Brother Evar
So, I think the shades are a bit thick to use to give lighter minitures definition when you use non-gw paint. I am finding the vallejo paint to be "soft", so it seems the shade is being absorbed a bit before it runs into the recesses. Granted, I can just blackline with the ink with a smaller brush, but that takes forever. I would like to thin the Nuln oill to the point where it will not sit on flat area's, but just drip stright down and sit in the recesses, if I just wash it over the whole figure. Do I thin with water or use a drop of dishwashing liquid and to what ratio's? nurglespuss
You can thin with water, but I would practice on painted sprue (a light shade would be 1:8 shade:water). However, this can streak and separate from what I've seen, you get better results with Klear floor polish. As the liquid is rather viscous already, washing up liquid might not help you here. Lorenzen
pretty much what he said, klear (now under the pledge brand name, not sure where my bottle of it is) will help it run into the recesses, it will make it shiny, but thats what satin coat varnish is for. Jacinda
I use Matte Medium you can pick up at any artist store for thinning and Flow Control for making washes and just to give the paint the correct feel for me. AdeptusDavidus
You can also use Future (Klear, Pledge With Future Shine, whatever they call it now) to put down a gloss layer between your paint and your washes to help discourage tide marks and help the washes cling to the recesses.
