Growler67
Good work. I think your pelt technique is better then mine, could you tell how you make yours? After placing the GS and getting it to the right thickness, I use the tip of an older hobby knife to "comb" the fur into the GS. Using short stroke and starting from the area closest to the base or extramities, then working my way up or in as the case may be. If you want a finer and more refined fur, use a very sharp or new knife. Keep a little water nearby so you can dip the tip of the knife in periodically. With your knife strokes, you can "lay the grain" of the fur to make it "flow" the way you want it and achieve a more refined look. If you wish you can combine the techniques, finer around certain areas and coarser in others....have a look at a dog or wolf, the fur is never a uniform thickness or grain. Sometimes if the effect is desired, "flicking" the knife at the edges can give a wonderful look of "fringes" like at the base of capes/cloaks or in the case of sleves, the trailing edges. Pulling the knife tip through the stroke will leave "strands" of fur to give you a deeper texture in the fur. Let it set like that and paint away......fur is never "nicely groomed" as represented in the models. My "quick" jobs look like those pictured. If I take my time I am usually more happy with the results. ironking
Good work. I think your pelt technique is better then mine, could you tell how you make yours? Thanks Token. Step 1: plan it, draw it Step 2: create the frame - I used a cloak and some wire to stiffen and create a working surface Step 3: just do the shape first (incl. the claws), once that is cured, then do the fur Step 4: fur - work from the outside in, also think about where the fur is growing from, ie. work from the outside inwards in a slightly triangular pattern (wide part of the triangle on the outside edge - see the fur pattern diagram below) Step 5: don't worry about messing up, you can pull of the green stuff, re-roll it and start over http://www.blankds.com/40kimg/pelt.jpg Hope that helps. Oh just saw Growlers tips - pretty good advice, you can see that on the tail and the ears / back of the head I went with finer fur, while the body and legs are a bit rougher Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/252860-scouting-the-way/page/2/#findComment-3102062 Share on other sites
