I am crazy. Starting an Unforgiven from Scratch

Hey folks.

I've been playing around with these miniatures for 4 years, and I've gone back and fourth from chapter to chapter, until I discovered the coolness of the DA. Now, that being said, I've also dabbled in various colour schemes (some posted, some not posted). For some reason, I could never find a colour scheme that I liked, blue, green, red etc. But I discovered the really neat Angels of Vengeance decal sheet GW released last month. I researched the colours of this chapter and experimented with possible colours. I still plan to call them the Redeemers, and put a small "R" on the skull on these decals. I had a hard time finding the decals but eventually got them on ebay.

So the next decision was what to do with my painted minis. Was I to strip them again, try to sell them, or just give em away. I ended up doing the latter. I friend of mine who is interested in 40k was the recipeint of my old army. Whether he plays, paints or does nothing with them is up to him. I decided it was time for a fresh start.

So I now have a Dev Squad box, Tactical Squad box and various parts of 5 Terminators. I also have 20 robed torsos and 3 primed land speeders. No bikes, no tanks or transports.

My goal is to build a battle company, slowly but surely. I only play about 6-8 games a year, so there's no rush.

What I need the masses to help me do is decide which of these schemes to use: all similar with slight changes.

I know Angels of Vengeance are all black, but to me thats just boring. I like the dark grey to go with the black. The weapons will be silver with red cases. In theory, it will look sharp. Just can't decide on Bone or White for the chest eagle, or between green and red for the eyes.

I have a favourite picked, I just want to hear what you all think.

Thanks eveyone. Will post sample model soon.

My two cents: while not as extreme as my bone feet w/black greaves I did on my Terminators, I would caution you away from anything with the feet a different color from the greaves. It can end up looking silly, as if the Marines were wearing sneakers, as was told to me several times. I would suggest that if you want the feet a different color, also change the greaves, otherwise just keep the feet that same color as the rest of the legs.

I would personally go with the black helm, arms and backpack (and make the whole thing black) with the dark grey torso and legs, and the bone Aquila.

Either green or red eye lenses would work, but green might be neat because it's rarely done and gives a tie in back to the DA.

I respectfully dissagree with this: I am painting a grey army and my guys have lighter grey feet than the greaves and it looks cool :P

I guess I should have actually said "feet different from the rest of the entire leg". Your feet and upper legs are the same color, only the greaves are actually different. It looks fine from here, but all black legs going into bone feet is jarring.

Lovin' the grey/black theme with bone white chest eagle (lower left) ;).

I'll reserve judgement on the 'sneakers' issue until I see a demo model... no offence, but J!MM!L!C!OUS's example doesn't completely sell the idea to me but maybe darker sneakers might be ok.

Here's the test model. not 100% done but you'll see the idea I have. I ditched the black sneakers for all grey legs.

I tried it with green eyes, and it looked weird. So I went with red. The angle on the front picture doesn't show the grey very well, but the behind picture does.

Let me know. Multi-Melta dude is next.

My opinion:  I like it!

I'm not entirely sold on the upper grey vent cowling on the backpack, but it looks very nice. You are definitely Unforgiven too. :D

Are you using the new color line? Would you mind letting us know what colors you did use, in case people are looking for examples?

Hello Bryan.

Here's a few more pics in natural light. The grey on top of the backpack is actually silver... the lighting really doesn't show it.

The colours I've used are from the new range except for the black and bone. I bought about 5 bottle of Chaos Black and 3 Bottle of Bleached Bone before the changeover:

Dark Grey: Mechanicus Standard Grey. Washed in Nulin Oil.

Grey Highlight: Dawnstone

Lighter Grey Highlights: Fortress Grey (have 2 bottles left)

Reds: Mephiston Red, washed in Reikland Fleshshade, Highlighted with Evil Sunz Scarlet

Metallics: Leadbelcher highlighted with Runefang Steel, then Necron Compund.

Bleach Bone washed in Seraphim Sepia, highlighted with Terminatus Stone.

May end up painting the backpack vents black in the end. The silver is nice, just breaks the monotony of the black on black, etc.
