StraightSilver
Hi guys, I was pretty sure I had started a plog for this army here but can't seem to find it, so I thought I would start this up in the hope that it will motivate me to get some painting done. Way back in january 2009 I started a 1500pt Ultramarines army, which was part of a "Tale of four gamers" style challenge amongst my gaming group. Unfortunayely at the end of the 12 months the army didn't get finished as planned, and several new armies were started in the interim. However as one of those armies is close to competion I have returned to my Ultras, and discovered that in my huge bits boxes i have enough marines to complete an entire company. As the army originally was painted as 2nd Company I thought it best to stick to that. So here are some pics of the original army from a few years back, and hopefully over the coming months I should have progress of the rest of the Company, unless something shiny grabs my attention before then. A lot of these models are still unfinished, a fair few need bases doing, or weapons / webbing etc finished. Anyway here's where I'm at so far (I know it's nowhere near a full company yet, but I have a lot of time to paint right now so here's hoping). With his Relic Blade and Artificer Armour though he has been a game winner for me on lots of occasions. I have lots more pics to show but don't want to spam everyone and also am mindful of the pic limit, but cheers for looking so far. :) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/251770-2nd-company-ultramarines/ Share on other sites
Kierdale
Very nice! The blue and gold are beautifully highlighted. Also the red on the left shoulder pad. I don't know codex-insignia, is that standard for captains? Is that a combi-melta? One thing I did notice that you could perhaps add: the lens of the bionic eye/targeter-thingy...how about painting it up green? StraightSilver
Cheers Kierdale, yes it is a combi-melta, for some reason though the perspective on the photo makes it look overly sized and a bit weird. I had forgotten I hadn't painted his bionic eye, but yes that will be green, might do that tonight. And yes, I believe the skull in the Ultra symbol on a red background is for Captains, although I guess it differs between companies? I have some more pics to show, again these are quite old now, but still need finishing off. I'm half way there with 3 10 man squads painted, so just 3 more to go. :) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/251770-2nd-company-ultramarines/#findComment-3053026 Share on other sites

StraightSilver
Cheers guys, I must admit I have enjoyed painting them, marines are quite forgiving. Looking back on them though they were a bit rushed, some of the highlighting could have been tidier, but these are primarily a gaming army so I'm not too fussed. The Rhino was actually drybrushed using a GW Tank Brush (which they sadly no longer produce - the round one not the flat one), but any large round headed brush would do the trick. It was then edge highlighted. Few more pics. Fast Attack http://i1018.photobucket.com/albums/af307/MacraggePDF/Ultramarines%20HQ/Ultramarines%20Troops/Ultramarines%20Elites/Ultramarines%20Fast%20Attack/DSC00434.jpg http://i1018.photobucket.com/albums/af307/MacraggePDF/Ultramarines%20HQ/Ultramarines%20Troops/Ultramarines%20Elites/Ultramarines%20Fast%20Attack/DSC00426.jpg http://i1018.photobucket.com/albums/af307/MacraggePDF/Ultramarines%20HQ/Ultramarines%20Troops/Ultramarines%20Elites/Ultramarines%20Fast%20Attack/DSC00423.jpg Again still not finished, but I plan on going back and finishing them off once the tactical Squads are done. Captain Mike
It always amazes me when people make smurfs look good. They've been done so often, after all. Yet these catch the eye very well. Perhaps as a result of this catchiness they look very factory fresh. There's no war in them. Not a criticism, just a comment.
