Astral Claws Assault Sergeant

Recommended Posts

Man it's good to be back here again... I know it's been a while but I've finally gotten sorted. I'm back for good this time. In time honoured fashion, I thought I'd start posting in the WIP forums again with a random project that may or may not get finished this side of the new millenium....

So without further apologetic ramblings here's something I'm working on just now, he's still in the intial stages of painting but enough's there to see where I'm going (hopefully) the silver will be buffed up a little bit and the gold will too, the blue's almost done though:

Despite the fact that I don't plan on painting an army of Astral Claws, this guy could be considered a test paint for the pilot of flyer because the Aerial Assault stuff has inspired me to dig out a project I started last year and actually finish it, well maybe :)

Anyway, C&C is as it has always been, more than welcome and I'll hopefully catch up with a few people properly as soon as possible :D

cheers

James

Hey, Pig! You're still alive, lol! Good to see you man, it's been a while. He's looking good so far, though I feel the blue should be darkened a touch. Then again, it may be the light / camera. I'll be looking forward to seeing this fella finished!

Welcome back Pig - it's good to see your talents on here again!

There is so much detail on the model to paint but you've made a great start. Can I ask is the bolt pistol a conversion?

Thanks for your comments guys :P.

@ lestat: yup, the bolt pistol was one of those flashes of inspiration that come when you leave bits lying in a bag together... I figured it made sense for an assault marine to have plenty of ammo to keep his foes heads` down while closing to chainsword range :).

@Rhetoricus: I've no current plans to do a full claws force but i do plan on painting some airborne units in their colours...

Cheers

Welcome back James. As usual you always reappear with something excellent looking to accompany your apology. It will be good to have you around more steadily as well. Your work always inspires me to break my stuff back out and get something done.

hey guys,

thanks for all the welcome backs :). I've done some more work on this mini over the last few days:

There's a couple of bits and pieces left to finish up, not least the 'fuel' tanks on the back of the jump pack. Anyone got any thoughts on what colour to go for? The only thing I can think of is bronze/gold but I don't want to over do it with the gold. I also need to decide whether he's pre- or post Babab Schism so I can trim out the decals... I'm swinging towards pre-schism but one of the projects I'm lining up will definitely have to be post so I can justify it :jaw:.

@ Wicced: Cash is a little tight just now, but I'll see what I can do ;).

@ Slyen: cheers mate, it's very good to be back :).

@ DeathKnight2000: Thank you, by all means please do borrow the bolt pistol. As I briefly mentioned in my first post it was a case of accidental inspiration that lead to the Bolt Pistol. I'd cut the magazine off of the donor bolter ages ago (I can't even remember why now :D) and it was in a bag with the bolt pistols... That lead me to think that for Assault Marines, being able to deliver more rounds before needing to reload might be kinda beneficial...

@ mikhail: glad to be able to inspire you buddy. I'll drop you a PM soon so we can catch up properly, it's been too long :).

@ Battle-Brother Ludovic: Thanks, glad you like him. He was thrown together in a bit of a hurry from bits I had lying around from other aborted projects, I was a little worried about his composition to be honest :D.

@ Master Chaplain Astador: Alive, kicking and still painting! :D

Next update should hopefully be in the Hall of Honour....

cheers

Thanks Keith, actually I'm using a combination of Vallejo and 'old' Citadel Colours at the moment. I've yet to try the new Citadel range out (I'd love to but my wallet won't let me) aside from one of the textured paints. I'm seriously considering switching over to Vallejo anyway as they are cheaper than Citadel plus they are matchable to the Citadel colours I know and love (I actually look at a lot of things now and think wow, that carpet's Scab Red, that car's layered up from Boltgun Metal through Chainmail to Mithril Silver...) I love the idea of the complimentary ranges with in the Citadel 'system' but I think it was just really poorly timed by GW.

cheers

Have you looked at the Army Painter range? The coloured primers have a 100% colour match with the dropper bottles and are prety good paints too.
