Slyfox1990
Hello. So I've always liked Ultramarines, I know that a million people do but hey ho: I don't mind that. In this case I would just like to do it as a painting project. With this in mind I wander what people are doing with the new paints. I've currently started with a Macragge undercoat to armour areas and am doing some Balthasar Gold on trim - I've not gone any further at this time. Any advice on what steps people would take from this point. I was thinking of something along the lines of a lighter/proper gold on top of the Balthasar, and washing recesses black on armour higlighting with a ???? blue. Probably glaze the armour too. Many thanks and sorry for rambling post. Regards, Richard (previously posted on index astartes section by mistake) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/251716-painting-ultramarines/ Share on other sites
KJB
http://www.games-workshop.com/gws/content/...2a§ion= Try having a look on there, maybe an Altdorf Guard Blue layer? Followed by a Blue wash? Slyfox1990
Thanks I have seen the conversion chart but as I'm starting for fresh, rather than transferring colours across it is less useful than I had hoped sadly. Forza St. Pauli
Your eyes can deceive you. Don't trust them I think it's just because of the scan:) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/251716-painting-ultramarines/#findComment-3053529 Share on other sites
Slyfox1990
Thanks for that. I've basically been doing that but hadn't got a defined blue at the time. Akylas
He looks a bit dark for an Ultramarine. I guess as a Chaos/Salamanders fan I'm not much the target for UM painting schemes but I always liked them a bit in brighter blue. I guess for me it emphasized their character difference from many other chapters, and made them look less like Crimson Fists who seemed to have the dark blue marines thing covered. Still a very good paint scheme I can only aspire to come close to someday. Akylas
That's definately what I think of shadewise when I think of Ultramarines. I'll have to keep an eye out for your next thread. Amazing captain in that third link. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/251716-painting-ultramarines/#findComment-3058007 Share on other sites
Captain Idaho
I do worry about when I got back to adding to my Ultramarines and my models having two separate paint schemes! :D This thread and links to others are very useful if I ever need to get new paints. Hopefully not really, because my Ultramarines aren't likely to get any bigger for a while. GW would have to release a new Codex and probably Epic for me to need new paints infact! Dante72
I'm a beginner painter, but I love the Ultramarines and I'm starting with them. I'm at the same point know that the original poster was over a year ago. I want to paint with Macragge Blue as a base and then shade / wash with Drakenhof. The question what's better. fix the armor plates with Macragge and then do highlights with Altdorf and very thin edge highlights with Calgar or go with Altdorf to paint the armor after the shade and just highlight once with Calgar? GrandMagnus
Personally, stay away from any colours with Ultramarine related names. Heres how I do mine: Base coat with Kantor blue. Wash with 1:1 Kantor blue and black mixed with water. Layer with 1:1 Kantor blue and Caledor sky. Highlight with the last mix adding a bit of celestial grey.
