Akaiyou
Saw news(rumors) of the price increase coming up on BoLS and decided it's time to start planning for a new army for the year at the current prices. Looking to start off with a solid (5th ed competitive) 1,000 or 1,250 pts army. What I need from anyone offering suggestions are the following: 1. Recommended Army List fitting into what i'm interested in (as mentioned above) 2. A list of what I'd need to buy to create said army list brand new off the shelf. [optional] 3. Ideas & Tactics to use with suggested army. This will help me to gauge the list not only from a play standpoint but also financially. I definitely want a competitive base to start off from, as then I can get accustumed to playing to the army's strengths and build upon them later on with my own choosing/flavoring of units. I thank everyone in advanced. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/252579-help-needed-starting-a-new-army/ Share on other sites
Jonny Wolf
Go to the list section on the Space Wolves Forum page. You'll see many a competitive list there (thanks to the Space Wolves Codex having so many viable options). 1,250 Points Space Wolf Lord Rune Priest Wolf Priest 2x Box Grey Hunter 2x Box Terminator (This will let you build a lord/priest in Termie Armor also) A Rhino or two. That's a good starter set IMO. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/252579-help-needed-starting-a-new-army/#findComment-3064244 Share on other sites
Toasterfree
do you like shooty, assault or combined arms? thats really the best place to start. great thing is, wolves are awesome at all three of those Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/252579-help-needed-starting-a-new-army/#findComment-3064248 Share on other sites
Akaiyou
I'd like to run either assault oriented Wolves or Combined. Just feels wrong to play the wolves as a shooty centered force. Also thank you Jonny Wolf you are the first across a couple forums that actually listed what 'boxes' id need to buy to build the list..but mmm u forgot the actual list buddy lol Space Wolves army has always confused the hell out of me so thats why i asked for an actual list along with what stuff i need to buy to create it because I cant seem to wrap my head around how they work. Arez
for a starting force you could get a battleforce and box or 2 of wolf guard and magnetize their arms. Toasterfree
i sent you a list that i did up. you need to balance out shooting with assault and i think that list does it real nice. do something like that, and you should be good to go Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/252579-help-needed-starting-a-new-army/#findComment-3064494 Share on other sites
Forté
You've made one major error with your request. Asking for those here in the Fang to write you a list. The thing with Space Wolves is unlike a lot of army's, there isn't one standard way to play them. You'll see razorspam, long Fang ML spam, hunter spam, Loganwing and a few other net list style armies. And then you get people like Littlbitz and DV8 who completely go against those and run bikes and full mech lists. What I'm trying to say is you need to find what you like to use. Do you want some fun or just your bog standard 'this wins on mathammer' force. The list part of the forum is the best place to get ideas. As for models to start with. You can't go wrong with getting a SW and a Codex Marine Battleforce. The bits mix well and will give you a nice variety of parts to start with. Then grow from there. Akaiyou
Thats no error I do expect a high variety and from there i would figure out which appeals more to me in price to build and competitiveness. And yeah I want to go the mathhammer route I want competitiveness as my base after I get my first 1,000 or 1,250 pts of WIN i can then dabble in adding the 'just for fun' units later since I know i have a strong base to 'carry' them through. So any more suggestions fellas? So far no one has actually posted up a 1,000 to 1,250 list only a list of what box sets to buy lol Help? Stormbrow II
Don't waste your money on Rhinos: get Razors as all you'll have to do to change from one to another is blutack or magnetise the top hatch of the tank and you won't kick yourself for not buying the turret weapon for half-nothing rather than ordering them seperately. Get a SW Battleforce. With that you can build a Scout squad, 2 units of 8 Grey Hunters, 3 Wolf Guard with Fists (convert up combi-Meltas) and a Rune Priest. 2 Razor boxes and a Devastator box gives you a rounded force especially as you can use the Hunter Killer missiles to convert up more Missile Launchers for the Long Fangs and the Razors/Rhinos interchangeably.
