dagerg
Hi all, First time posting - apologies if this has been asked before or if there's easy access to this somewhere else. I'm looking to finish off an ambitious (well, ambitious for me) conversion of the Games Workshop plastic Daemon Prince model - specifically I'm making it a Nurgle daemon prince. One of the things I'm trying to do is make it very Nurgle looking (naturally), and I thought having a large scythe as it's weapon would fit the bill. Problem is that I'm having a hard time finding a scythe bit that is big enough - think "Mortarion" size scythe being held with one hand. I've seen versions where a Tyranid scything talon was used and is not really the look I'm looking for - I'm looking for that "grim reaper" look, and not so much "organic". I'm in the process of planning out a custom scythe made of plasticard, but I'd rather go with something that is already made, preferably in plastic or metal (preferably not resin, my luck with chipping/breaking resin isn't so good). Any idea where I can find such a thing? Thanks in advance for any/all help. Belchuil
Try the bottom two, bit pricey though.. Scythes Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/252151-nurgle-daemon-prince-scythe/#findComment-3060050 Share on other sites
The_Chaplain
Also a bit pricey, but I'm sure many converters would be willing to buy the rest of the kit for use in chaos armies. http://privateerpress.com/warmachine/galle...mator-scaverous Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/252151-nurgle-daemon-prince-scythe/#findComment-3060284 Share on other sites
Retributis
Why not use the scything talon as a base and green stuff/plasticard it into whatever you want? Brother Ambroz
I know you said you didn't want to use a scything talon but if you GS in the organic looking areas and glue it to the blade portion of the DP kit's axe it should turn out pretty well. Alternatively you could use plasticard and just cut that into the shape of a scythe, I've seen alot of nurgle princes like that. dagerg
Those are good suggestions, I will look into those. I have been doing more scouring, and finding things of interest. I will look at those guys definitely - I wish I could get a good sense of scale, as that seems the biggest drawback to what I'm doing without trying to make my own out of plasticard - I just don't really have a good idea of how big those scythes are. I also saw this guy - anyone ever use this guy for a conversion (either the scythe or the wings?) I am actually really starting to dig those wings for my DP: http://www.fantization.com/theolddeathwwin...cythex1fig.aspx For the record, the scythe is going to go on this guy: http://www.crankyoldgamer.net/img/miniatures/40k/chaos/daemon_prince_2/007.jpg http://www.crankyoldgamer.net/img/miniatures/40k/chaos/daemon_prince_2/008.jpg http://www.crankyoldgamer.net/img/miniatures/40k/chaos/daemon_prince_2/009.jpg Thanks! http://www.crankyoldgamer.net Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/252151-nurgle-daemon-prince-scythe/#findComment-3060392 Share on other sites
dagerg
I took Tanith Ghost's suggestion and made a plasticard scythe for my Nurgle Daemon Prince. It turned out pretty ok, and I took the liberty of making some nurgly wings out of a pair of Island of Blood WFB Griffon wings (carved em up and made some rotting flesh hanging off of them). http://www.crankyoldgamer.net/img/miniatures/40k/chaos/daemon_prince_2/011.jpg More details here: Cranky Old Gamer - Nurgle Daemon Prince Feedback welcome! Jofus
That looks very nice, my only suggestion now would to add some pits along the flat sides and some notches in the cutting edge. The wings look very nice to from what I see. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/252151-nurgle-daemon-prince-scythe/#findComment-3083771 Share on other sites
dagerg
Thanks! I was a little leary of creating my own scythe but it turned out pretty well. I could see adding some pits and some adornment as well as a side-handle to finish it up. The wings were interesting - I scoured the internet for good *feathered* rotting wings of the right size and really came up with nothing. There are some wings that GW makes for the Fantasy Battles range (I think for Carrions or something), but they just seemed too chunky and a little off. So I took the plunge and carved up some Fantasy Battles Island of Blood High Elf Griffon wings. They turned out better than I expected. Still lots of detail work to go but he's getting close. So many projects.... Cranky Old Gamer Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/252151-nurgle-daemon-prince-scythe/#findComment-3086850 Share on other sites
