One Lonely Assault Marine

Recommended Posts

I was sitting around at lunch and decided to throw this little guy together out of some parts I had hanging around. I think I'll paint him up in Raven Guard colors in honor of 'Deliverance Lost' which I just finished.

So far part wise he consists of the follow:

BA Death Company Head

Space Wolf Chainsword arm

Standard Bearer pole arm from command sprue

Bolt pistol from assault marine box

Devastator legs (at least I think they come from the dev box)

FW Mk V chest

FW Mk III Shoulder Guard

I'll finish cleaning the mold lines...those legs are probably the worst in the entire space marine range! Maybe add a greenstuff loin cloth and some purity seals.

Nice pose. Looks to me like he just landed and is taking some pot shots before running headlong into the foe. Nice mix of bits as well. Think he might need some friends ;)

@Brother Syth: That's how I originally planned him. I've always wanted to use the kneeling legs for that purpose since I kind of imagine an assault marine crashing out of the sky and smashing to the ground. I agree, I think he might need some friends. Might be time to place a forgeworld order for some Raven Guard upgrade sprues!

@Dizzy-xc: Just wait, I think his buddies will be standing on some dead xenos or traitors.

@Dark Link: I pulled a studded shoulder pad out to complete the mish mash of older armor MKs. The bases are from Dragon Forge Design. I love his work and all his different bases are very high quality. Beats making my own bases!

Thank you all for the nice comments. Keep my inspired! No updated picture just yet because I realized I was out of greenstuff. I'll stop by my LGS tonight and grab some and put try to put a loin cloth on him and fill some holes.

Just finished greenstuffing the loin cloth and his space wolf hand. I tried to give the loin cloth some texture but my greenstuffing skills aren't so great. I didn't want it to look torn or ripped so I left it in one piece. I also covered the Space Wolf runes on his chainsword arm and removed the grip I had added. Instead I think I'm going to replace it with the grip from a space Grey Knight sword to give it a bit more excitement.

I'm going to slap some purity a few purity seals on his before all is said and done as well. I might greenstuff a large flowing purity seal on his left should guard. But I don't want to get too carried away for a regular battle brother.

C&C Welcome!

good lord you make me want Assault marines,

Too bad the DA codex entry for them sucks BLEEP BLEEP BLEEP

I'm pretty sure assault marines are lame for both DA and C:SM. :D But, I aim to make this dude look badass just before he dies!

Quick update. I decided to greenstuff the chainsword hilt since I couldn't really find anything to extend it in a manner I wanted. My greenstuff skills are meager but the only way I'll get better is if I keep practicing!

Once everything dries I'll put on the purity seals and get him base coasted and and underway with the paint.

Update time!

It's really hard to see in these pictures (I apologize for the bad quality. I'll get my real camera out at some point) but I have painted the armour. It came out very nicely and it's a very deep looking black to me. I added some color depth to it by mixing Abbadon Black and Eshen Grey. Highlights to follow this weekend.

Primarily this update is about the skin tone of the marines head. I'm very pleased with the color I achieved. I imagine Raven Guard being very pale and I believe Corax is described that way. I based my color choices of ADB's description of Night Lords skin tone and Korvydae by Forge World. I made his flesh very pale and was trying to achieve an almost marble like color. I might had another wash thats a mix of Nuln Oil and Reikland Flesh to finish it off.

Enough rambling and on to the pics!

I found a little time to paint over lunch and decided to start adding some color. Sorry for the horrible quality pics...

Washed his face is Drakenhof Nightshade and applied a thin layer of pallid flesh, pallid flesh + white scar, followed by a tiny bit of white scar. I'm starting to feel like he looks like a vampire count more than a defender of the Imperiu. No work done on his hair yet.

I'm waiting for the washes to dry on the exposed metal areas and the purity seals/cloth.

I've decided he'll be a member of second company so I'll need to figure out how to do gold with the new paints. Anyone have a good recipe?

C&C welcome!
