The Unremembered Empire

Pretty sure he's said his next HH book is a sequel to Know No Fear.

As exciting as that is, more intrigued by his comments in the blog that he's working on a new project for BL that's much bigger than a HH novel, or his new Eisenhorn vs Ravenor trilogy. Really not sure what that could be...

I would hazard a guess to why Ultramar is now 8 systems instead of 100 or so it was during the Great Crusade; after the breaking up of the legions, Guiliman also broke up Ultramar.

The big secret is non HH related? Hmm, perhaps an advancement in the time line?

NOTHING is bigger than his new Eisenhorn vs Ravenor trilogy. That im sorry to say is the only thing im looking forward to reading from him in the coming future.

With that said, maybe its about the squats :)

Exploring the Webway has been done - Ian Watson's old Inquisition War trilogy and Rob Sander's Inquisitor Cvezak book, plus Gav Thorpe Path of the Eldar books. More to do there, but for that reason, don't think it would qualify as such a big surprise.

Maybe launching a new series in a new time period - either the Scouring, or (and this would be huge, though as unlikely as a book on the lost legions) a new series on The Time of Ending, eg. what happens next. Doubt that's it however.

Maybe GW are going to really throw us a curve-ball and write something pre-current 30k-40k universe? Something about when humanity first made an empire across the stars and could do stuff like invent technology and what not.

There's a lot of gaps to fill in after all! Maybe with the emperor showing up at key moments to do a bit of behind the scenes guiding/smithing. Plenty of room for lots of battle-porn but in a new, yet somewhat familiar setting - humanity's first battle with Orks for e.g.! Or with races hinted at elsewhere but wiped out by the Great Crusade. Like Tiberium, the possibilities are limitless!

Also, if they did go this route I'd like them to clear up the whole thing about how humanity created it's first empire across the galaxy when by all accounts the Eldar, at the peak of their civilisation, ruled the galaxy. Always seemed like a bit of a contradiction to me. Can't imagine the Eldar letting smelly primates just take over all their stuff. "Present day" Eldar don't like it to happen and I imagine they were even more arrogant when they had the run of the place.

If they don't go backward then maybe, just maybe, they'll go forwards? I'd consider this the less likely of the two as GW seem to like having the "present" in a two minutes to midnight kind of setting and edge it along slowly.

Whatever it is, damn and bless Dan Abnett for letting us know there's something big to look forward to but not furninshing us with even a crytic hint!

But it's probably totally about the two lost legions

Edit - obligatory reference to Eldar being

Maybe launching a new series in a new time period

Ha ha snap on the different time period idea! Even posted our comments at the exact same minute

Personally I'd be very disappointed if something Dan hyped up as much as he has this ultra secret project turned out to be something as boring as the webway and about a faction as unlikeable as the Eldar.

If the project is bigger than the HH series, the single most important event in the universe, we are unlikely to guess what it is. Im sure it might be 40K related, but it probably will be some new type of media we havn't seen or something.

Well he did say it was for BL, but not what it was. Maybe a book on the Emperor or something. Could even be WHF related, really.

I wonder what that big secret is. Is it something related to the lost legions?

It's not about the Lost Legions. It's never about the Lost Legions. It never will be about the Lost Legions, unless there are massive shake-ups at GW.

And it's not lupus, either. It's never lupus. :D

I lol'd

I've just thought of something that could be considered bigger than the HH (amaze07 has a similar idea) - Moving on the Canon storyline. Letting the Emperor die, letting the Golden Throne actually fail and letting things play out in a book by one of the people I think could pull it off (out of two): Dan Abnett.
