Would you like our Wolves to get the Stormtalon?

The flyers release is just around the corner, and it seems that Stormtalon will be for vanilla SM only. But I really like the model and the philosophy behind it. I still hope that we'll get it too, even if it cannot escort the Drop Pods ;) It would be nice to have one showing up with a squad of scouts...

What do you think about it? How well would it mix with SW?

Not sure it would to be honest, the concpet doesn't even fit with codex astartes, let alone Wolves.

There is no real justification for air support with Astartes as they are mission specific, get in and do the job troops and anyting hey can't deal with a Thunderhawk they call in the Navy for. The Storm raven was barely justifiable as a transport but a gunship? That's what they have the landspeeder for.

Sorry to say I do not like the model.

The rules don't really do it for me either (A more expensive speeder), I don't see a specific role that will be fulfilled by it to make it worth taking.

Also I don't think it's very wolfy (But that's just my opinion).

as I believe BC Kezef has seen in the original thread -Dark Angels Sub Forum- my view is that akin to Devourer, no real reason for it, it doesn't suit the style of space marines as a whole, let alone space wolves, and the model its self is dire!

its not really the way of russ but, looking @ the progress of all the flyers.

the wolves a little behind now.

they lack speed no DS, no flying transport, ans no gunship

looking at the rulle's.

13"movement and still may fire. if that is not only for the storm talon

than the wolves are almost forced to take droppods

mec of on foot is to slow with a flyer or 2 taken potschots every turn.

mabe the stormeagle can bring some change to that.

or some other flying transport. thunderhawk ;)

if we need it, i dont know it depends on how the new rulebook looks at shooting and damage table.

still hoping on a codex legal flyer dough.

My apologies, brothers, if this has been posted somewhere already, but are there any rules for this atrocity?

I agree with BC Kezef - I thought that's what we have land speeders for...?

The rules should be in the White Dwarf that hits stores tomorrow I think.

My thought exactly, opponent will have to fire something more powerful then bolters to silence it. It is also faster, able to move 36'' flat out, move 12'' and fire all of it's weapons. 155 pts for version with TL Assault Cannon and missiles. It's not that great, but not bad either. I really hope we'll get a flyer of our own, I'm a fan of the concept.

Those of you that know me at all, already know that I am strongly in favor of flyers for Marines (air and space capable vehicles all the way). So, I appreciate all of the new Storm-series vehicles (Raven, Eagle, and also now, Talon); even if the models, rules, and weapons might not be perfect. I still think the theme is a major step in the right direction.

I'd rather have the option, then decide that I don't need it, than not have the option at all.

I admit that whilst I thoroughly dislike the new Talon model - I do like the 'flyers' direction GW is going in, not so sure about calling everything Storm this and Storm that - seems to repetetive for my liking, after we the Wolves have Wolf this, that and the other already - maybe if they had some slightly more original names, then I could get more into the feel of it all.

I do feel that ALL space marines no-matter their origin, taste for the codex astartes or how divergent they may be; should have access to the various flyers - after all which Chapter Master/Grand Master/High Marshall/High King etc. etc. would pass up on a piece of kit that could make their forces better at what they do - I can understand some things, such as nobody else getting most of the GK armoury, or BA getting the Lucifer engines those are very specific and where the BAs are concerned they haven't even given it to the Adeptus Mechanicus to be processed.

Would be nice to have a flyer in the codex, other than a T/hawk in Apoc, but please....that thing is ugly. As if the Storm Chicken wasn't bad enough, they now give us the Storm chicken nugget.

And for those that bring up the "Russ intended us to fight with our feet on the ground" perspective, why do we love the thunderhawk?

Yeah, kind of hard to always fight "with feet on the ground" for a military force that patrols the Galaxy in a space-based fleet of spaceships.

This!!!

Out of the flyers on release, the mini brick has to be the worst.

We love the Thunderhawk because it takes us to the places where we can fight with our feet on the ground...?

I think there's something a bit odd about the "resticted access from" about things like this, I can understand chapter specific vehicles, but "everybody apart from" ones don't make sense to me. That said, I'd like to see a SW specific variant, if we can't have the bog-standard one.

I can't stand that 3rd ed. rulebook fluff.

As for the Stormtalon, I think it looks fine, I think it would be fine in a SW army(fluff or play wise), but I'm not sad we are not getting it. We have plenty of toys.

I would like to have the option. I really like the idea of an escort. It is the type of rule I want to see more of in this game. It allows more tactics. If we dont get this unit option it would be brilliant if it was implemented in 6th ed to allow units to escort other units or come from reserve in a bundle. Maybe using strategy points or whatever system has been rumored.

Whether or not I would use one is another question. I dont keep a lot of units in reserve, and I dont think wolf scouts should be allowed to be escorted. Not their style.

I REALLY like the idea that GW will introduce stuff like this in White Dwarf again. It keeps the game fresh for gamers and it is good from a business standpoint. They can introduce new models without a new codex, which equals more profit. And sales for WD would go up presumably. I would just ask them to make sure units introduced this way have been playtested and balanced. Units can always be amended in later White Dwarf mags if need be.

Edit: proofread corrected grammar

i'm with brother captain on this one, a gunship just doesn't fit with the astartes of 40k since these things got forbidden for them after the heresy. sure our transports may pack a lot of fire power but a dedicated gunship? that's outright going against the high lords of terra's wishes and is a thing even grimnar would hesitate about!

I dont buy into the chapter specific anything on the vehicles or weapon configuration.........for example the Baal predator..............we have a Predator.......gee how dificult would it be to change the main gun from a type of cannon to assault cannons......we have assault cannons already

personally i only play Apocalypse.........I havce Storm Ravens and will be getting me some Talons
