fishyy709
Hey All, I just got into the grim world of 40k wargaming and decided to start with an inquisition/grey knight army because, well, I was in the store to buy a board game and the nemesis dread knight model caught my eye. I picked up the codex, and after some reading of the rules and such, picked up some models and started painting. It quickly became obvious that my inquisition troops were going to be difficult to do. I managed some bolter conversions on the cadian models, however I needed to buy a space marine squad for the bolters, and now all but two of my cadian boltermen have one space marine hand and one normal hand. Any advice for a new player/modeller on making legions of these warrior acolytes? (and pics will be posted in a later thread once i figure out how, and need more advice) Please help? travisb7
First - welcome to the hobby! Bolter conversions aren't too hard - you'll need to carefully cut the lasgun away from the Cadian arms, then remove the pistol grip from the bolters, and glue it in. Instead of buying a $38 box of Marines JUST for the bolters, use eBay Here are some for just under $3 for 10. You can find them around that price all the time. Also, ask fellow hobbyists here if they have extras. They may be willing to give them to you for the cost of shipping them to you, if that. If I had some, I'd send them your way. Another option is looking for the SM Scout bolter arms. Supposedly they fit Cadians quite well. Again, use eBay - you'll kick yourself if you end up spending $80 or $90 for 10 troops with a left over of a ton of bits. Though you could sell the Marine bodies and arms off to another player. Just some suggestions. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/251731-warrior-acolyte-conversion-suggestions/#findComment-3052344 Share on other sites
RolandTHTG
The bolter conversions are even easier to do with the IG Catachan models, as most of the gun arms come with the gun separate, so a bolter can just be glued in. I definitely second looking for just lone bolter bits or asking around your local Game store (SM players tend to acquire extra bolter bits) The SM torsos can be used with IG legs and arms to make carapace armor guys. I also recommend looking at converting your SM squad into GK. Buying a box of the Power armor GK can get you a bunch of extra bits to convert guys. (The falchions in the box are quite well sized for converting onto regular SM to count as regular nemesis swords, and as you then only need 1 sword per model, you get two guys converted for each falchion set.) fishyy709
Thanks a bunch guys! I picked up a set of grey knights in power armour, and they'll certainly help use up some of those excess space marine bits. And thanks for the heads up about the catachans over the cadians, those lasguns with hands attached were much less than ideal. I'm going to look into the scouts conversion ideas as well, I feel like they might be a worthy investment for the various bits. Thanks for helping out the new guy Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/251731-warrior-acolyte-conversion-suggestions/#findComment-3053140 Share on other sites
RolandTHTG
No Problem. I second the problems with Cadian Attached lasguns, I have a full tray full from my IG Army. If you are looking for bits to make your force more individualized, find a local Space Wolf player, and see if you can get some of the bits from his spacewolf upgrade pack. Those come with a ridiculous amount of heads, including several scout heads that fit Guardmen perfectly and can provide a variation in your force.
