guard force & they alway offer a great challenge.

As the game started I op to go first, my aim was to try to cover as much ground as possible before the Guard release there fire power on my tanks. While trying to get support from the Obliterators. Sadily for the Obliterators, it seem there Lascannons where out of order :( For three turns I fired 10 Lascannons shots, all rolled a 1. I got a award last year before one of my Dreadnought failed to hit with a Twin Linked Lascannon for 6 turn.

 

But as the game got on, both side where taken heavy loss. With the Guard shooting as many of my IW force, while my Iron Warriors slow mange to get into combat with James left flank (my right). The game ended on turn 5 & James won by two more kill points than me with it being 7v5. Was a really good game & unsure how it went if the game went on. There was a Guard command & 2x tanks for myself, but same time James Vendetta flyer had a good line of sight onto a Rhino of mine & he still had 2x Veteran units with there transport who could gun down one of the 10 Chaos Marine squads, what was left of them.

 

It alway great to get a brillaint first game that any event to led forward to the weekend :D

Win

 

First time I fought another Chaos Space Marine army in some time & like James. Matthew was a great oppent along with his Thasound Sons force.

 

Matthew set up a Rhino with a unit of Thasound son's inside along with his Sorcer. While I set up two empty Rhinos (which the squads would walk on 6 inch & go inside on turn 1) & my Daemon Prince

 

The game was really blood. I never seen that many Thasound sons, but Matthew shown how cool they are with the Ap3 bolter & the unit leader with there force weapon. During the game Matthew use weight of fire power to taken my unit down, while his Predators would deal with my Terminator & Obliterator.

While the Chaos Sorcerer would go solo assault one of my 10 IW unit slaughter them all by the end of the game.

 

By the end of the game, the Thasound Sons only had there Sorcerer HQ left alive. While for myself I just had a unit of Chaos Marines, 2x Terminators & a few Obliterators kicking about.

 

It was great to battle another Chaos force, it been to long & ToS I belive saw 11 Chaos force, ever force was there. But it wired to see Space Wolves with just three armies there, when last year there where load mine being one of them :(

Two great games. It was also great talking with both James & Matthew during the breaks/before each round during the weekend about the hobby :D

 

So with round 2 finish, it was a quick break & then getting ready for Round 3, the last round for Day one of the Throne of Skulls event.

Round 3 - Blood & Iron

Oppent - Matt Hill

Army - Blood Angels

Army list - Chaplain, 2x High Priest, 2x Tactical Squads (?), Assault Squad, Land Raider Redeemer, Drop Pod with BA Dreadnought, Librarian Dreadnought.

Mission - Caputre & Control (one object each), Table Quater!

 

Round 3 & it would see me on table 43, the table next to the one I'd fought round 2 vs Matthew. I would be battle the Blood Angels, a grudge army for my Iron Warriors back when I started collecting them in 2001 leding up to Conflict Scotland.

 

With the two mission roll up the last two round, C&C with Spearhead set up was the only left for day one of the ToS event. As said in my SW report, I am not to keen on spearhead set up :( But end of the day this was still a great game & like the other two hard fought between myself & Matt.

 

For myself I set up, aim to try cover as much ground with two Rhino units, while hold another back. I set up my Obliterators as there was a Dreadnought w/Pod & a Land Raider with a unit of Assault Marines + High Priest kicking about. While my Terminators would be aim to deep strike near the object, if they live they'd try get into assault & just slaughter as much as possible.

 

However, as they say no plan stay planned. Matt mange to deep strike his Dreadnought dead on in the middle of my Iron Warrior force, destroying a Rhino with his Melta Weapon, while the Flamer cause a few wound as well. Then on my turn, one of my other Rhinos would be immobile from a terrain test but fate is mean. The Rhino repaired it self on turn 2, then re-immobile it self on turn 3 never to repiar it self during the game.

 

Another key point was Matt Librarian Dreadnought assault into a unit of Terminators from turn 3 to turn 5, I belive turn 3/4/his turn 5 I only loss one Terminator, while the rest all made there Inv save keep the Dreadnought that bay. While my Warsmith was making a run for it after slaughter the Assault Marine unit when they deep strike near my line on turn 3. Later my Daemon prince would be taken on the Librarian Dreadnought in combat, but my dice went against me until my turn 6. But as the game went onto turn 7 Matt use what was left of his force to take down my Warsmith before he could assault them.

 

In the end I held my object with two unit of Chaos Marines near by, one them due to there tank destroyed, the other from immobile. Along with the Obliterators. While Matt held his Object with a mere two Space Marines, along with the Chaplain & a High priest that was all at was left of Matt force.

 

Another great game & a good way to end day one of the event.

So with the last round for Day one over. It was time to quickly pick up dinner & then head into Bugman bar for the pub quiz & general banter. Then the next day would see the finial two games for the weekend.

After a great day one against three great oppent & some food. It was time for day two of the Throne of Skulls event.

 

After getting a Bacon roll from bugman bar for breakfast, I found out that I would be battle another Chaos Marines force theme around Nurgle/Death Guard. Like Matthew game, I would do the same set up two empty Rhinos along with my Daemon Prince.

