What would you want to play as?

I would kill to play as an Imperial Commissar. That game would get dark pretty fast though. You would build up your squad, and each unit would have a moral value...yeah, that would never get made, and wouldn't work very well. Still, something a little less impersonal than Space Marine. Maybe an X-Com/Fallout Hybrid, with you working your way up the chain of command in the Imperial Guard?
Start in a Knight, with a unit. The rest of your unit dies (except maybe a single squadmate) and you get to jump to commanding a Warhound each. When the other Warhound gets blown up, she's badly injured and becomes your Moderati in a Reaver... that idea has good progression and the plot practically writes itself. ^^

Really like this idea. Could always make it Kinect/Move compatible for added enjoyment.

I would love to have a game that follows the progression of an individual Astartes. Start out as an Aspirant and work through all the stages ending with a hero of the chapter and ultimately an honored ancient encased in a Dreadnought. Not as in depth as an RPG but still allow customization such as Chapter, Name, facial structure, skin tone. Maybe different decisions reward the player with different roles and even a stint in the DW. Just my opinion though.

Failing that, an IG game would be really awesome. Imagine the size of the battles you could fight.

Not FPS or RPG related, but I would be interested in seeing a 40k game in the vein of Total War. No idea as to how you would pull it off, but Id buy it.

Mech's have been troubled by a long... long... long dry spell for first person shooters.

I would have to say the vulcan mega bolters viewed from the command throne of a titan stomping through a battle field would be hard to beat in my book.

If they make them epic-scaled (like in some art) that would be an insta-win.

I really liked space marine the game, I would have to back up some other people in here.

The 40k universe is huge and as such I think any game should have a progressive plot (not like the space marine weaponry progression) but more along the lines career progression, pick any race (marines for me though beign an ork and watching yourself grow from boy to nob to boss would be cool) and the plot takes care of it's self. It could be played out in the manner that the Ragnar blackmain story is told, veteran tempering the new reminiscing on previous epic battles.

Side note as I am sitting here typing this out a second idea just hit me, you start off as a young teen on a world I am envision fallout/gta meets fable/skyrim and based on your decisions you are drafted by gangers, astrates, guard, inquisition or fall into chaos (and for female gamers replace astrates with the battle sisters)

Guest Vortex

Barring the obvious like a Greater Daemon to rampage around as butchering helpless mortals, I'd quite like a Commissar. Charging into battle, sabre drawn, looking stylish in that peaked cap, executing underlings at the first sign of sass. I couldn't really ask for anything more.

Or failing that, perhaps an ordinary human psyker. It'd be like one of those thriller-type games (along the lines of Heavy Rain or Fahrenheit/Indigo Prophecy) where you're a rogue psyker, a pariah of the community with little or no control over your powers and how they affect you and your surroundings. You only started manifesting these abilities recently and you still don't quite grasp what's happening to you as you desperately try to avoid execution at the hands of the Inquisition and its agents whilst gradually descending into madness.

...And then at the end a playable Greater Daemon bursts out of your head to wreak havoc on those Inquisitorial scumbags for making you suffer throughout the whole game. -_-

What I think would be great would be a 40k "4X" game (explore, expand, exploit, and exterminate) based around the Great Crusade. Basically you are the Warmaster, but instead of commanding on the ground, you control the fleets of the Great Crusade, decide where they go, manage compliance and coordinate reinforcements to the various expeditionary forces. So I guess it is a bit like Sins of a Solar Empire, just with a bit more direction and depth. Its probably a bit too much a niche game to be realistically made, but a man can dream...

That, or an Inquisitor RPG set in a large world, like a hive, rooting out heresy and solving crimes and all that good stuff

i see a lot of people, like me, loves fallout!

i'd like to see an rpg on a daemon world, where you start out as a basic human/mutant and work your up the hierarchy. depending on your choices you could end up a mutant warlord, a possessed or even a traitor astartes. you could implement fights against guardsmen and loyalist astartes by having an imperial crusade hit the daemon world.

or a game where you start as an ork yoof, and gradually grows bigger until you become a warboss.

I'd quite like to see a game where you play as Eldar. A single player (with obvious multiplayer option for those that want it).

