New Grey Knight Player/Collector

Hi,

I've just ordered some Grey Knights over the net and I am waiting for them to arrive. I also have 7 old Grey Knight models I can use to add to the army list, but I was looking for some advice on loadouts & equipment.

I ordered:

Draigo

2 boxes of Paladins

1 box of Grey Knights

Yes I know that 6th Ed is rumoured to stop wound allocation cheese, but this is a good and cheap way to start an army. Draigo and the Paladins alone should take up about 1000pts. Also I am already a Blood Angels player with a large collection so I'm planning on using the land raiders I have and the Stormraven to bulk up to 2000pts and over.

The old models I have are

1 Brotherhood Champion

2 Psycannon Grey Knights

1 Incinerator Grey Knight

3 Halbard Grey Knights

So in essence I am looking for advice on how I should equip these guys when I get them through the post.

Thanks in advance for any help.

First, welcome to the forums!

Lets see... given what you have and what is arriving, I have a half-baked crazy-like-a-fox idea for you. My Codex is at work at the moment so I can't give you exact point values, but how about:

Draigo

Brotherhood Champion

2 units of 5 Paladins with various weaponry, psycannons, etc (varied unit, halberds are nice, include a hammer, psycannons rock. Psybolts if you wanna, I always do)

1 6 man unit of Purifiers with 2 psycannons, 3 halberds, 1 hammer, psybolt ammo

Razorback w/ assault cannon, psybolt ammo

1 5 man unit of Purifiers with 2 incinerators (the Grey Knights box has bits for 1 Incinerator, 2 Psycannons and 1 Psylincer. The Psylincer is garbage, psycannons rock, incierators are nice if you like templates. You could substitute 2 psycannons here if you prefer.), 2 halberds, 1 hammer, psybolt ammo (note: technically I'm lying to you as you'd have to find a second hammer bit somewhere. You can substitute all sorts of other weapons if you'd like.)

Razorback w/ assault cannon, psybolt ammo

Storm Raven w/ assault cannon, typhoon launcher (or multi-melta to taste), psybolt ammo (makes the assault cannon burly), hurricane bolters if you really wanna hurt things.

Land Raider (I'd do standard w/ lascannons)

instructions:

attach the Brotherhood Champion to the 5 man Purifier unit, attach Draigo to a Paladin squad. Transport Draigo and one Paladin unit in the Storm Raven, transport the other Paladin unit in a Land Raider.

You can use Draigo to make the Purifiers scoring if need be, and you have a small, elite, hard hitting force. Depending on models you can substitute other transport for the Purifiers, the units of 6 were just nice numbers given the number of models you have. I personally like psybolts, but that's something you can edit depending on how you feel.

Hello there.

First things first. You will some how need to find an additional 2 psycannons, as the grey knight terminator box set only comes with 1 of each special weapon, and paladins can have 2 specials per 5 models (and psycannon's are awesome).

I usually equip mine for maximum would allocation as cheaply as possible.

halberd

mc halberd

sword

psycannon halberd

psycannon hammer

I have never used psybolts, a brotherhood banner or an apothecary with my paladins, and they have generally done fine (though I use only paladins, so your mileage may vary).

There are many options now though...

If you keep the paladins as a 10man squad, you can benefit better from grand strategy and combat squad them when you need, however you will then need a second troop choice. Personally if running paladins I feel that having power armoured models gives your enemy something to shoot their ap3 weaponry at, but with cover saves being plentiful this might not be an issue, it all depends on where you play.

10 PAGK (power armoured grey knights) with 2 psycannons, 1-2 hammers and psybolts is a solid choice, that is better at shooting then melee, but can still mess up a few things in close combat too. with or without a rhino.

Or you can have the 2 5 man paladins as your troops and go for purifiers, or a squad of interceptors too, or a purgation squad (i still want to try out a squad with 4 incinerators...burn baby burn!). In a pure draigowing I stay away from landraider's or storm ravens, as they cost as much as a squad, but that is with my playing style, and I quite like footslogging :)

I wish I could help more but I have zero experience of playing with PAGK (of any flavor), only experience of killing them (they die like normal marines, but cost more).
