I've finished my Winged Chaos Lord! I actually went into the local GW to finish this, which was apparently a good idea as I had a brief catch-up with a gaming chum and got to discuss techniques with a few bods while listening to frantic arguments on the gaming table. Ah, good times.

Rahab Goretalon, Hordemaster of the Doomseekers' Raptor cults, a black-hearted murderer with unquenchable ambition and a thirst for anarchy.

Here's a close-up of the Grey Knight head removed in a fly-by decapitation, gore technique using strings of UHU glue with Tamiya Clear Red applied gingerly with a toothpick. :(

And one of the bleeding Khorne icon carved into his base:

Head on over to my gore-slicked workshop to see what I'll be doing next...

Thanks for looking,

Od.

Thanks for the compliments, brothers! ;)

How did you do the red of the wings/armor..its such a deep color.

I actually used a different method to my other models for this guy, skipping one stage and using a different final colour.

Basically, prime with Chaos Black, base with Mechrite Red or whatever the new equivalent is, wash with Agrax Earthshade, wash with Nuln Oil (I know, two washes seems a bit much but I love the super-dark recesses - it's like reverse highlighting!) then layer on watered-down Evil Sunz Scarlet until you get a nice, even, eye-catching red. Usually I drybrush Mechrite after the washes but for this model I decided to skip it. Because I'm lazy.

Thanks again,

Od.

IN THE NAME OF THE SKULL THRONE THIS THREAD WILL NOT DIE!!

Evening all! Sorry about the long hiatus, more about that soon. And Xenthor, sorry for not responding - it's a basic watery mix, 1:1 at its thickest. I usually go with one decent small brushload of ESS and two r three drops of water, then layer on as appropriate.

Anyway, fresh from the anvil and still a bit sticky, here's my completed HQ choice, Kal Turel:

gallery_50082_8337_709343.jpg

~ Kal Turel, the 3rd Hordemaster, the Doomed Knight ~

Kal Turel is a figure of conflicting reputations amongst the Doomseeker warband, alternately praised for his martial prowess and ridiculed for his refusal to abandon the concept of "honour". His methods of war and personal philosophy put him wildly at odds with Hordemaster Rahab Goretalon, a black-hearted murderer whose under-handed attempts to displace Turel have been thwarted time and time again by the 3rd Hordemaster's loyal warriors and the coiled fury of Daemon Prince Kalybos.

Turel's nobility and unflinching devotion to the Blood God, as well as his disciplined methods of war, have earned him the monicker, "the Doomed Knight", a title Turel has made his own by consistently challenging enemy champions to single combat and emerging triumphant. He is aided in his trials by a great, black blade whose fiery surface writhes with the screaming faces of those souls it has devoured.

+ + + + + + + +

Not a great shot but I finished him while at work and was a bit too keen to update my threads. biggrin.png more photos later.

Thanks for looking, brothers!

~ Bulledin Wrek, the 1st Hordemaster, Lord of the Chosen ~

The 1st Hordemaster is brutality given form. He takes the field clad in unyielding Terminator armour that has fused to his very flesh and leads the Chosen of the Doomseekers into battle like a rampaging rhinox, bellowing orders and passages from the Eight Books of Blood with maniacal fervour. He eschews the cowardice inherent in ranged weaponry, and instead wields a pair of axes blessed by the Doomhunter; one a potent symbol of the Blood God that smashes through armour with the force of a weapon twice its size, and the Daemon axe H'raq'ysh, a weapon infused with the unquenchable thirst of an enslaved Herald of Khorne. But Bulledin Wrek is far more than a simple engine of destruction. Originally a member of the Anointed, he has spent thousands of years directing traitor forces against every race the galaxy has to offer, and has the scars and knowledge to prove it.

Amongst the ranks of the Hordemasters there is none more feared, for not only is Wrek a terrifying warrior in his own right, his millennia of loyalty to Prince Kalybos have earned him much favour. At a word from Wrek, the full of force of the Doomseekers can be brought to bear, and woe betide any force that dares to stand against them.

* * * * * * * *

That's that for now, and if anyone's wondering, my next project is either going to be finishing those Havocs (which I really should get round to) or using a massive box of bits to create a model worthy of representing Prince Kalybos....

Anyway, thanks for looking!

Kalimaaaaa! Kalimaaaaa! KALIMAAAAA!!!!

These guys are pretty cool. I love the last guy's face as much as I like his face-eating demon weapon smile.png I'm not quite sold on his other weapon though. There's a line between menacingly big and comically big, and I think the ax may have crossed that line.

I dig the comic book style scarlet red with black hardlining, too. thumbsup.gif

Thanks for the compliment Firepower! I know what you mean about the big axe, but I feel like he pulls it off. biggrin.png

Righto, here's my first completed ETL vow, Graven, a Chaos Rhino with Dozerblade:

And just so you can read the little scrip:

All done for now! For my next ETL pledge, head over to the gore-stained workshop...

