Master Commander Ajax
Well I searched the forums and found plenty on stripping paint but I have a different problem. I need to strip the paint from a Power-sword and leave the rest of the model intact. Its plastic so I'm wary of using nail polish. Any ideas? T14
Invest in a razor saw (or better yet a photo etched razor saw blade), cut off the sword, strip it in simple green and glue it back on with polystyrene cement. Master Commander Ajax
Thanks for replying. Unfortunately the hilt is rounded and I'm too scared of damaging the model to try this. Aren't there any chemicals I can brush on? Mac_Atk
Brush on some Simple Green? I'd hang the model so that it does not drip onto an area where it doesn't below. I have no idea how long it would take. I suspect a dozen "washes" and a toothbrush to aid in the removal of the paint. Why not just prime with grey or black over the paint that is on the sword and cover the undesirable color(s)? Razblood
Acetone Free nail polish is perfectly fine on plastic, that would be what I'd use. AdeptusDavidus
The easiest way would probably be a Simple Green dip. Suspend the model in the right orientation to put just the blade into the solution, and let it sit for a while. As for how to suspend it, I'd use something like this (which is a wonderfully useful tool for all sorts of things, and pretty cheap, so well worth having around). Master Commander Ajax
I think I'm gonna try the nail polish remover. Someone on another forum suggested a kitchen cleaner aswell. I already reapplied a basecoat over an earlier attempt which is the reason why the paint is so thick so thats a no go. YoungWolf7
Brush on Dawn Power Dissolver. It's thick enough to stay put and is perfectly safe on plastics. mr tough guy
If it's just the blade I'd consider just scraping off the paint with a scalpel, lot cleaner then trying to strip it Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/252152-stripping-paint-from-only-part-of-a-model/#findComment-3062826 Share on other sites
nurglespuss
+1 on the scalpel. Careful scraping away from the model would work well. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/252152-stripping-paint-from-only-part-of-a-model/#findComment-3062889 Share on other sites
