Rune_Priest_Rhapsody
I am looking through the codex, and what do I see. Wolf Guard Battle Leader can take o Thunderwolf. No earth-shattering news there, right?? I look throught his upgrades and again, no big suprises. Until I get to the Saga's he can take, such as Saga of the Hunter. Saga of the Hunter say's infantry only, but when you look on page 85 under his entry it say cannot be taken by PA models on bike or with a jumper. It says nothing about a huge, sneaky (possibly) wolf mount!! Has this been FAQ'ed?? If this is a legal set up, how would you kit him out for stealthy tank hunting?? Power Fist, Storm Shield, Runic Armor, and two wolf friends (hugs and kisses)?? <--- the two wolves names, of course!! End of Line DAMN YOU RAW, DAMN YOU TO HELL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! please 'delete/close/feel free to mock me about' this thread Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/252887-wgbl-on-a-thunderwolf/ Share on other sites
Mimir
I thought about it too, but SotH rule is quite clear - infantry only. I would say that page 85 restriction is simply missing Thunderwolf mount, not the first mistake in a GW codex ;) I miss the thought, however. Who wouldn't like to outflank something like that behind the enemy? ;) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/252887-wgbl-on-a-thunderwolf/#findComment-3068910 Share on other sites

Grimtooth
It is easier if you think of a WGBL on a TWM as CAVALRY, because that is the unit type when he is mounted on said TWM. Once you start thinking that way, you realize SOTH does not list the unit type Cavalry as one of the types able to use it. Forté
Sorry but did I read mock you...as if we would ever mock you over anything. Let alone not realising a Twolf is cavalry. Surely anyone would make that mistake. I mean, Fluffy loves to walk on two legs. Rune_Priest_Rhapsody
So did it take you the entire two and a half days since I posted this thread to come up with that one Forte?? ;) I got all excited when I thought about the possibilities of doing this, and I overlooked the whole 'have thunderwolf, will travel' thing... So that everybody is clear here (including me), I understand that I cannot do this and the reasons why. Rayray
If you could take a WGBL on TW mount and have saga of the hunter, the SW codex would simply be too BAMF for the rest of the 40k universe. Our characters are already good at slappin hoes as it is. :) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/252887-wgbl-on-a-thunderwolf/#findComment-3070243 Share on other sites
Rune_Priest_Rhapsody
Back of the hand slappin'!! The fact that I had never seen the tactic used or mentioned mixed with the whole idea that if something seems too good to be true it is, made me pull my head out of my ass... WG Vrox
I made the same connection when the codex came out and posted something much like, " Cool, what could be better than an outflanking Thunderwolf riding HQ". But yeah when the the HQ is riding a Thunderwolf his unit type changes to cavalry and thus is no longer considered infantry unit, this is well stated under the wargear section for Thunderwolf Mounts. I just read something I forgot though and that is a TW Cavalry unit allow fen wolf packs to re-roll failed moral checks if within 12 inches. Vrox. Mimir
I'm not a fan of putting WGBL on a Thunderwolf anyway. He'll be a major target and having 1 less wound is not worth the point. I'm planning to try outflanking WGBL with a scout squad, however. I'm planning to try outflanking WGBL with a scout squad, however. I prefer the Wolf Priest- he isn't individually quite as powerful, but adds more to the whole combined unit with the right Preferred Enemy selection. With Power Weapon and Inv Save already included, he is a good value.