 

Tuen 1 was quite with Night fight in place. But after word. Turn 2 Ian deep strike his Terminator unit with the Lord into my force which would later see a lot of solid close combat & fire support when my own Terminator deep strike down.

While else where, my Warsmith & my 3rd unit of Chaos Marines went to take on Ian Obliterators. My own Obliterators took care of the Deflier & give fire support to the units deal with his Terminators.

 

While during the game, Ian Daemons held my Warsmith up for a few turns in close combat after he'd slaughter the Obliterators.

 

When turn 5 ended, Ian rolled a dice & the game ended. He held two Object with what remain of the two Death Guard units. While I helpd three, one with a full 10 Man squad after they slaughter the Obliterators, then the other two Object where held barely by 4 Chaos Marines/what was left of there unit.

During round 4 I was told by the event team that my Iron Warriors would be up for the top 8 armies Nominee for Best army, where all the gamer attend Throne of Skulls would vote for which army they like'd. I'll be going though this in a bit after my last round :P After setting up my Iron Warriors in the display case, it was time to get launch which as usely is alway great as the event team know from my feedback fourm :D

After some launch & set my army out for the top 8 Army nominee. It was time for the finial round of the Throne of Skulls weekend. I found out I would be on table 19 & against Black Templars.

I think the last time I fought Templars was back in 2003 Conflict Scotland & since then I not really fought them. Templar are among my top three favrout armies with Iron Warriors & Space Wolves, hope for a codex in the near future :lol:

 

So I would be against Alexandro who came to the event from Spain.

 

With in the first few turns his 10 man Terminator unit smash into my line killing a unit of 2x Obliterators & a 10 Chaos Marine unit as well as destroy a Rhino. I counter attack into there with the ten man unit from the destroyed Rhino along with a single Obliterators.

 

During the last few turn of the game, while a unit of my Terminators loss combat. While fleeing mange to rapid fire bolter into Alxandro Chaplain kill him, while the last Thunder Hammer terminators made all his save. Just we both found it funny & Alexandro give me a Templar helmet to add onto my Terminator trophie spikes.

Overall the Throne of Skulls April event was a great weekend. I had five brillaint games during the tournament & two great practise games.

 

I ended up with 12pts. 7 for the Gaming with the two wins, one draw & two loss. While gain another five point from favrout oppent where after the games we pick one of our five games/player as favrout oppent, thanks to the oppents for these vote :)

I came in the top 30 out of 132 player & was one point away from the best chaos player. The best Chaos Marine player had 13pts. Just it good to see how close it was.

Just when I attend tournament, my main aim is the army side. Just I really like seen cool armies, it give you idea to add onto your current force or try out idea on a brand new army.

I alway been a big fan of nicely converted & painted models & armies. It also one of the reason I join the fourm, not the moan which be honsty everone get sick off. I want to see cool armies.

 

For myself I like to go all out on a army I am taken to a tournament. For my Iron Warriors this is the 6th version. I been collecting Iron Warriors for ten years now & ToS April was also marking ten year of attend tournament for myself. For the IW I wanted to go all out. Games Workshop has release a lot of brillaint models over the years & we are seeing a lot of new plastic kits which offer a wider range for people like myself to convert with. Also not just that but over the last few months we saw a lot of hobby release to the range as well. For the IW I wanted to make use of the GW Turft grass, the water effect & the Medium all of which have help bring further life to my Iron Warrior army, to tell a story about where the army fighting, who they battle & if it a start of a war or mid way though or near the finial stage.

 

So was really happy to get a Nominee for my Iron Warriors. My Space Wolves pick up a fair few army Nominee last year as well :D

 

When it come to armies. I am alway taken what I think will do well on the gaming table. But also what I will enjoy converting

 

Tournament

 

As said there I been attend tournament for ten year now. Just tournament tend to get a bit of negative on the fourms & a lot of if come from people who have never attended.

 

I can honsty say out of all the tournament I attended over the ten year. I had three terrible games & one boring game.

 

The reason I go to tournament is purely to battle new armies & oppents. Everone use there armies in diffrent ways, you can give ten people the exsact same army list, but all ten would use it in a diffrent way. So for me gaming wise, it help me learn from battle new oppent. I alway like to learn from my games no matter win, loss or draw, it help push the challenge a bit between you & your gaming group.

Also not just that but the armies you get to battle. As said in round 5 it been agies since I fought Black Templars & the same apply to CHaos Marines.

 

Not just that but you also spend the day or weekend talking with other gamer about the hobby. Talking about diffrent tactic & army list/unit. As said people use there armies diffrent way & help give you idea for your own force.

Since I started going to tournament since Conflict 2002, my gaming & knolwege on this side of the hobby has change a lot over the year. I learnt so much though the practise games & then the games that the tournament it self.

Making the army list is just one part of it, you need to know your army inside & out as well, there strength & weakness, how you will deal with this army or that unit. Why are you taken this unit in your list when that unit can do the same job & cost less point? For exsample I take Obliterators over Havoc because there mobile, able to pick the right weapon for the right job & because I enjoy converting them.

