Driagowing advice needed

Hi there guys. As with most things nowadays money is in short supply so i consolidated what usable models i had and made for the cheapest army i could manage.

I have alreadt painted a 1750pt army of grey knights and i really enjoyed it so now i want my own elite little force. Trouble is im not too sure what to spend the last few points on. This is what i have already.

HQ- Draigo

Elite- vindicare

Troops 1 - 10 paladins

psybolt ammo

2x psycannons

Troops 2 - 5 paladins

brotherhood banner

psybolt ammo

Fast attack - storm raven

hurricane bolters

psybolt ammo

This leaves me 185 points. Now i want a heavy support option and that really just leaves a psyfleman or a dread knight, and depending on what i choose may leave points to mastercraft the paladins for wound shenanigans. But buying a dreadknight would be the cheapest option here as i would want a forgeworld dread. but i want it to be effective to play with.

Any advise would be great. Thanks

Joe.

Have 185pts left and no money?

should not play w40k . not a good investment when you dont have cash.

but i want it to be effective to play with.

you should run 2 NDKs . a SR does not help a draigowing army much .

also why do you 10 man paladins run with 2 psycannons and your 5 mans with no ?

and do not put banners on Paladin units under 7 man .

The storm raven is a model that was bought for me so it fills a nice chunk. I also had a vindicare lying around and bought Draigo.

When i say no cash please read Two kids and getting married in october. :)

Its tactics and list building i need the advice on as im pretty poor at playing.

So if i shift the brotherhood banner over and buy a psycannon for the 5 man, that will leave me with 165 points.

And i dont have the points for 2 NDK so one with heavy incinerator leaving me able to master craft one weapon, maybe a psycannon?

Im not a competitive gamer so just need to know what to fill the gaps with without buying something that is no fun to play with. I painted two NDK's for my last commission so im guessing that they are pretty cool to game with?

My NDKs as I usually run them are 295pts each.

Sword, Teleporter, Incinerator, and Gatling Psilencer.

Grand master makes 1 scoring or scouting minimum. So with an aggressive deployment you can get a turn one assault with them with scouts. This also allows you to unload a lot of fire power in a short amount of time into a unit.

Not maxing out your psycannons is one problem. Those (4) Str 7 rending shots per weapon are disgusting. Immobilizing an opposing LR on turn one is always great.

Drop the Assassin and the Stormraven.

Get two NDKs and maximize your wound allocation on the paladins. Should be around a 690pt squad with maximized wound tricks and 10 bodies. If you have left over points get a Librarian to add in or something along those lines.

You're going to spend some money to do it, but you should be able to rock and roll with the right models.

Also, if you want to get good at playing an elite army, play Deathwing until you can play to a draw or win a few games. Then step back to Draigowing. You'll love your life.

Grand Masters (Including Draigo) give Grand Strategy - If you're not using it now you need to look into it.

d3 units get your choice of: Scoring, Scouts, Counter-Attack, or re-roll (1s) to wound.

In objective games scoring NDKs are NASTY.

Any other time you probably want to give them Scouts and deploy aggressively. 12" deployment, 12" scout move, 12" move, 6" assault. In most games that aren't Dawn of War you can get a T1 assault.

Best,

Paul

you should max psycannons on all pallies giving you six in total the bits come in the termie box so you should have enough. I think it is pretty well proven that NDK aren't very good for their cost, especially at that 295pt loadout thats a whole 5 extra paladins. for 185 points I'd get all those psycannons and a dread, if you ahve some spare points make the dread venerable so you can use grand strat to make it scoring. Also Psybolt on a storm raven isn't always the best idea as the bolters become strength 5 and can no longer be used as defensive weapons.

Crynn
