Starting an Adeptus Mechanicus Army

Well, I decided to succumb to the calling of the Omnissiah and start up an Adeptus Mechanicus army. I will be using the GK codex, using it to showcase the variety of units available to the armies of the Machine-god.

My first step has been to build a dual-autocannon dreadnought. I ended up going with Contemptor legs, an Ogre torso, and lots of green stuff and cables to make him a proper biomachine. So this is what I have done so far:

Feedback and suggestions are welcome.

I love the ogre/dreadnought conversion....very AdMech ;)

- how will you connect the admech fluff to the GK codex though? who represents Skitarii, etc.... I just curious, not trying to rain on your parade, I really want to run an admech army as well and want to get an idea how others are running them. I had always just planned on using the regular old SM codex.

why a henchmen army though?

- arent Skitarii comprable to a space marine in terms of firepower, strength, and effectiveness in combat? At least thats what the novel Titanicus made me believe. If a "horde" army was what someone is after, wouldnt Imperial Guard be a better fit? Then storm troopers and ogryns could fill the role of Skitarii.

The problem is that Skitarii vary widely in fluff sources - probably each forgeworld has very individualised troops? Some are definitely closer to Guard (e.g. the ones in Dark Apostle?), whereas Titanicus has those mad berserkers that are closer to orks or arco-flagellants or assault marines or something? And then there are other Mechanicus troops - Protectors, for example, have been seen in lots of the Horus Heresy books? Personally I use CSM, I have power-armoured bolter-equipped skitarii as plague marines and more feral assault-armed skitarii as khorne berserkers.

But yes, the Grey Knight Henchmen are packed with cool Mechanicus possibilities. Warriors are Dark Apostle-style skitarii, Arco-Flagellants are Titanicus-style skitarii, Jokaero are techpriests with experimental weaponry, DCA could be Mechanicus assassins or Protectors or something. Then you have dreads for big robot/machine/things, dreadknights as knights... Choices, choices!

I think Grey Knights has the best potential to fully represent the diverse range of troops available to the Mechanicum.

Skitarii can range from basic troops with guard stats, to the more augmented heavy weapon bearing troops (which would be the MEQ). C:GK would let me field both guard and space marine troops to represent that range. Being able to field Knights is a pretty nice touch as well. The different henchmen will make it easy to represent the very different specialists as well.

good points D & mitey....

- if you use a GK "henchmen" Coteaz type army....then you can have a squad or two of just guys with warrior stats that are pretty low ranking admech troops with out many ad mech upgrades.....Then you just rename a normal GK marine squad as some supped up Skitarii, and terminators can be really really supped up skitarii, and so on.

Got the parts for my second Dreadnought today.

I picked up the Adepticonstruct model at Adepticon, and ordered some Puppet's War dreadnought arms for it. I think those two combine pretty well:

Very cool, I think I prefer those arms to the originals!

Got some more pictures of the Adeptinought:

Only thing that bothers me is the difference in the barrels. After looking at them some more I think I may be able to file the round lip on the left one down a bit to make it match the other one. Got a PM to the manufacturer, so hopefully I will get some answers.

I've been thinking of an admech army and never could find a suitable model to represent skitarii until i was browsing forge world and they have the ideal model for skitarii