Thanks for looking!

I appreciate the compliments, brothers! It might not look like it, but I've put more work into this army than all of my other armies combined. You can really let rip with Chaos. biggrin.png

How did you do the brass?

Easy as pie: base with Tin Bitz > wash with Nuln Oil > wash with Agrax Earthshade > drybrush with Brass Scorpion > drybrush "damaged" areas with Runefang Steel.

...I'd love to see a full army photo. I bet they look amazing on the table!!

Hah, cheers! I have admittedly gotten a fair few compliments on my Doomseekers when I break them out in store. They are by no means a beardy force, I've thrown this lot together to improve my painting and converting skills and for fun games with honourable oponents ie ones that don't sit behind Aegis Defence Lines with their three poxy Riptides, or storm everything to death with triple Hellturkey lists.

Once I finish the final.... nine models (WHY CAN'T I FINISH THESE WRETCHED HAVOCS!?), I'll post a full army shot on a suitable board.

Thanks for the encouragement, guys. biggrin.png

Biiiiiiiig update time!

So, after a fairly sub-standard but really fun string of games at the September Throne of Skulls, I finally finished a bunch of models. But before I show you the pics, I would like to point out the few lessons I have learned since finishing these guys:

1. I can't paint eyes.

2. Drill your gun barrels.

3. MOULD LINES.

4. Think about using proper edge highlights.

5. I can't paint eyes.

So, here are the Specialists for my footsloggers:

And their fearless leaders, Surtur Soth:

"Vox is out. Ammunition at critical levels. Prime grenades, stow bolters and draw swords, brothers. It's time for prayer." ~ Surtur Soth at the trenches of Garro Bastion, the Raukovian Crusade

Nihilus Morbo:

"Morbo doesn't care for your losses, you pathetic piece of dreck, you hold that objective or Morbo will come down there and eat your eyes." ~ Nihilus Morbo, the Kainite Invasion

And Slaine of Cretacea:

"Slaine? He's a miserable bastard, but a devil with that axe. Guess all that guilt has got to go somewhere, eh?" ~ attr. Rahab Goretalon

And my newest unit (the painting is admittedly really poor), Doomrider Squad Maliel:

The squad's meltagunner, Blind Lurr:

Heklas Swift:

The Icon Bearer, Fjorolf Helbrass:

And their fearless leader, Maliel the Fallen:

"Aye, he slays for Khorne and that's good enough for the Red Scar, but you know what they say; never trust a Dark Angel." ~ Blind Lurr, Doomrider Squad Maliel

And finally, because I know you've all been biting your nails into frothing, bloody ruin out of suspense, my finished unit of Khorne's Teeth, led by Calder Farclaw:

gallery_50082_8337_163358.jpg

"The screams of the enemy, the wounded growls of broken engines, the incandescent light of a Loyalist aircraft going down in flames and the wet, meat-gobbet rain of a mortal who's just taken a frag missile to the chest... By the Skull Throne, I love my job!" ~ Calder Farclaw

Phew! Well, as usual, thanks for looking!

Od.

Thanks for looking, chaps!

That's a sweet looking autocannon. Is it a barrel swap? Somehow it doesn't look that simple.

It really is! I wanted to do a fancy autocannon that looked like it'd been ripped off a Guard weapon mount, but after ten minutes I went, "Nah, zog it," chopped the barrel of the autocannon and pinned it to a heavy bolter. With the running legs it looks better, like this guy would rather shoulder-check a Loyalist and bludgeon him to death rather than bother opening fire. :D

Oh my god. I usually think Khorne models look hokey but yours are amazing. Just as screwed up as they should be. The narrative elements are done just right without being dioramas. Bravo, my good man.

Thanks man, that's a good compliment coming from Loyalist filth! :D Just checked out your Eagle Eyes - lovely decals, and the jade paintwork is really convincing! I might be nicking that for my perpetually-in-progress Daemon Prince...

Od.

Thanks for the kind words, Od. Nick away. I wish I could give you a recipe but it's different every time. It's part of the charm of jade. It looks really different from one vein to another. I can tell you I start with a white base, use the ancient blue-green citidel wash to start. Paint on some veins in white and drybrush in white (the only time I ever dry brush anymore) and then glaze it with various shades of green and blue. The whole thing takes a long time but in person it almost looks like it's translucent. I think one time I used a white wash to make the recesses look lighter but after all the glazing you couldn't really tell so I don't think I did it again. Sooner or later I'll take some pics of my terminators and you can see some more examples. I should really write down and document the real recipe sooner or later.

Absolutely terrible.

In the more literal understanding of course- awesome, terrifying, formidable. That sort of terrible laugh.png

Just two things stand out at me. The blood on the front of the boss' bike, and on the one fellow's faceplate. It just looks like spilled red paint on that pale background, rather than sticky gore like you have on the weapons. That, and I'm not sure about the big brass idol on the back of that other bike.

Aside from that, deliciously terrible msn-wink.gif
