Nice basing! How did you do that?

Pretty easy actually, some mixed slate from the GW basing kit, painted brown, a black wash, few drybrushes of lighter browns and a final drybrush of bleached bone for the lighter shade, then just a couple of sprinklings of scorched grass :P

As promised a better shot of my Test scout. Not entirely happy with it atm, after years of painting Chaos models i have a bad habit of painting dark and dirty especially on metallics. Also need to get my yellow thinner with better highlights. Pretty happy with the freehand chapter symbol (atleast the shape), think i'll need to dig out some good yellow tutorials.....

Looking good Cornelias.

The scout looks great. Love the classic hair do on him. Its a tough life being a scout you get picked to join the astartes, they pump you full of steroids then send you right into the womb of a Tyranid Hiveship. Cheers Boss!

The Classic scheme looks superb on the model.

I like your Shrike model too and he does look more Dynamic with your new alterations.

Keep up the good work -_-

Love the freehand work on the scout! i've been puzzling out how to do the shoulder pads on mine, currently wrestling with decals. Your bases are excellent too.

Like the pose on the Shrike too.

The Freehand was actually fairly easy once i planned it out i'll throw together a tutorial later tonight, i usually struggle with freehand myself and always done my best to avoid it in the past by using decals or in the case of my Black Legion, proper shoulder pads from GW.

Looking forward to more updates from your own SOTE!

As promised here is a small tutorial ( wonder if it's worth writing an actual guide for the tutorial section) on how to freehand the Scythes of the Emperor Chapter badge....

The pad is painted black and shaded/highlighted normally, for the chapter badge a base coat of ceramite white, then filled in using a first layer of yriel yellow, second layer of flashgitz yellow and a final highlight of praxeti white.

STEP 1: Start by painting a crescent moon shape as shown below.

STEP 2: Next paint two straight line in a cross, the key to getting them even is making sure the triangle at the top section has equal angles and both lines are straight.

STEP 3: Paint 2 triangle sections and a black strip exactly as i have highlighted below and it should end up looking like the fourth frame in my example.

STEP 4: Finally add a couple of small curved sections at the bottom of your shafts and bob's your uncle!

hope that helps.