 

For the army list side. For me as long as it legal I will happy battle against it. It all down to the attuide of my oppent really that make the game fun. I pick my armies with units that suit my gaming style & work in the list & what I like to convert.

 

I highly suggest people give tournament a go. If you get a bad oppent, that just one out of how many games? As said I only ever had four bad games in the past ten year, while back in 2006/07 local I had a lot more terrible games in that time alone.

Also when going back to event like Throne of Skulls it great catch up with these oppents & with Bugman bar there getting a few drinks & food talking about the event to come & possible get a few practise games on the Fri before Throne of skulls.

 

Also for the event in Nottingham, it in Warhammer World, home of the hobby we collect. The gaming hall brillaint, bugman bar alway great to go to & seeing thing like the Eavy Metal models in the flesh, the once we see on the box cover or in the White Dwarf/codex/Website. For me I find it great going to Warhammer World during events.

 

I can not wait to attend ToS Oct later this year.

 

Also tournament give you a deadline to finish painting a army. Just for me personial I hate useing unpainted models in the game if I can help it. If I have a unpainted army for a set amount of time I loss intrest. So having a funny painted army for myself just add another leval of greatness to the game.

 

Really enjoy the weekend, have five great games & two practise. Really happy how the Iron Warriors done, with this being the Mk6 version first event.

 

So right now my Iron Warriors next few tournament will be Throne of Skulls October, Stirling Wargamer Rapid Fire & ELG Counter Attack. Be great if "rumour" codex chaos is release by then as well.

 

Think that cover it. Just slow recovering from the travl. Because I went down to Nottingham solo this year & met up with people down there. Left Fri from Edinbrugh for a five hour train down to Nottingham, then a weekend of gaming follow by come back up yesterday in the five hour train & then catch train back to my home town.

Yes I say go for it. As said in 10 year I been attend tournament I only ever had 4 games I did not enjoy, two of which I'd flat out refuse. But beyound that as said back in 2006/07 local gaming it was bad & that out number it.

 

But no matter where you game, you will get good & bad oppent in your store, club or events.

 

Just for tournament I feel they get a bit of a bad light on the fourm with some of the moan. But I had a great time & I really enjoy the hobby. Also all the cool armies you see both model & army list wise, learn new tactical. Also as said people play diffrent battle my round 2 & 4 oppent, both had chaos but played diffrent from me & there style give me some idea to try out on my own army for future games.

The way throne of skulls scoring system works, it encourages people to bring the codex they like, as oppossed to the latest bestest one. There are some competitive lists, but all my opponents were good fun to play against.

 

I would recommend ToS. I've been twice and had loads of fun :rolleyes:

Lol I had forgotten about that roll. When my pallies fight Commander Sasha's skavenids they often roll better when they are reduced to ws1 then when they are at ws5...

 

Looking forward to october Tos, will probably bring my pallies again (though might swap out the DK, decisions decisions), though I have been itching to go back to chaos. Hopefully we will have a new codex by then...

Thanks. Yes as said Throne of Skulls is well worth attending. I have five brillaint games + practise games. All my oppent where brillaint, no one hide, everone went all out. It games like these I really enjoy & they where all hard fought.

Just I like 5th ed as you no longer need to worry about unit hitting 50% which led to people hidding, which led to boring games. It great now even that last grot can swing the game & no one really hide.

 

I can not wait for ToS Oct later this year & the return of my Iron Warriors. Also be a few new trophies added onto my IW base on the games fought above :D

Thanks Tanith Ghost. I alway enjoy useing my Iron Warriors force regardless ;) Just though each codex since Index Astarties day they all offer somthing little diffrent. But it mainly model side as Chaos offer a lot of conversion.

Well - the guy who was next to me most of the time and scored the most victories as the Necrons (he went 4-1 and only lost to the Deathwing overall winner) (though he didn't win best player as another guy got 5 sportsman points!) took:

 

Phaeron with Warscythe, Res Orb and possibly a Phaseshifter - though maybe Mindshackles and other stuff

20 Warriors (Phaeron went here with the Veil tek - for Relentless depstriking shooting shennanigans)

Oh and another guy took a force similar to my mates, but more Mechanised - I remember because his Overlord on Command barge had two red glow sticks converted into Darth Maul lightsaber warscythe! His list was some ghost arks, a couple of Overlord Barges, 3 annhi barges I think.

 

In general - the consensus seemed to be: Annihilation Barges and Wraiths.... then flavour to taste. One guy did have a very 'Old School' force - a Monolith, destroyers and a large foot phalanx, and another guy took (basically) destroyer spam. But they didn't seem to be as successful as the other forces.

 

I didn't see any 'Destroyer Lord+Large Wraith squads' which surprised me - that's a definite factor of my Necron list!

Ha, my army is completely different to those! (well actually not completely different as that would be impossible, but different enough!)

 

I'm using 6 Heavy Destroyers and 5 Wraiths in my Fast Attack slots instead of Scarabs and I've found the army is working better for me.

 

Hopefully I'll have a good time in July :lol:
