Lone Wolf Duel

Recommended Posts

Hey,

I had an idea of a duel for months now. Finally I have some time between projects to start it. As always I imagined more that I could handle as a side work - some ideas have to wait for the next project.

That picture was the inspiration. Unwrapped box of Space Wolves Terminators and some Genestealers from Space Hulk made the rest. The idea is simple. Frozen hill/rock/mountain, a deadly environment - Lone Wolf seeking for a fight. I have choosen this particular Genestealer so the duel will have double meaning. The serious one - Lone Wolf is fighting to the death, has lost his helmet, wounded opponent is approaching, in few seconds only one will survive.

The fun part is that it may look like genestealer is giving the helmet to his owner - thats why I want to make the inscription on plate for example: Is this your helmet sir? What do you think? Which aspect you found more appropriate - grim or fun one?

I went with chain fist and storm shield for the equipment - model will be playable and I really love that combination. Terminator armour and storm shield make him really unbreakable and with chain fist he can even open vehicles with AV14.

I started to work on the scenic base. I’ll show you more after the weekend. Probably ;)

Hope you like my little idea.

It's time for a second part of the duel between Lone Wolf and Genestealer.

At the beginning – the was only chaos and disorder.

The base starts to take shape.

After few hours the base is almost finished – only the icicles aren't done yet. After finishing the whole project I will describe with details how I made each element. Do you like it so far?

Can't help but think the diorama is too big for the amount of stuff going on in it, there aren't enough points of interest to keep me looking at the models. Not sure the NMM works either its way too bright for how I imagine a Space Wolf would have his armour, I'm a fan of realistic painted models and not sure its working. I feel this is a good idea and good paint job for the rest of the diorama and with a few tweaks it could be a lot better.

I gotta say, I'm really impressed with the scenery, which is certainly one of my weakest points, and, personal preferences aside, the painting is quite well executed. Not to mention the dedication to the project needed to actually follow through and finish it, something I've never managed for anything more than a single miniature, and even then it's rare. Well done!

As for the action part of the diorama, it's important to remember the importance of dynamic - and natural! - poses, and interaction between the models involved. At the moment, though the Space Wolf is looking at the Genestealer, they seem not to be reacting to each other, rather doing their own thing, and the grim desperation of the scenario which you described in the first post doesn't really shine through. Also look at their interaction with their environment; the Genestealer is stumbling, shouldn't it put out its bottom right hand to catch itself? What would a Genestealer do with a helm? The way its other right hand is positioned, it kinda looks like it's venerating it or something. Furthermore, the Space Wolf's relatively calm pose contradict his psycho eyes, which again contradict his weapon arm; and both of them look more or less like stock figures. For a diorama to truly come together one has to get all these little details to fit together.

As I say, you have the commitment to actually create an entire diorama which is incredibly impressive and which I think you should keep up, because you're well on your way to kick some dioram-ass. See what I did there ;)

tl;dr = rock on and keep practicing! :tu:

Thank you guys for tips! To be honest green stuff is my weak spot - so as your ideas are great I would definetly execute them pretty badly  Even the hand switch for shield (original terminators have shield in their left hand) was a big struggle for me. As for the bright unnatural colours - my next necron project is gonna be as realistic as I can do. Anyway thanks again for the comments!
