Star Phantoms *Valerius the Elder*

Recommended Posts

Any plans on adding little reliquary detail on the melee arm like on the front panels/assault cannon arm?  The city of death bits on Valerius are interesting, but I feel like they need stabilization somehow, like plasticard clamping on the top of the dreadnought chassis.  What are you planning to do on the leg greaves?

I am actually going to disagree with the other posters about filing off the studs on the skull helmet.  I think instead sculpting teeth or a rebreather, potentially making the skull more realistic is the way to go.

Thanks for the replies folks, I agree the power fist arm needs a little more detail. I don't really see the point in shaving the studs off the faceplate though, I like how they give the mask a more ancient feel, they could also possibly be explained away as rank markers like the studs Sgts/Vet Sgts wear in their foreheads.

As for the greaves the left one currently has two skulls added in the style of the Chapter badge not too sure what to add to the right side.

I do agree that the mask needs more. It will have cabling added similar to my WE Dread but in a more streamlined way, I tried altering one of the skull masks to start with but didn't like the result

Oh and I should add that there will be dead astartes littering the bases of some models and possibly trophies of worthy foes and they 'may' be of a silver hue or more likely a very weathered yellow colour.... ;)

why not a stained glass fixture with a cut to fit face/skull mask as a sort of reliquary to the ancient interred within the dreadnought? The face/skull mask could be painted in either a gilded metal or a marble like color to set it apart from the stained glass back splash?

Can I ask why you opted for the armored looking chest piece on the dread over the old statuary look? Your bit choice is already playing up the relic-ness of a dreadnought chassis, just trying to understand the choice you made with that decision.

Yellow you say.....?

What kits did you use to make up the parts for those sternguard? I'm guessing they must be from Dark Angels since I haven't seen their kits yet but is there any other in there?

Chaplain, It was the first bit I took from the sprue, I do have the other options so will definitely revisit that. I'm not sure where you're going with the stained glass though?

Lamenter, it's the other yellow guys don't worry. They wear black swim suits you might know them. ;) as for the Vets they're made from a mix of bits from the Ravenwing Command squad heads an backpacks, there's Grey Knights legs and berserker legs in there as well. Loadsa bits lol.

I would suggest lining up the head with the line of fire from the assault cannon. That would suggest to the viewer that he is concentrating on his target. Right now it looks like he's in CSM "Fire Frenzy" mode to me. ;)

Thanks guys, I'm liking the way Valerius is going. I also knocked a few members of Tactical squad 1 together for your perusal. I shamelessly stole the idea for the Heavy Bolter from the Heretic 1000Heathens. ;)

I honestly am brother. Real life had me beat for a few months there and now I have time I'm working on my Chaos at the moment. I've decided to switch Codex with these guys though and run them as vanilla marines. Ill hopefully have an update soon.
