Huge94
Hi there So I just started a small CSM force and am looking for a really weathered, wartorn look. I have painted my first rhino, but can't say that I'm really happy with it. I followed many tutorials I found, but can'T seem to be getting the result I really wanted. Anyway, here are the pics, please comment on them, it would really help me out! Badaab
Well its hard to tell from the pictures as they're small... but I'll give it a go: Looks like you've applied the paint in the correct colors, etc, but the damage and weathering appears haphazard. The paint chips and scratching would occur in naturally raised areas or in and around working parts of the vehicle, and the dust/dirt/grime would accumulate in areas that would have more contact with the ground or are natural collection points for this. As for rust, that would build around the battle damage (if its older damage), and around areas of thinner metal (ie exhaust). While I'm far from an expert in vehicle painting myself (as I really dislike painting them... so large), I'd suggest having a look at actual military vehicle pictures from the field. And, failing that, there's bound to be some construction going on nearby where you can have a look at the heavy equipment (I find this is more beneficial, as these vehicles tend to be scratched up and already a brighter color than most military vehicles. Plus, tanks and troop transports are often looked after better than the civilian construction equipment left at sites). Just some thoughts, and good luck going forward. -Joe Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/252099-need-help-weathering-with-paints/#findComment-3057374 Share on other sites
Huge94
Hi! Thanks for the comment. For the damage, I really made them with combat in mind. I mean that they are damage from battle and not from use. This is why they appear at odd places. As for the rust, I agree that they are likely to appear in some places, but seeing as I want a VERY old rust, a rust that shouldn't be appearing normally in the lifespan of a vehicle, I figured that it would be pretty much all over the place. something along those lines, but with more metal showing through: http://wwwdelivery.superstock.com/WI/223/1566/PreviewComp/SuperStock_1566-535368.jpg I just thought I would explain better what I wanted to do! EDIT: I've posted bigger pics in the OP!
