What would you want to play as?

Just for fun...

So far there have been 2 action games set in the 40k universe, and the tradition seems to be that the player is cast as a generic warrior of whatever race the game focuses on... Firewarrior's been done. Space Marine's been done... What next?

So what troop would you like another 40k game to focus on? Necrons? Eldar guardians?

How about a genestealer? it would be like playing a 40k version of pac-man! Only, the 'dots' (people) would run away from you, and if you kill something deliciously powerful, you gain the power to eat the Space Marines hunting you down! :)

I would like to play as the Dies Irae.

No but really I think I agree a guardsman would be pretty cool. I'd also like to play as a genesteale or some kind of gaunt. Only problem with a genestealer is that it'd probably be just like playing as an alien in AVP.

I would relish the chance to be a regular gaurdsman footslogging through huuuuuuge battles, or maybe a stormtrooper... If not them a Grey Knight. They would be bad ass.

Ever play Star Wars battlefront? Now I'm picturing a 40k version...

someone make it now!!!

Battlefront twas my fave game as a child.. ahh the nostolgia... bit weird being nostalgic considering im only 15 ^_^

What about being a roughe trader in Fallout 3 style rpg? You would build up your forces through diplmacy/force take up contracts, explore worlds at your leisure. THAT WOULD BE COOL!

Or an RPG where you're an Inquisitor. You'd have to recruit a retinue, gain a reputation. and by your actions/inactions become one of the various Inquisitor "Types" (Thorian etc), which affect the ending(s).

I've always been more of an RPG player than a FPS (although I do like Space Marine. Haven't had chance to get that far on it yet thought, even though I've had the game since Christmas! )

It would be awesome to play as Marneus Clagar. Mowing down enemies with his two underslung boltguns and power punching them with the two powerfists. All while slamming opponents Calgar's voice over is casually voxing instructions to the rest of the Chapter and to different companies to direct their actions in a global campaign, not letting the fighting distract him from commanding the global campaign at all. When the player is taken out, a squad of Terminators or Veterans teleports in and forms a protective circle around the Chapter Master, and an Apothecary heals him back up.

I think that had Space Marine been like SW:Battlefront (2), it would have been far better. I mean in both aspects, BF's campaign and multiplayer.

That's not to say I don't like Space Marine (and the moment I'm home from university in July I can't wait to play with the B&C boys!), I just felt that being limited to 3 classes, and no vehicles was pretty... >meh<. I've found that if you're not playing with friends (and laughing your head off at the same time!), it gets pretty repetitive.

I think if Fantasy flight's games were made into some sort of RPG-come 1st/3rd person shooter thing, it would be great. (Think fallout or Skyrim)

Rather than playing as the Inquisitor, you play as an acolyte - with a few computer controlled allies (hopefully with better AI than your followers in Fallout...)

You could do 2 or 3 versions of the game, the non power armour games (Dark Heresy & RT, with elements of Black Crusade) and the astartes version - a mix of Deathwatch and Black Crusade. Obviously the main flaw in my plan is the lack of playable xenos, but I'll leave that to be sorted by someone who actually knows about them.

If there had to be a multiplayer element ( ;) ), you could band together online and form an actual retinue (and hope it doesn't become too much like WoW with bolters).

I think it'd be pretty cool to create your character and play for a short period of time before you meet the inquisitor and eventually get hired for one reason or another - then play through the story, and watch as you progress. The arbiter who doesn't play by the rules, the techpriest convicted of some minor theological infraction, etc...

Give me a chance to play as a techpriest or techmarine, and I'll bow down and worship your game for eternity. Or until I get RRoD. :)

I kknow Kill Team lets you play as a techmarine, but its not the most engaging representation...

Mech's have been troubled by a long... long... long dry spell for first person shooters.

I would have to say the vulcan mega bolters viewed from the command throne of a titan stomping through a battle field would be hard to beat in my book.

This. An inquisitor is the perfect character for an RPG. Thinking more Mass Effect style. Going round the galaxy recruiting a team, rooting out cults or xenos on different planets. So much scope to get the wider background of the universe in rather than just here's a gun, blow stuff up.

Also might work as an mmorpg. Teaming up with other inquisitors to take enemies down. Or pvp between radicals, thorians etc

I reckon it would be pretty fun to play an Ork Mek in a Borderlands style game (only with more kludging... Borderlands meets Dead Rising?).

For more serious games though... it might be pretty cool to play an Arbite fighting against a Genestealer cult infestation. ^^

Start in a Knight, with a unit. The rest of your unit dies (except maybe a single squadmate) and you get to jump to commanding a Warhound each. When the other Warhound gets blown up, she's badly injured and becomes your Moderati in a Reaver... that idea has good progression and the plot practically writes itself. ^^
