So, reading through these pages I mainly find fantastic artists doing extraordinary work. I think it's about time for a little change! To get myself painting, I have decided to make a little thread showing off my progress.

A long time a go I painted some fantasy models, and they turned out OK. Painting was fun and all, but with noone to play or discuss with my hobby soon found itself on the top shelf in my closet. Later I wanted a ps3 (I was 16, don't judge) so I sold off all my fantasy stuff on a Norwegian warhammer forum. Turned out, the 20 teutogen (empire, now rare) guard I bought because my local store didn't have great swords fetched a fine sum of money.

After lurking the forum a bit, I came across some guy who wanted to sell two sets of SM from AoBR + all the dice, books and other stuff from one set for 85usd (aprox). And thats how I ended up painting space marines.

The theme for my army is a couple of guys hanging out on a dessert plannet boring their minds out. I dont take great joy in reading fluff, so fluffers, be aware!

Preview of some of the stuff that I have painted so far:

WOW! thats fast!

lets see here..

Although im using vanilla codex, I didn't intend on making them ultra marines. Hope ultramarine players dont get too offended :)

This freehand stuff is so far limited to the termies. I am planning some other shenanigans, but spoiling them now would be boring.

Sergeants face is on it's way!

painting notes:

I'm not comfortable with lenses and painting white yet, so I'm trying to leave as thin layers as possible where they are so that i can come back and touch up at a later date. Right now I just want to build me an army!

The skin I painted using Tallarn flesh, gryphonne sepia, some dwarf flesh that I think might be older than me (screw top) and elf flesh. The guy at the GW had no faith that it would work, but I think I pulled it off quite exquisitely. I think I might have glazed the pimple that all the ultramarines seam to have on their face with some sort of red, sadly I cant recall.

EDIT: I had planned to make the writing on the armour look like their own work. Something they did while they were sitting around counting pebbles.

Top tip for your bases, dip them in some heavily watered down PVA glue (to the consistency of skimmed milk) That way you won't gradually lose all the sand and pebbles off your bases!

Those 'pimples' are metal service studs, but now you say it pretty please do up an acne covered scout, it'd be hilarious.

Cheers,

Jono

Acne you say.. hmm interesting. I will try to do that.

Edit reason: Dug myself into a hole I couldn't get out of. To anyone who read it, let's never talk about it again

That face came out really nice and sounds similar to the way I do mine, so I'm guessing the guy at GW was probably just trying to shill you the new paints by saying the old ones were crap

Some nice paintwork overall, but damn your eyes sir for your total disregard for the holy fluff ;)

Nice looking force you have there. In particular I like how you've done the Terminator Sgt's face. The 'pimple' as other s have said is a service stud, but I fin it amusing that you painted it as a pimple

Still, quite a nice force. Have you got people in your area that play? Might help keep you interested in the hobby if you can find a local gaming centre.

Great idea! I'm actually having some problems with sand falling off. Does the glue show?

I red some about those service studs, and thats pretty insane!

A single stud implanted into the skull represents one hundred years of service. Veteran Sergeants typically have at least one, and command staff may sport two or three. Obviously, the more you have, the more respect you get. Surviving a hundred years of constant warfare is quite an achievement, even for a Marine.

The practice isn't universal, or else Dante would look like Frankenstein by now.

Ok, so to the news. I'm confronting my fear of lenses and white and am currently painting some scout snipers. The white is done, and to be honest I'm not happy about how it turned out. The last layer of pure skull white just didn't want to sit right. When I tried to dilute the paint, my brush just dumped all of it on the model and it swam out and into the gaps. So I ended up stripping my first model and doing it over again with undiluted paint and here is the result so far:

Clumpy and uneven... ugh not good for painting morale

Oh and to people preparing to paint scout snipers: dont glue the guns on before painting the faces. Bad idea :cuss

Forgotten thread, lost to ages:

arise and return to the frontmost pages.

So I finally found the time to finish my scout snipers. The blue areas are a bit too dark for my taste, and I think I might do some additional highlighting on the black and metal areas.

I think I'll start my next project in about 2 weeks after my holiday. Ill be making some sternguard veterans out of harlequins. Also Im buying an airbrush, so I will be experimenting with that too. Anyone know how i should fit out the sternguard? I was thinking going combi melta with a blink librarian in drop pod, but with the new edition I'm not so sure.