The story would be the council has put together a squad of Aspect Warriors from the different shrines to save the craft world form destruction/death/running out of toilet roll/whatever makes a good story. Each aspect has strengths and weaknesses that you need to take advantage of throughout the story to progress. Not that you need to do this, you could simply storm your way through it as a Banshee, but it does make it seriously 'challenging' if you don't.

It could either be you alone, switching characters at set points, or your squad is always with you, but you can switch between the members at any point, which could allow for many co-op opportunities!

Or, you could be really cheesy and just go for a Street Fighter style fighting game (fluff right out the window!) B)

I personally thnk it would be fun to play as gaunt and the ghosts with a campaign where you have interlinking storylines of the various main characters. the plots are already written and there would be a good mix between intrigue and shooting. the multiplayer could be reall cool if you had 20V20 games with vehicles etc
I would be nice to have something like Mass Effect/ Dragon Age where you are a Inquisitor and you start out choosing your specialty, and down the line of the game pick up allies to fight along side you. With the good or bad option you can either end up loyal or a renegade. Plus it would allow for customization of male or female, and facial features like in Mass Effect/ Dragon Age. Now that would be a good game!!

an immersive RPG based on you being a Deathwatch Marine. Like the books, you start out and then progress in knowledge and power, and status, and prestige.

Why? cause you would be a SM, have a rediculous number of customization opportunites for chapter and specialty/skills, tons of cool weapons that you could further customize, and you can fight ANY enemies in the 40k universe, and you can have all kinds of missions like search and destory, cleanse, guard duty, investigation, assassination, sabotage, etc., and you could get in on all the inquisitor stuff with those mysteries and backstabing and intruige, the list goes on.

If GW would just take the stuff they did for the RPG books, and make it into a game (math included), it would be so unspeakably awsome....

Playing as an Imperial Guardsman would be cool, there could be opportunities to get in vehicles like Battlefield 3, and the scope of the battles could be epic

I'm also likeing the Eldar idea, that would be awesome. Start by playing as a Guardian, and have the plot centre around 7 or 8 Eldar, starting you off as a the Guardian and then at various points playing as different Aspect Warriors as the story unfolds. Throw in a bit of Jetbike riding and and some other bits and it could be awesome.

Death Korps of Krieg. Oh god..a trench warfare themed Death Korps of Krieg FPS (multiplayer only of course, AI are as bad as Xenos ;) ) that focuses heavily on teamwork, with Commissar, Heavy Weapons and Lasgun roles available. afafafafafafafafa :D

I would certainly say I'm in favor of a 40K game where there is character progression and a well textured story. That was my large complaint about Space Marine, Soulstorm and Dark Crusade is that their story was not all as engaging as they could have been. There is so much space in the universe to bring in a really brilliant story. So an RPG would be really good, seeing as the Space Marines are the most typical and commonly used perhaps an Inquisitor or Eldar RPG. I would so pay for that.

I wouldn't care what I was playing as, as long as the game was a good FPS. I'm talking serious graphics, gore, plenty of cinematic moments etc. Kinda of like the (and I hate to say it) COD or Battlefield campaigns but set in 40k. It would need to be hard, fast and include some form of brutal melee combat (Dishonored is the best FPS melee I've seen so far), preferably with plenty of blood and screaming and general 40k messiness.

Failing that I would like an actual, honest to god, turn based Warhammer 40k top down table top game but on PC. Build your army from a list (paint them if you want) and play proper turn based battles based on the full rule set but just with some cool animations of the units.

I would relish the chance to be a regular gaurdsman footslogging through huuuuuuge battles, or maybe a stormtrooper... If not them a Grey Knight. They would be bad ass.

Ever play Star Wars battlefront? Now I'm picturing a 40k version...

someone make it now!!!

Ill second that!

I'd love to be an Inquisitor, in a Deus Ex style game. Something where you're given options on how to approach the game and how to build your character. You would be able to make a stealth-based character, a combat monster, or a psyker (or some combination of these). And there would be a 'morality' scale that goes from Puritan to Renegade, and gives different advantages depending on where you are on the scale (Renegades can use Xenos or Demon weapons, that sort of thing).
