Space Wolves and the Deathwatch

Recommended Posts

I am in the process of putting together a Deathwatch kill team and was planning to include a Grey Hunter and Long Fang in the 10 man unit. I just wanted to double check with yourselves that the SWs would have a strong enough relationship with the Inquisition for this to happen? I can't see the problem as the SW mutation appears to be fairly stable unlike that of the Blood Angels for example. Any info would be much appreciated.

Theyre also one of the first chapters included in the Deathwatch RPG, if that counts for anything with you.

normally you save the best for last, but a space wolf would kill you if you werent the first grouping being the best. unless we are at the end of the firsts, then thats a double win. like charlie sheen kind of winning with tiger blood.

Does any one here remember the story where a group of Marines are sitting down telling tales of their homeworlds so that they can understand one another better? I cannot recall for the life of me if that is in the Second Edition Codex or an earlier WD... I just remember that the Salamander had finished and then a Long Fang stood up and started his tale.

Members that serve in the DW are generally more highly disciplined regardless of Chapter. As it pertains to the Space Wolves, i would be vey unlikely that a Blood Claw would serve as they are still grapeling wih their inner wolf. In addition, those with Mark of the Wulfen would probably be difficult tojustify. Not imposible, just harder to justify fluff-wise. An older Grey Hunter and certainly a verteran Long Fang would be fairly easy to justify serving in the DW. More in control of their inner wolf over the many decades of service asa Space Wolf as well as hving a deeper level of battle experience to suit the mission of the DW. They need veteran warriors who are exemplary within their Chapter. It is a great honor to serve in the DW and that part fits right in with what is at the core of being a Space Wolf and a desendant of Russ.

Don't forget the pics.

Yes, I've got that around here somewhere. Will provide it if I find it.

EDIT: Found it; page 25 of the 3rd Edition Space Wolves "minidex". Turns out, these Marines weren't detailed to the Deathwatch after all; they were temporarily affiliated with a Rogue Trader fleet.

Thanks for all the replies guys. I've finished the 1st Kill-team and am just waiting for their DW shoulder pads and bolters to arrive. I've settled on one SW in the end - he's a Grey Hunter model that I've armed with a Lascannon and just wanted to clear something up;

I want to put him in Logan Grimnar's Great Company. However Codex: Space Wolves appears to conflict on which symbol to use - on page 80 it seems to say that once a Wolf Lord became Great Wolf, ALL of his Company change their symbol to the The wolf that stalks the stars, whereas on page 14 it seems to indicate that only specialised personnel such at Dreadnoughts and Wolf Priests wear the Great Wolf symbol.

Any advice would be great.

So what was the Long Fang's tale?
